Coronavirus (2021) thread

It's basic psychology.

We behave how we perceive others to behave.

If flouting the rules is perceived as normal, more people will follow.

We can all help by (1) following the rules and (2) Saying that we and most other people are following the rules.

People don't generally like to be the misfit. At the start of this, I felt like a right prat wearing a mask in a shop. . Why? Because nobody else was.
I know that feeling. I get the bus to work and was wearing a mask and gloves back from February. In the supermarket I could see people looking at me like I had two heads just because I had a mask on.

When I see Cummings Ferrier Ferguson Sturgeon Rees-Mogg, Benjamin Mendy, Kyle Walker, Ian Brown or anyone else breaking covid rules or talking bollocks, it doesn’t make me or most people I know think “yeah, if they’re doing it, I may as well too”.

It makes me think “I’m the fucker who needs to set an example to everyone”

They’re doing it, finally! I’ve been calling for this for months.. they’re finally saying if you don’t follow the rules you will contribute to killing people!

FINALLY!

Boris also said “these people who are outside hospitals protesting and calling this whole thing a hoax simply need to grow up” WELL SAID!

The head of the NHS said “if you’re someone who sneaks into a hospital at nine o’clock and take a picture of an empty corridor and then post that on social media claiming the NHS is not overwhelmed... YOU ARE LYING, and you are contributing to the spread of false information, the virus and deaths” WELL SAID!

FINALLY!

All that was missing there was the army bloke coming in third and saying “we will work with the Police to lock these people up!”
Thanks for that. I guess it's either they crack down on masks and general attitude, or they will have to crack down on people not working from home, or using the car. There's no more wiggle room for them now.

Thought that the question from the BBC regarding what is happening in America was not the right one to be asked at this press conference. Not saying that it isn't important just that there is a time and a place.
Also liked the response from the Head of the NHS regarding issues surrounding the vaccine, yes there will be issues arising about distribution and people ending up in hospital despite having been vaccinated but what you won't here is about the 98% of things we do right or quicker than expected.
Basically calling out the media for emphasising bad stories to gain clicks without giving praise when it is due.

I had a call from my boss in Germany today and apart from business we spoke about the vaccination process in our respective countries. He was scathing about the German roll out and he expects to get his first shot no earlier than the last quarter of this year (he is 50).

There is talk of Merkel being in talks with Russia to possibly obtain the Sputnik V vaccine and he said there is no fucking way he or his family would have that (or a Chinese one).

Our numbers will look unbelievable compared to theirs by the end of next week.
I do wonder how this is going to affect travel, by all accounts the French are very resistant to taking it and it’s very slow in other countries, I hope we say no entry unless you’ve had it. I’d expect the same going into a country.
My mother in laws fella has had it, he’s a Porter at oldham hospital, suppose he will bore us to death with it now, fucking rag I’ll just mention the game last night.

Okay England hospital data for last 24 hours:

Patients 28, 246 - up 519 / Already almost 10,000 over the peak of wave 1 in April when just under 19,000 were in hospital

Ventilators 2654 - up 104 / Fast closing in on peak of 2881 in mid April.

Hard to argue other than these numbers are pretty disturbing.

He was very gloomy about the chances of him doing any international business travel until the last quarter of this year. Doesn't really affect me as I usually just attend three sales meetings in Germany every year but they have been online since last Christmas.

Might be worth getting seen to and checked for concussion.
I think I was concussed a little; as I walked home after I felt pissed! I seem to be ok now and I don't want to derail the thread anymore than necessary, but a work colleague (who I barely know really) said today "I live near you. We will exchange numbers so if you are ever needing help again or feeling in a bad way I can come round in the car "
Thought that was lovely of her and reminded me that the majority of people are essentially very decent good people.

Plus the lad who stopped to pick me up off the ice yesterday morning (I couldn't get up because everytime I did I slipped!), and the couple who saw me fall and crack my head last night and came rushing over and spent time to see if I was ok.
All fantastic people.

I know yeah, what’s tomorrow’s question? Something on North Korea, the situation in Burma, the war in Yemen, or the economic situation in Suriname?

The briefing is about Covid in Britain. Nothing else should be mentioned in them.

Good presser that . Very ambitious to vaccinate 13milliin by Feb 15th but at least we will be giving it a good go . Feel much more optimistic after watching NHS & Army fellas speaking .
Also mentioned two more drugs that have been given approval that will reduce fatality rates and the time spent in ICU.
Hopefully this means that if people do end up having to go hospital because either the vaccine wasn't successful in their case or that they were not in one of the groups eligible that their chances of being discharged have increased considerably.

I’ve booked Tenerife at the end of September I’m hoping that as a relatively small island they will be all immunised any any travellers will have had it before been allowed in.

You would think being lumped in to tier 4 until at least mid-March people might take things a bit more seriously. Watched one heffalump walk around the supermarket chatting whilst their mask was tooked under their chin. Why do some people think they are above the rules and immune to the virus?
Because they are thick

The UK has vaccinated 1.5 million people. This is a v good performance compared to most other countries, and I think you have to credit to the Govt for their efforts so far - but we need to go even faster

1.5 million? Johnson claimed 1.3 million on Monday. That's extremely slow progress, even allowing for it being early days.

oddly I'd have 0.0000001% semblance of understanding towards them if they didn't bother wearing it all and stuck to the strength of their convictions. Those who wear it as a neckerchief are just bizarre.

Wife's doc told her yesterday that government are full of shit with their vaccine roll out announcements and what he sees is nothing like their spin.
Maybe, but the performance of local doctor surgeries during this pandemic is probably the worst performaning thing of all.
Their performance has caused a schism in the medical profession. Local doctors surgeries have been more bothered about keeping people out of their surgeries than actually doing things to help. Hospital doctors are really annoyed with them to be honnest. Really annoyed.
They can't even be bothered setting up ill patient oxygenation checking without demanding a ludicrous amount of cash.

I do not know anyone who's had a vaccine. I know several old and vulnerable and working people who qualify for 1st lot.
One and a half million done already equates to roughly 1 in 60 people.

Its a logistical nightmare and we should all be patient.
Yeah its going to be a long haul but we’ll get there.
my nannas nursing home in wythenshawe are all done (1st jab)
