Erling Haaland

I'd say if we could get Haaland and Messi for combined wages of £1m-per-week, the club would still be doing very well?

We have been fortunate to buy key players that have given us ten years service and delivered the goods.

However, the market has moved on out of all recognition for the truly elite players during this time, hence why we have been able to tread water for a considerable while longer than some of our rivals, courtesy of Dave, Vinny, Sergio, Yaya and Zabba.

We have not had to come correct to the market for a long time, so could avoid the 'going rate' for comparable talents and replacements.

We are moving into a new cycle of strategic planning and that is going to take the type of cash that will undoubtedly make eyes water for plenty.

If somone is good at their job, you pay them whatever it takes, should it be able to solidify a dominant position in the marketplace.

Our club has done an amazing job this last decade limiting their exposure due to signing players just below the waterline that had a high ceiling to improve and ultimately become world class at City.

Now is not the time to shirk, nor feel compelled to defend City's supposed self-righteous stance on not overpaying, how we would be perceived to the wider public for turning on the oil taps again.

The time has come. The financial reality is upon us, we must use our strength to take advantage during the current economic climate, when some of our rivals are weaker.

If we have to pay £500k a week to both Messi and Haaland, then we must not hesitate.

And that also goes for making sure KDB and Sterling are given hefty increases, you find the monies.

Buying such players would cost you £150m a pop, so show them the fucking money.

I can tell you the Club are very excited about some of the stuff they have on the go for the summer, there is an acceptance we have been biding our time, but strike we now will.

I can't wait.
You can see a trend & reasons why these type of players have signed for Barca & Real even PSG

Its not the Barca thing or always wanted to wear the Real shirt just look at the fucking wages there on its fucking insane no wonder we couldn't sign De Jong or De L8gt at Juve they have been paid a Kings ransome knowing there chances will be minimised winning big trophys knowing the leagues in Italy & Spain are wank

We have to play our hand & not wait

FFP have relaxed 2 years so as long as we are all square come Summer 23 then let's go

3 worldys now espeacialy for around half the price they would normally cost allowing us to pay the rest in wages like you say

Look after our current 5-6 players & we have a very happy camp

Just imagine Messi, Alaba & Haaland for £100m?????

Come on its simple enough by offloading 1 maybe 2 players & the lads out on loan we have the cash to do it

The next 2-3 years would see us needing nobody unless people leave

Dino & Sergio earn between them £400.000, add the Silva wages we still have we are halfway there with wages

Its a no brainer & I'm all for it

The sponsors & deals are endless

Surely we have to balance the FFP books so can only pay so much? If others suck in more revenue (united for example) then they can pay more so its no surprise that we'll lose plenty of targets, as we did with many over the past decade of transfer-mania on here.

between covid and Barca not being able to pass, FFP is dead.

Amen to that.

I said earlier in the day on the Messi Mambo: The time is overdue for City to do something really game changing again in the transfer market.

City have done a great job in so many ways that it is hard to complain but let's just blow the motherlovers out of the water.

Hi TH

Obviously your last line aobut the Club being excited about the summer is coming from within the club and somethign you have picked up on/been told.

I agree with the rest of your post as well but is this just your opinion or is that also stuff you are picking up from within the club?

We will need to go beyond our previous spending (by some considerable way probably) to replace the likes of Sergio. I think we have done well/got lucky with the fact that we have foden who looks set to replace David Silva.....we have also bought well with Bernardo Silva and Dias who could both give us 10 years plus and proe to be absoluel bargains along with Ederson.

Do you think we will see major reinforcements or just a couple of high profile purchases?

For me now we have the centre half position sorted we need:

A left back - Delph and Zincehnko have done well in the past and this season - Mendy is a disaster of a player (even when fit for me) - he has been unlucky with injuries but he is never going to get this back....We will have to cut our losses on him as no one is going to pay much for him but he needs to go

Sergio's replacement - whether or not Sergio leaves this summer or next, I think we need his replacement in this summer....for me that is Haaland - a playe who could give us anoter 8-10 years of service as long as we meet what he needs/desires on a constant basis. He is clearly a motivated kid (my ONLY reservation about him is his agent and the trouble he could cause behind the scenes) - for me this is where the club need to go big

Ferna - I know there are whisperings about him becoming part of the coaching team (great move if you ask me) but we will then need to replae him in the squad - the lad at Villa looks decent and obviously Pep rates him as he ushed hard to get him in the first place

2 of those are literally the biggest shes to replace ever (Sergio and Ferna) - the last of the old guard. For me those 2 positions are where we need to go big on the spending and not hold back.

We also have walker, KDB approaching or hitting 30/31 (I think)...especially with KDB again there will need to be sime succession planning. Cancello looks to have the right back position sewn up (for me he is first choice over walker within the present system as his passing and movement into midfield is so much better - but reduced when he moves over to left back).

Id let Mahrez go (along with Mendy) - he has potentially been making noises about playing time etc - PSG could be a could destination for him and we may get a decent wedge for him

Zincehnko - feel a bit sorry for him...he has gone above and beyond for us but he is never going to get in our midfield as long as foden, KDB, Gundogan and Bernardo are there.

Will there be any high profiels player s moving on?

Decent watch

Good vid

Wouldnt touch Lukaku even though his performances have improved.

Martinez - have always liked the look of him and the one think about him over Haaland is that he is more mobile in terms of being able to ply across the front 3 whereas Haaland is more your typical centre forward.

Malen - never really heard of hi...looks decent (though youtube can do that) but here is a vid of him:

Messi was the closest he ever was to leaving last summer.

