Keown reacts like a child (as does Wio) about a goal for us, it's all "I don't like the rules, they're stupid".

You don't need much of an imagination to realise that if it'd been a goal against us and Shearer had been in the studio he'd have pulled out his stone-eyes routine and just brushed it off with a "those are the rules, I don't know what all the fuss is about, they need to just deal with it".

There's no bias, of course there's not. ;)

It is so simple and basic I just don't get what people, including the so called expert in the media, find hard to understand.
It is not a new rule. It has happened for decades. Plenty of goalkeepers have given away silly goals by miscontrolling the ball while an attacker is trying to block their clearance. In virtually every case there is only one player in front of the attacker (ie the goalie). When this happens the goalie plays the attacker onside. Jesus tries to score like this every match. In fact he tried it last night in the second half. It doesn't make any difference that Rodri has come from behind Mings. Dean Smith made a total fool of himself as did the BT pundits.

Don’t know why I do it to myself. Clicked on the BBC website about 5 times in the last 2 years. Just had a look, ‘‘farcical’ Man City goal...’ clicked straight off. A national disgrace that couldn’t report factually and without spin if their jobs depended on it. Vermin.

Exactly. It's like attackers run their nuts off, closing down keepers for a laugh!

Smith made himself out to be what he was a sore loser, Ming's too. Worse than that he made himself out to be stupid. The fa should throw the book at him for his behaviour and comments and Villa and their shitehouse fans can get to fuck. As for the media I'd expect nothing less from those utter shitehouses where we're concerned and that monkey faced buffoon Keown whining "It might be the law but it's not in the spirit of the game." What does that even mean??? Here's one for all the whining twats. How about asking Smith and the Villa players about that Sheffield United goal that clearly crossed the line last season? Then ask why in the spirit of the game they didn't let Sheffield United score from the kick off, when they clearly saw it was over the line.

Listened to talkshite on the way home form work last night to hear the reaction, fair play to goldstein (although it was probably his turn to be that side of the debate) he was arguing with cundy about when is Rodri allowed to rejoin play and when does phase 2 start, he pushed cundy through each step saying is it phase 2 now... All that candy could say was...but it's not fair the rule needs to change. This situation must've cropped up numerous times since the rule has been in place but never questioned before to this degree. BT had 2 ex rags on the panel who thought the goal should not stand, I'm pretty sure that the scum used this rule as a tactic with van horseface I think it was permanently offside and then sneaking back on (unmarked) for phase 2. Either they have very bad memories or they are shite pundits as they don't know the rules.

That coverage on BT was he worst yet. Hostile towards City from the start to the end. The commentary team were dire, just giggling and swapping childish stories with each other when they weren't willing Villa to win. They couldn't even get the City scorer's name right. It is amazing that someone as stupid as Ferdinand gets a gig on TV. He makes Savage look like a genius.

I'm loving this Drama this morning...Experts well fook me it's amazing that of all of the pundits(Apart from maybe 2 ) including ex expert Refs dont know the rules.
If they thought about this for a min they would realise that it has to be that way as every player who was ever off side during a game would in there minds be permanently offside .....
Wish I was in work and not working from home the Dipper/Rags followers will be crying there hearts out in the brew room .
Come on City .
I like the bit about being permanently offside. I suppose it's the natural conclusion if those ignorant of the rules insist that Rodri is offside when he challenges Mings. Then eventually the entire team could be permanently offside and could take no further part in the game. Then the ignorant pundits would complain even more and disappear up their own back sides.

Him and Owen are dumb and dumber and I agree bt are despicable and even want us to be beaten in the champions league.

If the Villa keeper throws the ball he’s not offside full stop.
The law ur trying to clarify is to stop the attacking player smashing or cannoning the ball off the defender to his own player in an offside position .

if the defender deliberately’plays the ball then it doesn’t matter where u are stood

it’s always been this way !

footballers ,and more so , so called expert pundits just do not know the laws

sod off ferdinand
Shame u didn’t realise ur not to climb out of a toilet window when it’s ur turn for a drugs test !

The law has always ( at least in my lifetime) been that you are offside only if your own player was the last one to play the ball. It was however clarified more recently that an opposition player had to deliberately play the ball, rather than a situation where he has no control of it.

For example, let's imagine Rodri was in an offside position, the Villa keeper has the ball and throws it to Mings. Mings isn't looking however, it hits the back of his head and rebounds to Rodri, who is then judged to be offside as Mings is judged not to have played the ball deliberately.

If Mings is under pressure from a player who's onside, tries to head it back but heads it to Rodri, that's not offside. If Rodri challenges Mings for the ball before or as Mings plays it, he's offside.

I think you need a new sport if you think that could ever be offside.

Quite incredible hearing ex players especially former strikers talking about how it should be offside and its jot in the spirit of the game when they would of done exactly the same thing as Rodri

I think Ferdinand is a perfect fit for BT

Known is just a pure ****. I've just watched MOTD and he's crying about our first goal like a baby. Even when it's clearly pointed out to him that Rodri had done nothing wrong and by Mings playing the ball that makes Rodri onside he still won't stop crying. He then goes on about not being in the spirit of the game or some such bullshit. That really pissed me off as it's implying we somehow did something underhand or cheated, well we didn't monkey face! No mention of how good a strike it was and Bernardo still having a lot to do. The penalty was nailed on too. The lad raised his hands to clearly block Jesus's header, hands up high in an unnatural position to block the ball. They can all fuck off, I hope we win every trophy this year and have them crying all close season.
At absolute worst, surely it could compared to the likes of Robbie Keane standing behind the Keeper waiting for him to roll it out and relieve him of possession?

Which is universally known as 'clever' play.............

I noticed that Bernardo seemed to know the law, and I assume that Rodri did as my immediate thought was that he stood off Mings for a second before getting involved.

I don't mind Savage, and he enjoyed his potshots at Ferdinand - Savage rarely pretends to be anything he isn't, and (as yesterday) knows that he gets things wrong. He just likes football and gets annoyed when teams aren't as good as he thinks they should be.

I think the fact that experts dont know the off side just proves I am right in not paying for Sky, BT. Why would I pay for experts who dont know the rules of football !

i wonder if their constant initiating contact and dropping to the ground at the merest touch is in the "spirit of the game" too?
