Penalty Taker

Who should take penalties if Haaland is not on the pitch?

De Bruyne is the penalty taker. We shouldn’t be giving them away so someone in poor form get a bit of confidence. Fair enough if we’re 3-0 up but it was on a knife edge.

Pat Nevin on 5Live has just suggested KDB was so knackered by the end of the game and after that last run to win the penalty that he was just too gassed to take the penalty and that's why he handed it off.

That's on De Bruyne.

He's the designated taker, he's the captain, he even won it.

And he's ducked the responsibility and handed it off to an out of form player who's only touched the ball a couple of times since coming on.

Suppose you are right and that is both shocking and disappointing.

Kev, Gundo, Cancelo, Zinchenko would all be much much better penalty takers.
like a few said, I had zero confidence he would score, I was more pleased the pen award got to use up a bit more time!

Have to guess De Bruyne was alright with it to try to let Raheem get a goal and build his confidence, but in a game that was very tight for its entirety I'd much rather have Kev or Gundo take that. If either of those two are on the pitch they need to be taking all pens

Professional footballers cannot put the ball over the bar from the spot. I coached 11 year old girls and we got in a shootout in the playoffs after having worked very hard against a better team to get a 1-1 draw at FT, hadn’t practiced penalties, and three of them did that and we lost. They cried. Bawled their eyes out.

Sterling should be forced to have a anesthetic-less colonoscopy for that.

For what it's worth Sterling did score the winning penalty in the League Cup final so it's not like he can't take them. 3/5 record in his career in normal play.

I probably trust him over Jesus & Bernardo.
