I got my letter today to book a vaccination - three days after I got that phone call Tuesday morning giving me two hours notice to go get to one. So they seem ahead of the game in Greater Manchester right now I would say.

Which is good news.

I have heard quite a few stories of the letter arriving after they have been phoned or texted and already had the jab in GM. paulchapo - I bet you get the letter next week after you have had the jab or booked one already by phone.
I got a letter today, two weeks to the day after i had my Jab

I agree, but I would never have dreamt of trying to push in. There are loads more needy than me. I’m not going to refuse it, of course, as it has been offered.

My grandma is waiting on a home visit vaccination to guarantee it is the AZ version due to anaphylaxis risks.
Wise move. My brother got offered one vaccine, then it was cancelled when the GP intervened and noticed something counter indicative, and also being cancelled again for not having waited 28 days since testing positive for Covid. He eventually got the AZ one last week when the 28 days were up.

No wonder there are so many free slots on last minute offer.

Had my jab today at 11.20 after getting a text invitation a week ago.
Went out with the dog and returned to find the letter from the NHS had been delivered at noon.

407 England hospital deaths - down from 537 last Friday.

63 from the NW though. 15% - up on yesterday.

Just under 50% of them under 80 again. Third time in last few days otherwise unheard of sub 50% split of that age group in this data.

These numbers certainly going in the right direction now day to day and week to week.

I have not yet read the letter in detail as it only just arrived. Can you still book the second one then even if you have already had the jab before the letter?

Do you have to go to the same venue as there might be more local options in 3 months?
No you can’t.
The letter says if you have already had a jab ignore the letter. You will be contacted by the NHS for jab 2 later.

we are not all in the same boat.

if you work in the public sector you have been on a 100% salary throughout this .

if you are a middle class family you are having nice family time. your kids are probably getting good home schooling , warm weather soon it’s going to be lovely .

If you are a family of 4 living in a tower block you won’t feel like we are all in this together and your kids are probably not getting a good home schooling experience , or any kind of happy families

if you have a little high independent street shop or restaurant in Manchester you think you can survive throughout this forever ?

don’t even get me started on footballers, soap stars and daytime tv hosts who not only can get on with their jobs and lives but seemingly all have their hairs nicely cut to a good style or styled for the females.

I thought all barbers and hairdressers were closed in the uk ? How is that possible ? Oh they are famous and on telly so that’s ok. Those rules just apply to us plebs.

if you are going on camera you are allowed a hair cut, not breaking any rules. Good job some can still do their jobs and pay taxes or we really would be screwed. How dare they be able to get on with their lives.

Half correct. Half bullshit

Well said. They lead the cheerleading for tougher restrictions and penalties everytime I've caught it. Of course that's easy to do when you live in a property with plenty of space both indoors and out and earn in a year what most people do in ten. I'm not going to write what I'd do to a lot of these people as I'd go into a very dark place indeed.

Always the same people mate.

Millionaires or people employed in the public sector (not all workers before people jump on me) wanting tougher lockdowns.

Doesn't affect them economically one bit.

You whining lot are in the wrong jobs then.
None of my kids work in the public sector.
They have all worked since last March.
Daughter’s company furloughed her for a couple of months but made up her pay to 100%. Since lock down 2 she has worked full time.
Son has worked from home since last March. Is middle class, him and his partner earn £150K between them and live in a city centre tower block.

I’m for us all getting on with our lives and paying taxes.

just seems a bit selective currently as to who can.

glad to see if you are famous and on tv you are immune from getting covid from a hair cut.

again must be just us plebs at risk

What are these groups ?

I got a letter saying I am clinically extremely vulnerable and have been shielding. I got a letter on Monday telling me I could book a jab, nearest place was 20 odd miles away and we have snow etc so didnt book. On the Tuesday my surgery phoned asking if I want a jab on Wednesday. So I went down on Thursday and was jabbed :)

Now just waiting to know if I am still to shield after the 21st feb or go back to work.

I am in the same position as you. Had my jab Tuesday and waiting to find out if I should go back to work.
I reckon we will be told to shield, till we have had 2nd jab.

England 407 hospital deaths:

I think there's a couple of ways people talk past one another.

Firstly, generally those wanting tougher restrictions are motivated by wanting restrictions to end or ease sooner, and with less risk of having to u-turn and reimpose.

Secondly, the evidence is pretty compelling that lower disease burden = less economic impact.

Though there are a minority who simply don't care about whole swathes of the population, I think most people have different perspectives rather than malign motives.

If you get tested and your barber gets tested and are both negative, then you are at the same risk as them - zero. Unfortunately the logistics of every barber getting tested every day, along with each customer are currently impossible so something has to give.

Glad to see some more good news floating around!

My wife who is a teacher tested positive last week and I subsequently caught it, I’ll tell you what having 2 young kids while fighting off the virus was hard going!

England hospital deaths 3 wks v 2 wks v last wk v Today:

993 / 94 NW / 9%

744 / 94 NW / 13%

537 / 69 NW / 13%

407 / 63 NW / 15% Today

NW total as percentage still showing why NW is coming down in numbers the least day to day.

But starting to get there now. Just a little behind the rest.

That's hope we are told before the 21st ! I didnt get my letter until 7 days after I should have been shielding ;)

England hospital deaths by age range:

20 - 39 (3) 0.8%

40 - 59 (36) 8.8%

60 - 79 (166) 40.8%

80 PLUS (202) 49.6%

Over 80s below 50% again just but this was very rare until past week or two, gap to 60 - 79s narrowing (again a recent trend) and under 60s up near or above 10% now the norm - it was once half this.

All what you would expect to see happening if the vaccinations are starting to kick in as mostly only the over 80s had any of them from the weeks ago where this would now be showing up in the death numbers

Still too early to say definitively but nothing appearing day by day contradicts the view the vaccine is starting to impact the death figures and likely will do so even more markedly as overall numbers fall and younger age percetanges appear to rise but likely will not in real terms - just relative to the falling totals.
