When was that again?

After the coronavirus break, when Aguero go injured, he scored 4 in the last 5 league games, then he kicked Madrid out of the Champions League. 23 goals and 10 assists in 34 starts last season.

This season he got injured after scoring vs. Wolves, came back and got us a point vs. Liverpool, then endured 4 or 5 games when the entire attack stopped playing and people like you wanted Txiki and Guardiola fired, and claimed Pep was "out of his depth at City".

So when exactly were all these chances to step up that he didn't take?

Why is it that he has one of the best goal/game rates of any player in history when he gets to start games?
He's been here 4 years now. he's not one bit better than when he arrived. He's an ok player, nothing to write home about. As for Pep and Txiki the teams resurgence has coincided with a kind run of fixtures and finally realising that Phil was in fact up to it.
Stats are meh as far as I'm concerned. The eye tells the true tale.

The first chance he had when he hit the post , four years ago when he joined us he scores that with his eyes shut , but he had two big chances and scored one , which is a great ratio for any striker. He didnt get the service tonight and he had to come deep looking for the ball to get involved , hopefully he gets a start against WBA and can build his confidence / momentum.
Tend to agree with that. His finishing is nothing like as instinctive as when he joined us. It’s been like that for a while and that’s all down to confidence.

Jesus is never going to be the out and out 20 goals a season striker like Sergio or a half a chance and goal kind of player BUT his movement is world class, Sterling for instance benefits from the movement off the ball from Jesus, taking defenders into positions and creating space for others

Best minutes per goal record in Premier League history:
  1. Sergio Aguero. Total goals: 180. ...
  2. Harry Kane. Total goals: 143. ...
  3. Thierry Henry. Total goals: 175. ...
  4. Mohamed Salah. Total goals: 75. ...
  5. Ruud van Nistelrooy. Total goals: 95. ...
  6. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Total goals: 54. ...
  7. Gabriel Jesus. Total goals: 41. ...
  8. Luis Suarez. Total goals: 69.

Not bad for a no hoper. These were accurate upto the summer but I accept his figures will have changed for the worse in the last few weeks. It's all about confidence.

It wouldn't be bluemoon forum if we didn't have many posters making definitive statements based on players coming back after being out for a large period of time.

You know, you CAN wait a reasonable amount of time after a player returns to make those assessments.

If you want to make it based on his previous game times (first couple years), well his goals and assists each per 90 prove how well he has been for us, and not just token goals, many vital ones as pointed out above.

I've been a big supporter of Jesus for years. I honestly thought he would be a world-beater at the start of his City career. He occasionally does some brilliant things but, for me, that's not enough anymore. Every year I have been hoping that he would step up particularly as a goalscorer. I'm rapidly losing patience with him and I don't think that's unfair. He has been with us a long time now and I give him till the end of the season to prove he has what it takes to be the world class striker we need to win the major trophies.

It's obvious though that Jesus just hasn't progressed. Of course people accept covid and the injuries, but the reality is he just doesn't score enough goals and isn't a big enough threat. This is exactly why the club want Messi and Haaland. Jesus does a lot right, but he isn't a killer in the box.

It's obvious he's suffering from what every back up striker suffers from, which is they aren't match sharp and confident when expected to step in for the first choice. That's his problem.

The club would want another striker no matter how good Jesus was, because Aguero is 33 and hasn't scored a league goal in over a year.

Get to the Etihad early (when covid permitting) when the team are doing their warm up, practicing shooting, him and Sterling are comical.

That is a stone cold fact. We usually arrive nice and early for games - there are a lot of interesting things in warm ups to entertain the early birds. The shooting practice is often no less than hilarious. The words cows, arse, and banjo are frequently used

At this point watching how he plays I'm pretty certain he's going to be used as a fluid forward in the same vein that Mahrez, Sterling, Foden, and Torres are used as forwards. Don't think we're going to see out and out striker Jesus this season unless we're chasing a game.

Watching him drop deep a lot this season I actually reckon he'd be a good CM. Good at linking play and taking players on, is technically sound, doesn't stop running, actually enjoys the defensive side of the game and has decent pace.

I actually think he'd be really well suited to the old school attacking midfielder role, for similar reasons. But that position doesn't really exist anymore in the modern game.

Should have done better today, plenty of graft again but not quite the needed quality.

As a squad player,awesome.

Doesn't matter how much quality he has if he is the only player in the box woth 5 defenders and a keeper.

Pick any striker in the world, they aren't going to do anything agaisnt that back 5 with the way we playing right now.

He got one good chance in the box when Torres actually got in behind, and he scored it.

1 chance. 1 goal. 1-0. Exactly what people like you have been saying he needs to do.

And what about the one the keeper saved which he wrapped in a ribbon and gifted?

People like me? lol

Exactly lol. If he does good link up play and defending "He's not a winger, could care less about that, needs to score".

Doesn't do much, but scores the winner "Only scored, not good enough"

what a joke
