TV Series

Just got a dvd of the first season of Carnivàle.
Carnival performers touring America during the Great Depression
Hints of the supernatural

Intriguing premise
Wow, that took me back. I had to Google it but it was released back in 2003 (not sure when it made it to these shores).

We loved it, but sadly it only made it to the 2nd series out of a planned 6, so you are going to be left wanting at the 'end'.

I’ve heard some people rave about it, for me it was just good but nothing like in the same league as a Line of Duty or Unforgotten etc. Too many holes in the script and in the end quite unbelievable
I think the biggest take home was "If you ever find yourself in this situation, keep the circle of trust as small as possible".
Whilst I enjoyed it, and it's one of the few series that gripped me in the first 10 minutes, once he started to involve anyone outside of him and his Son, it was just going to get too complicated and was going down that "Prison Break" route

The thing about 'Your Honor' is that it focuses on the character dynamics of two people and really, only one. In that way, the show suffers, but it does throw in some interesting characters that make defining choices.

It's not supposed to be a thriller, but a character study and a look at Humanity and its limits.

I know if I were the main protagonist, there's not much different I would do, if I were in his shoes.

Just finished “The Man In Room 301”. Finnish drama - not your typical Scandinavia noir in that some of it takes place in Greece and the police don’t feature much. There is a crime and the series plays out over two timelines.

A solid 7/10 but worth a watch - all 6 episodes on iPlayer.

Is anyone else following 'Servant'?

It's the most bizarre show without doing anything too much.

Or so you'd think!

I was going to can it after the first episode of series one but, for some reason, there was an under current that dragged me along and, weirdly, I rather enjoy watching these very dysfunctional people in a highly dysfunctional family on the brink!

I'm none too sure, if I totally get it, even if I think I do!

Weird, but enjoyable...??

One of those where I have to see how it ends but I hate it and can't wait for it to end.
I'm sure though, like the first one, this one will have no real ending.
I said it years ago, and I'll say it again now. M. Night Shyamalan is a ****.
Like Stephen King, I won't waste anymore of my life on these two shitbags.
P.S, the acting is fucking terrible, especially that weasley bloke.

This was brilliant...flawed but wonderful.
Also very dark and genuinely sickly moments.
When it hit the right notes it was up there with Twin Peaks & an utter shame if finished prematurely.

Rupert Grint? Leave our Brit alone!!

I get what you mean about the acting as it's very soap opera, but that's because the show isn't grounded on anything so they, clearly, have to dredge up whatever from wherever!

No inspiration to draw from!

Still, like you say about Shayamalan vehicles, there's enough to keep you seeing what MIGHT happen and, no doubt, be ultimately disappointed!

Right, so for anyone interested 'Falcon and the Winter Soldier' kicks off its run from the 19th on Disney.

I can't remember if 'Loki' is delayed now, as it was due to follow originally, but I think "Black Widow" has been inserted in the middle, so Feige wants to give it some 'breathing room'.

Spooky - just recommended this on the "Top 100 TV Shows" thread - I voted it #8 in my all-time list.

It is utterly superb - fantastic visuals, intriguing characters and a great plot. Hope you enjoy it (I'm sure you'll be ordering the 2nd series soon).

Watched the first episode. Intriguing so far. That kid is right little shit.

That's a recommendation I will be following up on.

Currently two-thirds of the way through Top of the Lake. Never heard of it until a friend suggested I should give it a go. It's well worth seeing.

As pointed out earlier, they only made 2 series out of a planned 6 for Carnivale so don't expect anything close to a conclusion or any sort of answers. It was made around 2003 so there won't be any follow up for it.

I've lost count of how many series we've enjoyed over the years only for the bloody bean counters to cancel the show.

It's 14 years since I've seen it- I've penciled it in for a re-watch in the summer - but I seem to remember that there is a conclusion of sorts at the end of series 2. It's a shame that they didn't make any more but I think there's enough of an ending to make it worth a watch.

The great thing is that as it's so long since I've seen it (I bought it on DVD at the time), I can't remember most of what happened, other than I was enthralled by it, so hopefully rewatching it will be like discovering it all over again.
