Ma got her COVID jab yesterday.

They asked if she had any allergies, any allergic reactions to vaccinations in the past, any recent jabs such as flu. Explained she was getting the Pfizer vaccination and the likely reactions to it (arm ache, headache, nausea) pinched the arm flesh, jab, done.

Sat in the waiting area for 15 mins for observation then told she could leave. Got given a card confirming she'd had the vaccination, a leaflet about what to do next and in case there are any problems, to call 111, went home and said they'd call for the second jab in 12 weeks. Whole thing took 30 mins, max.

24 hours later so far no reactions to the vaccination.

Edit: also, on the card, it says which vaccination you received.

A island in the middle of nowhere, we are a international travel hub for the world.
Doesn’t matter how big a travel hub we are, we are still an island, all it takes to close our borders is to cancel flights and boats. It’s very very simple. The system to close borders is identical with Great Britain and New Zealand, one might have more airports and seaports to close than the other, but the format is the same.

We aren’t bordered by other countries with roads coming in and out. Germany, for example, borders nine other countries and has hundreds of roads going into or coming from all of these countries. You can walk across a field in France and be in Germany with no border checks.

There are lots of towns that traverse country borders in Europe. You can live in France but work in Germany while being in the same town in some places. Look at Basel, a city that’s actually in three different countries (Switzerland France and Germany).

Its not been publicised so as there is a small who ha about throwing vaccine away here goes, according to a district nurse friend of mine who is doing shifts giving out the virus...
O-AZ Vaccine vials contain 10 shots not 5 like The Pfizer vaccine and you can only get 11 out of one if you are very, very careful - there is less waste in them. Only an absolute expert in giving jabs can do it.
You're also, quite rightly, not allowed to give a bit from one vial and a bit from another for batch testing and tracking purposes.
But each vial in a package will all be from the same batch surely, I’ve worked in cosmetic manufacturing and filling and know how this works to a degree. Not sure why they can’t be topping up the dose from the next vial as long as they’ve kept different batches apart.

Unfortunately our government underestimated this virus, they thought that as other countries went into hiding they could keep everything open and make a few quid for U.K. plc. Hindsight is a beautiful thing but closing borders back in February and then propping up airlines and tourism etc would have been a lot easier than where we are now.
Hindsight is a beautiful thing. But when we saw what happened in March last year, we should have used that hindsight as experience in October and December when new rises were starting, but we didn’t.

One key difference between NZ and the UK is that the latter is much more dependent on food imports.

Overall, we import about 40% of our food requirements, either because we simply cant grow the food here (oranges, bananas, etc.) or because of how supply chains have developed historically (e.g. we import a lot of beef from Ireland that we could potentially grow here).

New Zealand on the other hand is one of the most self-sufficient countries in the world, along with Australia.

To be fair, the mask situation was so that joe public didn’t buy them all leaving the NHS with fuck all. As is always proved by bog roll storage etc
Called this kind of statement out months ago, it was just being used as a lame excuse as to why the NHS had none.
The masks worn by NHS staff are a totally different grade to what is sold in bundles on Amazon etc.

At the start of the pandemic when we were scrabbling around for supplies was a different kettle of fish.

and I’ve also seen plenty of footage over the last 10 months of medical staff wearing the normal blue masks.

So nearly a year after the pandemic started they decide to shut the borders.
You couldn't make it up, sheer incompetence again.

Wales Data Update:

Deaths 55 - was 62 last Saturday,

Cases 1129 - was 2373 last Saturday.

At 7.3% positive versus 12.4 % last Saturday

The weekly Pop score for Wales falls to 345.

No vaccination update yet given.

This looks good progress from Wales. The fall in the weekly Pop has been consistent now for a week.

Then Wales was above every borough in GM. Now it is below everyone - having overtaken the best in GM - Oldham - today.

(Weekly Pop as with evening GM reports for each borough means cases over last 7 days per 100,000 population compared daily week to week - showing if the trend is up or down and the rate of rise or decrease showing how much progress is being made).

it is just not allowed , you dont mix anything that is not intended to be mixed , there is no chances taken , strict safeguards

There should be a quarantine / isolate app that you must install on your smart phone while you have to quarantine. This would help make sure idiots couldn't breach quarantine or isolation rules. It would allow you to be tracked to not leave your home and allow staff to check you were where you say you are.
Apps like this have kept the virus under control in Taiwan, South Korea etc and have clearly saved tens of thousands of lives.
Not in this country though. It violates your right to break the rules and kill someone else apparently.
I don't always take my phone with me if I go out, in fact since this started I only tend to take things I need, like credit card and keys, so it wouldn't work, as people would just leave a phone at home if they were breaking the rules deliberately.
