Colin Bell RIP - Ian Cheeseman interview with Jon Bell (P142)

So sad.
This is the 'wallpaper' picture on my tablet..ive just heard about his passing and turned on my tablet to see his face looking up at me...then i see your post.

Gutted.

For a player ive never seen play ive studied his career and listened to so mamy older Blues and other football fans up and down the country who remember how good a player he was.

The fact that he was captain of Bury Fc as a teenager ,tells you a lot about his calm determined steely character.

My favourite ever city goal is the brilliant full volley at stamford bridge ,early 70s ,which left england international keeper Peter 'the Cat' Bonetti clutching at thin air ,such was the ferocity and technical brilliance of the shot....class.

Over the years ,watching old footage of City ,it seemed as tho he scored in every single u tube video, left foot ,right foot, headers.not to mention the lung bursting runs from midfield to start or finish attacks

48 caps for England..Should have been many more had it not been for......

His performance at Wembley when England trounced Scotland 5-1 in a Home international fixture mid 70s ,when Bell and Gerry francis formed a powerful and skilful midfield partnership ,with Bell scoring a cracking goal only makes you think what could have been if not for injury...prob near 100 caps... a lot more than 48 apps/ 12 goals

Bells performance at The boleyn ground early 70s when City smashed West ham 4nil was outstanding ..he led england captain Bobby moore a merry dance and was absolute class on a quagmire of a pitch.Moore was asked by Ron greenwood to mark Bell.....with disastrous consequences. .

Perhaps the footage which sums up Bell best of all tho...is the old grainy black and white film of Citys title win at St James park Newcastle 1968. Big match, lots of nerves on and off the pitch...Colin Bell, majestic ,class determined...and a winner.

RIP ..

Just found out. Got tears in my eyes. R.I.P King Colin.

Thankful I saw you play. As a young lad on the Kippax I'll always remember when you waltzed round Stepney and slotted the ball into the net to make it 2-2 against the enemy (3-3 it finished). Such elegance.

Weeeeeeeeeeeee'llllllll drink a drink a drink ............

I am too young to have seen him play but I wish I had done.

If you talk to anyone who knows football they all say The King was one of the best players they've ever seen. Everyone regardless of who they support tells me this.

RIP The King.

For those who never saw him play, he was KdB on steroids, his passing was sublime,he was supremely skilled, he was brilliant in the air, he could tackle, he could finish, he could run all day and he was a humble man, who loved our club.

In our pantheon of greats some may come close, but none will ever surpass the King of the Kippax.

His comeback game still sends shivers down my spine, i have never heard a ground as loud in my life as the Kippax was that day.

RIP The King, you were my hero, I loved you more than any City player i have ever seen or likely to see, he was everything I wanted to be as a kid, i even worse my shirt like him, insisted i had the 8 shirt at school.

I am heartbroken, your hero's are not meant to die.
Cheers russ. Nice words for us (slightly) younger lads who never had the pleasure.
Hope youre well my friend

Thought I was holding it together I poured a large Bourbon for me my son and my wife to toast the King only to fall apart and start blubbering, I couldn't get the words out my son held me tight inconsolable on his shoulder, I got there in the end and raised a drink to Colin the King. I'm still a bit of a mess now. Fucking gutted.

RIP King Colin. Never had the fortune to see him play, but his level of adulation and respect earnt is evident in every post or article about him. RIP to a City legend