We had a plane on stand by and his family's bags were packed.

The only thing which stopped it was the legalities of his contract perception.

I only ever hear things from the City side of things, mate, admittedly, but I'm still sure they retain a decent grasp of how the land lays most of the time, even if they aren't for sharing or briefing off the record steers on a daily basis.

This is the crux of it all in my uneducated opinion. Last summer the club was taken by surprise by the Messi situation but let him lead the discussions. I think that situation hasn’t changed and we have let him know we will build the right package for him - but it is in his hands totally. My perception (and it’s guesswork) is that the club are quietly confident of the deal being done, Laporte promises being the only potential blocker.

As for other signings as you say, city do not talk to anyone about these things and haven’t for years - very professionally done as they do in all of the businesses they own; in fact it’s a mirror image of how they operate in other multi-billion dollar businesses.

Having said that there is definitely a buzz amongst some well placed people that make you think something very positive is happing this summer on a number of fronts.

Sit back, don’t worry and enjoy is what I would suggest, the red top media are not going to be able to stomach this summer I think.

I genuinely don't know about outgoings mate, much as we all have our opinions on who should leave, it easier said than done?

I believe the Club are very happy with how the average age make-up is across the squad, the hard yards have been done.

We have now arrived at a point where we accept there are a couple of positions that cannot be cut corners on.

That means big money, certainly in terms of what we add to the wage bill this summer.

To even envisage we get Messi and Haaland for a total cost of £100m would be enough to make the internet melt down.

I don't see more than two or three coming in, with new deals for people like Foden, Zin and possibly Sergio and Fern.

Martinez looks good on paper until you watch him on a regular basis. Next to Lukaku, looks even weaker. And just signed a new contract or is about to
And he didn't want to know us at one stage when he stupidly thought Barca were going to activate his £110m buyout last July.

I don't consider him good enough for us, anyway.

Two is my guess too, but that’s gonna cost enough - and I think there will be 5 or 6 new deals to extend or reward the players from this year

A club would be getting him at a 'discount' in his own mind, even at the premium needed to be paid this summer.

He sits tight for another 12 months he would be entitled to negotiate for the middle ground between the £65m buyout and his true market value.

It is no concern of Haaland's that ca club now wants to buy him this summer.

He would be well within his right to demand KDB money be factored, not to mention a hefty signing fee.

Marcus Rashford earns £375k a week, these are the numbers people like Haaland will compare himself to.
It was widely reported that Rashfords contract was a 4 year deal at £10.4m a year which equates to £200k a week.

Arguably Haaland deserves to earn more but given that he’d be replacing Aguero who takes home £250k per week obviously the finances are there to make him a very substantial offer.

Sounds about right.

two or 3 incomings would be replacement for Serge (haaland/Martinez), Ferna(???????) plus the icing on the cake (Messi)......Messi takes huge pressure off KDB, Bernardo, Jesus Sterling, foden and Kun...and also interestigly it works the other way......teams wont know who to mark, messi doesnt have to play every game and those others mentioned will work around him and support him.

I wonder where Zinchenko sees his future....will he accept being a left back (potentially a back up one at that)...I do like the lad, he gives everything for the team and for that reason i think he deserves to be playing regularly and in his correct position..he would get in 17-18 other first teams within the premiership on a regular basis. But as Ilky has recently said about he club and how it is set up maybe he is happy at city, learning from the best, being successful and playing a decent part in that.....he seems the unselfish type so maybe with him he is happy being part of a team and its not about the individual like it is with some players.

We have done exceptionally well with Dias (what was he...60m?) - he has saved us a hefty penny instead of going for the other options that were being talked about and is only 23....the other huge bonuses is the turn around in Cancello and Stones,....again saving us even more potentially.

Get it right this summer we are set for another 2-3 seasons until the likes of KDB, Walker need replacing )not sure who else is in that age bracket with them)

that is why am asking can haaland work in this setup because he is the main target for dortmund. its all about hitting him early and finding him and not build up and running off the ball ? its how liverpool play and united also play
they bypass the midfield quickly and the midfield catch up if they lose the ball
We have the greatest manager in world football, he rotates his team, his tactics, his strategy whilst maintaining his objectives and philosophy and he would do exactly the same with this young man. In fact he will go further and adapt and mould Haaland into an even better player who improves our team beyond the sum of the parts - as he has done here and at clubs before.

His basic is £200k but the rest is made up with image rights and an annual 'loyalty' payments of millions each July.

United purposely tried to play down the size of the deal which is funny, as he had them my the balls running down his deal and was already on £150k a week.

They even handed Greenwood £120k this week!!!

I know you are a very respected ITK on here so this post has really caught my interest. Are you saying there is a strong possibility we are getting Haaland and Messi this summer?

pep can manage the squad and rotation but the style is basically the same and i have not seen pep use the style of hitting the front man quick before passing it through midfield, ok ederson can kick it long and open teams up but that is the surprise and a trick we have in the bank ?? but like i said liverpool and united use it in there setup
and the centre backs just hit the strikers or dump it down the channels at every chance

haaland would have to learn a new setup and work and run like he's never done before if he comes to city
am not saying he can not do it but for a big lad its bloody hard work ? ask niall quinn what style of play he would like to be playing each week

i have a feeling city and pep are waiting for messi ? not my choice if truth be told. but pep can do whatever he wants if he keeps picking up silverware ? but if we can get messi on a free. then maybe haaland could not see much playing time at city and go elsewhere
