Most people are incredibly unadventurous when it comes to holidays and exploring their own country. Same resort, same place, whether Portugal or Blackpool or Ilfracombe or Blakeney, every year.

And that's fine, but they're missing out on untold wonders around the coast and inland. Ramsgate, Ruthin and Rothesay to pick 3 at random.

And you CAN get family rooms around the country for £40 a night in this country if you're not quite so fussy about location.
While walking in the Dales the year after the Tour de France in those parts, I met a couple from Gloucester who professed it was their first visit even tho' they were middle aged. They had been inspired by tv pics of the Tour. I asked if it lived up to there expectations. They said "Well, we have been walking round open mouthed; we didnt know such a place existed."

I’m pretty sure we will look much better than a lot of other countries this summer but EU will gradually get there as supply increases. May 17th is the date set for international travel in our roadmap. But that will not be a free for all and will depend on vaccination status etc and also the Covid state of the individual countries. Travel corridors I’m sure will make a reappearance. No reason to suggest with appropriate caution this can’t be done safely. Nothing is risk free.
May 17th for international travel is most definitely not in the UK roadmap.
There is no mention of it, not a word, largely because no decision is being made until after a committee report on April 12th.

It is mentioned that the earliest international travel could be allowed is 17th May. The travel task force will report back on how that could look on 12th April.

International travel: 17 May

The prime minister signalled that recreational international travel can restart from 17 May at the earliest.
Leisure travel both domestically and internationally has been banned since the start of January. Travel is currently allowed for a tight set of circumstances, including business and for compassionate reasons, and the government has repeatedly warned people that holidays are illegal.
The tentative reopening date follows weeks of speculation from the industry as to when international travel might be allowed again.

Or how about it being mentioned as 17th May in here?

The scant disregard and flippant attitude of some people who dismiss the millions employed in this country and abroad in the tourism industry is sickening.

it’s ok on that high horse all high and mighty saying people should not be having holidays but there are people who’s only income (and who havent received any financial support) and whose lives depend on tourism being allowed to get started again.

Been like that from day one mostly from those who are financially secure and no longer work. At the end of the day everyone has their own interests closest to their hearts, but the way some people have given others abuse because they want their livelihoods to not be affected has shown the worst side of people.

Travel bubbles maybe to countries with high vaccination,uk to Israel or UAE a trip to Abu Dhabi to pay respects to sheikh Mansour

Maybe. There are a hell of a lot of people with holidays booked this year that were rearranged from last year so not sure how they will deal with them it can’t go. It would certainly be a huge blow to the airlines and package holiday companies. However I think we run a tourism defecit of about £3bn a month so economically it makes sense to keep people here and just bail out the industries. Be interesting to see what they do. I think initially they may just kick the can down the road a bit.

There has been no disregard, just a balance made between some peoples financial position and the number of people dying. Not easy decisions, so even if wrong ones made which is opinion. It wasn't made with disregard because some people are alive that may have been dead with more things open.

depends from how many tests I guess but not up hugely.
They never tell us the tests in England at weekends as you know.

It is up 53 v last Saturday.

Does make yesterdays look a bit anomalous.

I do now suspect NW testing may have been under reported yesterday.

But we may never be told.

North West up to 770 today, Double yesterday and biggest regional rise in some time.

Pretty clear now I think there was a problem in the NW reporting.

770 is pretty much on a par with recent totals and still behind Yorkshire on 885 today. In much the same gap as was true until yesterday.

GM Pop Scores will be going up again today I fear to correct from yesterday.

I said this a couple of months ago but when the vaccination programme kicked in and cases were heading down, my only real remaining fear was the dragging of travel bans due to variants.

How can we possibly see return to normal, with regards travel, when so much of the world remains unvaccinated and may never be vaccinated.

With no kids and few family, travel is my absolute passion in life. To be told where and when I can go for years on end will be a real sucker punch. I remain hopeful but it looks like this year could be off, at least.
