I’m not sure enough of the public understand what an amazing achievement and advance this is and what the new technologies could mean for treatment of other viruses in the future too.

Not just viruses either.

It's essentially a way for us to force cells to make a protein. It could be the biggest leap forward in cancer treatment since chemotherapy, it could be the key to unlocking stem cells as a viable treatment, because you can use mRNA to turn normal cells into pluripotent stem cells.

Moderna are currently trialling an mRNA vaccine for diabetes because you can inject it into pancreatic cells and make them produce insulin.

278,943 1st doses administered on Wednesday though. Was 207,661 on Tuesday, and 145,076 on Monday. That suggests a better ramp up than many of us on here were expecting which is fantastic news

Yes, I saw that figure somewhere. It's a bit up and down, but generally I agree - better than it looked like it might be.

Watch areas for those who asked:

CHESHIRE EAST:-

241 - up from 175. Total cases 15, 507. Pop score up 63 (more than Stockport again Andyhinch) to enter the 4000 club at 4067 after just over two weeks traversing the 3000s. And months to get through the 2000s.

Weekly Pop down from 417 to 413 which is good.

Hope they don’t keep getting computer problems the data was very slow coming through yesterday. I estimate at the current rate of vaccination I should be getting the call in early February.

Nigh

EDIT ^^ absolutely no idea why that’s been entered (hope it’s not a prophecy...)

Wales Data:

54 deaths (was 56 last Friday)

1808 cases (was 2487 last Friday)

At 9.5% positive (it is falling with the cases in Wales which is good)

The 7 day rolling cases - Weekly Pop - as I calculate for GM boroughs each evening - is now being shown by Wales on their data.

It has fallen again (was in mid 400s when they started). Today it is 372.

Vaccinations:- total first doses 126, 375 (13, 402 yesterday - which is up from 11, 602 on Wednesday) Second doses 8 to total 129.

Night of constant coughing leaving me worn out as crap sleep. Seemed far worse on one side. It’s just sticking around now now getting better or worse.
Not sure what else I can do to recuperate: lots of fluids, vit D, fruit, paracetamol and rest. Wonder if the coughing has been exacerbated by my asthma.

An epidemiologist early on suggested great things could happen through the intense vaccine research. Read a story this morning about a hybrid aeroplane which could cut emissions down by 95%.

I can’t see the stop of globalisation (humans will always want to explore) but perhaps science will find kinder ways about from hybrid/electric/hydrogen powered travel to rapid deployment of vaccines for the next virus (and also the likes of cancers).
I’ve never been to south east Asia but would love to go.

maybe we’re on the cusp of the next leap in science.

As it gets asked so often in here I will keep reposting the above post and update it every time we get more vaccination data as it ends up being pages back by the time people ask.

A separate data thread might be sensible now as the number of times I have seen posts asking about numbers that were posted in here but obviously too far back to have caught up and read in a fast moving thread has notably increased.

This reposting will at least minimise that for vaccination data.

Well you are our go to data poster and I reckon you've probably just about scraped over the minimum number of posts required to be able to start a new thread ;-)

So go for it!
