Doesn't matter how much quality he has if he is the only player in the box woth 5 defenders and a keeper.

Pick any striker in the world, they aren't going to do anything agaisnt that back 5 with the way we playing right now.

He got one good chance in the box when Torres actually got in behind, and he scored it.

1 chance. 1 goal. 1-0. Exactly what people like you have been saying he needs to do.
In fairness he didn't score the one at the end (good keeping tbh).

I think your point still stands though. He did score the only goal in the game.

Stats can be misleading. He is a good squad player but I can only go with what I see each week and he is not going to cement the no 9 position. Misses far too many chances when we need to finish teams off. Scoring when we are 2/3 up is not what we need.

Glad we have him but we need a new forward to take up the mantle.

I'm one of his biggest defenders on here because I can see all that he brings to our team. I will say this though, his movement in the box is terrible. He never scores because he's made a good run and beat the defender to the ball. He scores only if the ball in gets to him as he never gets to the ball in. He'd score more if its something that he worked on.

He did what he is paid to do , score winning goals not a great performance from him , he was on the periphal of the game but scored the winner , rightplace , right time on and another day he takes the match ball home , had a couple of other opportunities , hope scoring the winner gives him a bit of confidence.

He doesn't work defenders enough, he generally places himself so a defender is between him and the direction the cross or pass is coming in from.. Too static in the box maybe he should drag a defender out of the box and create some space.

He isn’t the worst offender for this in the team by any means - but that’s a different discussion for a different player thread. I agree though that he isn’t the prolific striker we need, that’ll nail down that no 9 position with regular goals.

I think Pep stuck him in today, against Sheffield, in the hope he’d bag a couple against a team we should be beating and kick start some scoring form. He did score the vital goal we needed, but also telegraphed the shot late on - a chance any top top striker (the kind that we need) would have slotted away. Looked like a quality save, but the keeper shouldn’t have been given a hope of saving that.

I hope today’s was the goal that opens some form of floodgate for him, but I’m not convinced it will be.

Whilst I agree with you, he did have a second very big chance and allowed the keeper to make a good save. But he could have given the keeper no chance.

Love the lad. think he is a great player, can play anywhere across the front three, quick. tracks back. Seems prepared to take his place on the bench.

However, would swap him for young Jesse at WHU, their new exciting youth prospect

Sometimes the discussion on Jesus can drift. He is a very good player at what he does and I hope he stays with us for many a year.

This season has shown that he will not be a 30 goal forward. Again, nothing wrong with that. All being said if you want to step into Sergio’s shoes 30+ per season is demanded and expected. That last chance he had today that you mentioned was a perfect example. Prime Kun would of closed the game out.

Very little service once more, the entire front line suffered from our slow passing but he worked tirelessly, decent hold up/link up play at times and scored the crucial goal. Wasn't vintage but he did everything asked of him with extremely limited service. Unlucky not to bag a brace at the end, nothing wrong with his attempt the keeper took a chance diving early and made a fantastic save.

Give it 3-4 years, young Jesse's gonna tear the league up!

What about the one on one at the end?

His work rate is great his goal scoring is pretty good and it’s so hard for him when we have Sergio and his goal scoring form while he has been with us.

I really don't know what's up with him, he looked a brilliant goalscorer when he first joined.

These days it's like he's antigoal, took 3 touches to get that in today, was 2 yards out.

Shame cause he joined young and he puts a lot of effort in and is generally very likble, but he can't be relied upon to put away chances at all.

yup, Jesus takes the brunt, but it's not just him, it's the striker position in general isn't it. Even Aguero was ineffective when we went through that sludgy oily neutral of certain greedy players holding it up too much and nullifying our man advantage situations by allowing their team time to get 10 behind the ball. Pep's (finally) getting away from this with more Foden on the left, and more Bernie and Raz on the right and we are far more fluid without having less possession. But we have let teams learn how to defend us, almost by default, and our striker being surrounded isn't going away, and what's not realized it seems, is that it will be the last position, no matter who is there, that will show returns moving forward. Be patient. We are moving forward.
