Wales Data Update:

Deaths 55 - was 62 last Saturday,

Cases 1129 - was 2373 last Saturday.

At 7.3% positive versus 12.4 % last Saturday

The weekly Pop score for Wales falls to 345.

No vaccination update yet given.

This looks good progress from Wales. The fall in the weekly Pop has been consistent now for a week.

Then Wales was above every borough in GM. Now it is below everyone - having overtaken the best in GM - Oldham - today.

(Weekly Pop as with evening GM reports for each borough means cases over last 7 days per 100,000 population compared daily week to week - showing if the trend is up or down and the rate of rise or decrease showing how much progress is being made).
Fucking pissed me right off, got a fortune coming out in the next 3 months and likely £400 damage as a minimum.

Parenting these days is abysmal and the police are hopeless.
Too right , it’s usually quiet where I live but the last 3 -4 weeks the local idiots have decided because it’s quiet to a good place to park up about midnight 2 or 3 times a week in the avenue across from me , smoking drugs & those gas canisters that you see all over now .
They’d nip for a take- away , come back & the shit in the morning all over was disgusting ( i’ve Got a thing about litter ) . The other week i’d Had enough when one car became two, spoke to a neighbour & we agreed we’d sort it out , Mrs persuaded me to go the legal route , rang the police about midnight , told em what was going on , they said they’d send some officers ....an hour goes by , yep we’re sending some officers ....half a hour more ...rang back , they said theyd been to the address & no-one was there . They lied , i’d Watched the whole time . 2.30 am now these twats are still there , wrecking the place , rang the police again , really obnoxious woman copper whose sole purpose was to wind me up so they wouldn’t have to do anything .
Eventually I said if they didn’t do anything i’d Go out & sort these blokes out myself , it’s then she said my call was recorded & I could be arrested for making threats .........! The best is yet to come ..she then said ‘ do you know if the occupants of these cars have Covid-19 as their officers need protecting “ ..........I hung up , the police won .

Isn't that relating to being on lockdown though? And travel even though still active is far more limited etc so perhaps it's just not had as good a chance to spread thus far? Just thinking out loud.
You're right. It's a very 'hand-wavy' way of looking at it. If South Africans were being reinfected in significant numbers you'd have thought that we'd have heard about it. I guess that is what you call negative evidence?

Tbf, their role has increased drastically since then and probably with less staff as population has grown. Spend most of their time babysitting people with mental health issues or looking for missing people, with the word 'missing' being treated loosely as in most cases its a back covering exercise.
Don’t want to carry on too much as it’s not completely Covid related but I did read somewhere numbers vs population is actually more in their favour now than then.

Society has deteriorated massively culturally and that’s not their fault but they need to make more of a presence.

You’d swear there was a punchline coming, alas there was none. Sad state of affairs but nothing unexpected.

The admissions are always out of date but have their own problems which is why I never mention them.
OK, I was just pointing at a possible bit of good news, people are obviously still being admitted in high numbers, but hopefully the high numbers are starting to decline, it will be a while before people in hospital starts to fall though, as for that to happen, the admissions will need to be much lower than currently.

been talking to a Dr friend tonight. Rather depressing news, essentially she said the virus is behaving differently to other coronarvirus's and its unpredictable in the way it attacks different tissue and organs in people, more younger people in icu than last spring wave and even with the vaccine there are likely to be further severe restrictions on our society in the next few years.

This is bad news. That said it depends how ill people get the 2nd time round.
I can see borders remaining shut for a long time as a result and an update jab in the Autumn.
That data in the thread does sound pretty worrying. The speed with which these nasty mutations are occurring now is possibly why we seem to have gone into overdrive post Christmas trying to stop what may already be the unstoppable. Explains why suddenly we are talking about stopping passengers coming on flights without even stricter restrictions.

Even if the vaccines are modified and we start all over again this may keep on happening. With so many infected there are always going to be opportunities for a virus as widespread as this to find a new, better way to thrive.

It is almost like this is a bio weapon not a virus doing what viruses just do but - something designed to stop what people will try to do to repel viruses. Obviously it's just bad luck, but it has come too early for us to really have much chance of stopping it becoming dominant. Until the next version turns up that outdoes this one.

What we need now is a new mutation that eats these two and metaphorically cosies up to humans and says - let's be friends. I will just give you a headache if you let me infect you but nothing else if you promise to let me stick around.

Unfortunately nature does not work like that.

Does not feel great to think that humans might not not be top of the food chain and are prey to a teeny little thing.

Keep on pointing it out, please.

We need all the good news we can get.

Hopefully if it comes to a fight between the UK variant and the South African one we can choose cricket bats and ours will clobber theirs for six. At least ours plays by the rules.

Fucking hopeless.

Just reading that has my blood boiling.

It’s no wonder they are totally failing.

They’ve been missing since 1967 when Roy Jenkins stopped them patrolling our streets and they became reactive over proactive.

Can’t remember the last time I saw a police officer on foot.
My old man used to say that one of the biggest cons pulled on the public was the introduction of panda cars as it took the Police off the streets and made them more remote.
He also use to say that the role of the police was to prevent crime.
Sorry to go off at a tangent in this thread.

News from other areas:

Top of the tree Merthyr Tydfil - the only borough to have entered the 10,000 club - with a Pop of 10,050 today (ie at a minimum 10% of the population there have had Covid) - has now slowed down and only went up by a modest 33.

Burnley is closing in on joining it but had a drop in cases to just 78 and its pop score only rose to 9220 so has a way to go.

Knowsley on Merseyside is still having big cases 10 times what it was before Christas and with 241 today by 160 - highest Pop rise of the day - enter the 9000s at 9037. If it carries on at this rate it will be in the 10,000s too inside a week.

Liverpool up a bit and sill outstripping Manchester for cases easily at 491 today but well down on the 900 it was at 10 days ago. Pop score raced ahead of Manchester in that time too after being behiond all the pandemic.
