Wolves (H) Post Match Thread

Wolves sat that deep at times they were in Mary Ds, but they arn't the only team to try that against us and most leave Mary Ds thinking it was a sobering experience.

We knocked it about well, without really penetrating and then with that that VAR and Bernardo miss straight after I feared the curse of the werewolves would strike again. It was probably better if we hadn't scored that disallowed goal as it buoyed them for the 2nd half as I think they would have gone in at HT thinking it could be our night this as things are going our way and they are not really at it tonight.

When they scored I expected them to get a second. It was their first touch in our area and they had scored. t looked typical City of the recent past where profligacy has cost us points.

We are more driven though now and we upped our game and I think we underestimate how draining it must be for sides to be sat in Mary Ds all night chasing, shuffling across, plugging gaps and concentrating on runners. We literally passed them into submission and our pressing was exceptional. You can only really press like that though if you have confidence that your back four will not be exposed and to be fair they rarely were and coped with Traroe well and he has been a bit of a nemesis for us of late.

Plus points. Mahrez was outstanding, but he also impressed with his work rate and pressing, Sterling whilst not bang in form at the moment worked his socks off tracking back and helping out Cancelo.

I thought it was a very professional performance from us where we never hit the heights we are capable off but had more than enough to see them off. Our game management is exceptional and where in the past we could look ragged, now we don't, we always look in control.

The late goals were a product of all the work we had done during the game, we simply swamped them and our pressing so late in the game was magnificent and I think we got our just desserts.

It’s now the end of the short sleeve, which is stupid!

THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS LAPORTE WAS ONSIDE...
EXCEPT A LINESMAN WHO COULDN’T POSSIBLY KNOW AND THAT PISS POOR ON FIELD REF, CRAIG PAWSON, IN A HIDDEN STUDIO WHERE HE CAN BE AN EVEN BIGGER PRICK THAN ON THE PITCH!
He looked a good foot onside to me

Without dwelling on it, the City crowd has always bullied players. Edgehill bore the brunt for a lot of our late 90s failures but so did others like Summerbee and Brannon. It was still happening in the new stadium with Vassell,Mills and McManoman. It still goes on to this day with all the “FFS” references to Mahrez although they are on The internet rather than in the stadium. Maybe it happens at every club and is just part of a fan psychology.
Macmanaman deserved everything he got, joined us to top up his pension fund.

Really impressive how we stepped up a couple of gears in the last 15 mins, the work rate of the whole team is off the scales atm, well done City..

The way this team is grinding down the opposition, all the while conserving energy to go up the gears when needed is outstanding.

Love the ‘it’s boring’ opposition fan brigade. Evidently they have absolutely no clue what they are witnessing.

Bernardo outstanding again for me, he may not be getting as much of the ball as he likes but his work rate is off the scale, the constant harrying and tracking back and tackling is key to how we get the ball back so quick. The whole teams work ethic is unreal, keep this up and who knows what we will end up at the end of the season.

I didn’t realise we were playing the Portuguese national team. I even expected Ronaldo to pop up with a hat trick!

Thought yesterday was one of our better performances, the amount of times we won the ball back from hard work crowding players out was incredible.

I think robbie savage deserves a bit of credit, tone aside, he actually sees things better than many admit.

He called all three onsides righ by eye, before the var screen even came up.

Jesus' first goal i though was offside in play, var checked it (that one wasnt flagged from memory) in the buildup,
and he straight away said ths player on the far left plays it onside at the time of the pass. Jesus second i thought was tight enoigh to be offside, again, he said straight away, his knee is behind the defender. And the Laporte one he called right too, when he said i think the defender's foot plays him onside. Var manipulated the timing and the lines to the nearest pixel to back the linesman (they damn well tried for jesus' second ss well, giving him an extra knee), but credit to him for spotting the detail on first viewing.

amazing win! this was control of a good premier league team for 45 mins, and when we got stuffed over by VAR to kill the game, we had to completely change in the face of a buoyed Wolves team, and we forced our own luck and will on the game, the last 20 mins only had one outcome we were so fierce in attack. Great to see!!

i've noticed this before, Savage has an uncanny eye for offside.

also, after a rocky start to his BT Sport career, he now really likes us.

It was a good game, very enjoyable. First half total control and we really should have scored another. The VAR stuff is nonsensical. There has to be better than the current process. Clear space between attacker and defender? Part of the body that scores the goal onside or offside? That would surely be easy to administer. I thought Mahrez was very good and seemed to add workload to the mesmeric skill set. Kev and Raz better than West Ham. Always annoying to lose a goal to a set piece but I couldn't see much wrong with the defending. Cody did bloody well to get on the end of it and the quality of the ball in was outstanding. The response was incredible and brilliant to see Gabby get a couple.

Every player was at it, very hard to single anyone out as they were all very very good which bodes well.

Impressed as usual by Espirito Santo. Classy guy and very complimentary about the team, the players and Pep.
Traore is a sulky big girls blouse.

Looking forward to 22 in a row on Sunday.

He’s certainly gone up in my estimation. He seems to genuinely enjoy his job, says what he sees without adding boring caveats. That said, he was still a twat of a player though!

The win is all that matters. Good to see we can rally and step it up from a minor setback when needed, we've not had to do that for a while but the 3 late goals shows how we could have won this in the first half had we played at a slightly higher tempo. Now bury the rags and seal the title in style.
Bury the rags, I think quite a lot of them are going into this game already beaten and despite a sustained period of lording it over them that has NEVER happened before.
