I just don’t buy into the notion that it is all Trumps fault. He is a wrecking ball and his approach is chaotic and dangerous but is that not what America voted for? 66 million and now 75 million people? Congress is divided on how to govern.
The media’s portrayal of Trump is the main reason for the hatred IMO. If it was not for his ineptitude response to Covid he would be heading towards a second term.
Anyway it is all opinions and I respect those who do not agree. This thread is informative and I enjoy the debate.

Certainly reminds me of the Munich Beer Hall Putsch in ‘23, coupled with his push for constitutional power, in the form of a dictatorship in ‘33-‘34.
I don’t think we’ve seen anything like that since then, in Western Europe/North America, until now.
Pretty terrifying and I just hope the American political structure and its foundations hold firm.
The Founding Fathers will be turning in their graves at this.

It is not the media , that is his line , like most of the posters in this thread we watched all of the covid briefings he gave , that was carnage and then watched as they turned into election rallies , every night on here , no media needed
He has ignored covid , 380,000 at least are dead

It may depend on what people think a president should do. It isn't all his fault, but he's made many many things a lot worse by his conduct, and not many better.
If a politician should do his best to improve life for all those he governs over, then it's a failure.
There are some good things. He's probably had an effect on drug prices, probably some other things.
He's not condemned Charlottesville, he couldn't bring himself to condemn the rioters he instructed to assault the Capitol, he's given out tax breaks which will wound the US economy for years to come, he's enriched his own properties and family, he's appointed his family to high positions they have no qualifications for, he's removed lots of protections on the environment for his mates in Big Corp.
He's allowed himself to be used by N Korea, China have had free reign to annex territory in the S China Sea, Russia have largely gone unchecked, he sold out the Kurd allies in exchange for oil.
The status of Israel is probably better, but there is significant cost to others, as he recognised Jerusalem as the capital (stuff the Palestinians), granted claim to the Western Sahara to Morocco (for publically being nice to Israel). It's no secret that Western Sahara and N Korea are mineral rich.
He's lied about just about everything he can thousands of times, lots of people are now convinced that half the media lie, that Clinton is a paedophile, etc, such that a lot of people don't know what is invention and what isn't. Millions can't sift truth from lie, and believe that every election was fraudulent when it was under him that the Postal Service removed machinery to deal with ballots, voter rolls were culled on race/location lines.
He and McConnell have grossly politicised the Supreme Court. He's bullied and corruptly enriched himself with his goons. When one of them lied to protect him and was convicted, he pardoned him (that's just a cycle of guaranteed sanction-free crime for his benefit). He's openly stated that he is America and can use the government justice system to defend his own crimes.
Almost all of those actions are not for the USA, they are for HIM, his greed and ego, and his mates to continue to get rich and likely attempt a Presidential dynasty.
Self-serving is almost never country-serving.
The UK media hasn't really pushed this angle of it yet, but this protest/terrorist attack/riot was not spontaneous.
It followed a rally, held by Trump, Don Jr and Giuliani where they pumped them up and incited this attack. Giuliani demanded "trial by contract", Jr. told them to go to war, Trump screamed at them to march on the Capitol and said ‘You Will Never Take Back Our Country With Weakness’.
The media have an obligation to tell it like it really is, it’s a terrorist attack on democracy and an attempted coup of the United States of America.
It’s not different to the ones that happen in Turkey or the Middle East, or other parts of the world.
This is the seizing of power by a fascist minority, just like it was in 1923 in Germany.
Anyone claiming otherwise doesn’t know history and doesn’t understand the ramifications if this lot are successful.

He got elected because he does good rallies and promised to stick it to washington , he also showed his racist leanings , much more subtlely than he did after he was elected but enough to call for and build a base , dont forget his crooked hiliary line and his catchy slogan, boris borrowed bannon to get him in with his slogan and talking and promising with no intention of following through
Trump was already corrupt but the power has let him be a psycopath and a wanna be despot , he is totally derranged now , nothing he says makes sense or belongs in reality ,that was all there in 2016 but ultimate power has accelerated it

The first 100 pages is a treasure trove of early 2017 takes. Many prescient, others hysterical though only slightly in retrospect, some terrible (the boards great ITK content provider was, probably still is, very taken by the big man I note) and a few quite deranged.
Did that @BluePhil8 character just sorta sidle away from all his giddy fanaticism gradually or is he just in denial ?
