It was worth 40m for the effect it has had on John Stones.

Stones has reinvented himself and now with Dias and Laporte ,we have 3 world class CB's.
World class ? this is where we always seem to get ahead of ourselves .Three very very good CH with more than a little potential to become world class .Lets just wait and see ,they have only been playing half a season together .As for Stones as much as he has worked very hard with his game and having Dias alongside him his biggest benefit is not having Otemendi alongside him ( he was always a car crash waiting to happen despite him winning trophies )

They are world class, there are very few quality defenders around, we now have 3 and a very decent back up (Ake).

John Stones lost his way, on and off the field, the John Stones of today looks a very happy guy and it shows on the pitch and off it apparently.

It depends upon one’s definition of “world class”

What actually is wrong with him ? Sorry if already been done to death
It's reminiscent of the Jesus injury earlier in the season, or the many seemingly eternal Mendy ones.

If I had to wager a guess I'd think something might be up with recovery. Some injuries can flare up again very easily during early recovery.

Interesting question. Would it mean they would make a World XI. Doubt it. Would it mean they are good enough to play in a world cup or champions league winning team. Yes, all 3.
I wouldn't include international football as club football is stronger
My criteria would be; take the top four teams of the strongest leagues and ask would the player merit a place in the starting eleven?

Just in: Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne, and Nathan Ake are NOT available for Liverpool [A], according to Pep Guardiola
Could be Kevin is back before Kun and Ake the way its going , just don't know what is wrong with Ake and Pep never says much about injuries in any detail like many other managers do.
