Sheffield United (H) | Post-Match Thread

think hes been playing in this style for quite some time. He's got one good forward pass and one overlap in him per game. He waves his arms for the ball then just passes back inside after hesitating the foreward pass. Worst though is the kamikaze tackling, always an accident waiting to happen.
I think you have a short memory my friend. It wasnt long ago he was one of our best players in a run of games. Kyle is an excellent player and it's very short sighted of you to say he has just one overlapping run to his game and one good forward pass. Tells me you haven't been watching all the games this season.

3 points in second gear. 1 nil up and then relax a bit. Don't go into the rough 50/50s, don't exert energy when you don't need too, keep the ball as much as possible (90% at one point), defend and communicate well when the other team has the ball. Great 3 points, not a memorable game, but we widen the gap. Tests will come soon, and we need players fresh.

why would laporte be reluctant to use his left foot ? hes left footed
I have no idea, he seemed to not want to play the ball forward on the outside - I guess It's understandable considering he's only just returned to full fitness and I'm sure we shall see his excellent distribution sooner rather than later - just an observation and not a criticism.

i think he is struggling with a little injury and not himself again today. when he is on his game and 100% nobody catches him on the over lap. yes can be a bit silly in the tackle and gives away silly free kicks like today near the end

but i think pep loves his speed and recovery at the back. pep uses him in a 3 to stop the teams that like to hit us on the break and the centre back can push up when we press. today he was lost in his the old team respecting them to much and was not himself and looked unfit and leggy but just about did enough to keep them out

I agree. Kyle was one of our best players last season. Coming back into the team today he was poor. But ffs cut him some slack. This season we will need all the squad. He is much better defensively than Cancelo and there will be critical moments this season when Kyle is crucial. Pep knows what he is doing.

I genuinely wonder how some of the posters in the matchday thread get through a day without flinging themselves off a roof.
It's a learning curve for many a blue. That red mist has a habit of throwing egg on your face. I've been there, learnt from it and now I'm a much more chilled out fan. I did slip off the wagon against Cheltenham slightly but it wasn't bad haha!

Pretty key in the last game v Sheffield United too!

its was man management by pep and a gamble on holding out ? it easy could have ended 1.1 with that late shot by sheff utd. that's why 1.0 is dangerous because any team in the premier league can hurt you ? city should have took out the gamble and go for a 2nd goal in the first half. even push for 10 minutes before halftime and the quality we had was good enough to score again

but its was so so slow the movement was missing walker was not looking to pass it forward. jesus did very little in holding the ball up or wanting the ball on the edge of the box ? foden was a shadow of what we have seen from him in the last couple of months

sheff utd even put 3 strikers on and fancy a last 10 minutes go at us ? city did not even look like they wanted to push on the break with the gaps from them pushing up fuck me we even played in the corners for time ??

i understand its not proper football with covid-19 and playing 3 games a week and pep wanting to protect the players but its the same for all clubs. but if city players are hurting and feeling the pressure on their bodies and fitness
you can bet sheff utd players will be even more knackered because the squad they have

if pep wants to use man management and control games vs lower table teams it would be better to use the 3 subs and not leave it late on into injury time. even use a subs to get some rest like the other do ? get a player to go down fake a injury then get him on again and have him go down again and then sub him ? works for burnley and wba and takes about 4 or 5 minutes out of the game

Not our best game but 5 changes and a 1-0 win to keep the run going. No other team in the league can make more than a couple and still win games. That is the difference. If we stay covid/injury free (and we have had our share of both) then we will regain the title.

I think the main piece missing was Cancelo. His role in that inverted position is just instrumental in all of the creativity and recent goal scoring improvement.

i don't think it was the players today its was the system we played ?? pep is a changed manager and now wants control of games and the defence ? no more silly slips at the back to a well drilled outfit. today was 3 at the back with walker as cover and pep never really let walker push up and over lap on the right. the life side was our way out and zinchenko pushed up and did the over laps or pushed into midfield

pep from the last 4 season at city is a different manager this season ? most of his teams he built over the years at barca and munich and city was built on attracting and leaving gaps behind ? everybody knew you could get at a pep team on the break because the defence was not the best

but this season boy has he worked on the defence and we looked a solid unit. even stones has be rediscovered and reborn and looks the £50million defender we signed from everton

maybe am not happy with boring 1.0 nil wins ? but i bet pep is over the moon tonight because all his hard work on the training ground has paid off big time

Massive 3 points and job done...Our creativity was not great but that was because no cancelo, Raz or mahrez I guess and they parked a very good bus to be honest. We can expect something similar vs burnley too and we need to be careful not to drop points here...

Happy with that. Okay not our finest hour but covid/roatation/resting players ect....we have become a team that can win 1-0 and get the 3 points when we need to. We dont have to demolish teams anymore because our defence is currently the best in Europe. We just hardly concede. Pep has found a Plan B. We can do this.
