A thread about protesters

It's a different story when we go to European away games in places like Madrid where many of us have experienced or seen unprovoked police violence against us. Do people really want our police to behave in that manner with impunity?
No, but it does give us an appreciation of how much more intelligent British policing generally is.

Just been on the police conduct website https://www.policeconduct.gov.uk/ and can’t find anything about it. Where have you seen that?
It was just on Sky News this evening. They had one of the original organisers of the latest protests on and the presenter said “when [exactly what I said] happens, this is not a vigil nor a rightful way to protest, is it?”

She started quoting the dictionary definition of what a vigil is and didn’t really answer his question.

Just dipped in to see what else has happened. Have there been more "protests"? How many do they need to do?

Also, I've not seen any footage, just going off what's been said on here, but if you are going to attack someone who's in full riot gear, you're going to come worse off. The amount of officers injured isn't really proof that their actions were unlawful either.

Personally, I think if a protestor has instigated a physical confrontation with an officer and ended up injured, they need to assess their own decision making before anyone else's. For any cases where an officer has chased someone down randomly and beat them, then yes they should be punished but obviously we can't just take their word for it.

It's so obvious what some of them are doing, refuse to do as your asked, strip yourself off instead and pose for the cameras as they cart you off... Instant twitter outrage.

The first photo is of them pulling her pants up apparently. Yet it's the police who are telling all the porkies and misleading the public? Images are being used out of context, quite deliberately so.

That’s a man. If you have to post nonsense put your glasses on first.

Another protest in Bristol tonight, a lot more peaceful not many cops not riot police about from seeing the live stream. I was out in town today for a long walk, most of the parks and harbourside was full of people enjoying the sun and a few beers so maybe they are knackered and can't be assed with hassle.

Another protest on Saturday the 6th in 2 weeks.

His pants then, what's the difference? Is it not a protester, are there not examples of women stripping off just the same? Is there not a big outrage reaction to the images on that very tweet?

That was actually the reason I thought it was a woman, the comments. The reaction seeking behaviour was the whole point and yet you're arguing semantics. Edited though, happy?

Other that slight error, if you're going to tell me I'm posting nonsense, give your reasoning. Otherwise I'll just assume you're talking nonsense yourself.

As you haven’t seen any footage, perhaps you shouldn’t jump to those conclusions.
So you're saying they were stripped and carted off violently Ric? You've quoted two different posts there btw that tweet is a different dynamic to the first post(which I think was quite fair).

No, I’m disputing your assertion that they stripped off themselves for the cameras and “Twitter outrage”, as you put it.
Well, not to be rude Ric but if they didn't pull their pants down who did? And if they did then why?

Also, clearly who ever posted those pictures in that order(the tweet) was being misleading. So that explains the images being used out of context part.

Apologies for not posting this earlier to explain my reasoning better:

The photographer says it was a young woman and that they stopped to pull their pants up after carrying them away some distance.

The problem with still images with no additional context is you can make them say anything you want. These can either be interpreted as the police commiting a violent sexual assault, helping a naked woman and administering aid, or anything inbetween. It's likely something inbetween but the two extremes seem to be the popular places to hang out at present :-(

I don’t think her pants were pulled down intentionally, it just happened whilst she was being dragged off judging by the video. Again though, I was disputing your view that she had done it herself deliberately to provoke Twitter outrage, which is clearly not true. Watch the footage yourself and you can decide.

I suspect you are spot on there, but the eagerness with which it's seized on in a sort of 'look what the police did' kind of way makes me think if that's as bad as it got then there is really nothing to be outraged about. I'm not sure the tweeters claiming this as 'horrific abuse' are leaving themselves enough spare adjectives to describe stalin, slavery or paedophilia.

Well, ok maybe that is what happened, since people were using the photographers account, I assumed there was no footage. Can't see it in the tweet thread.

Taking your word for that then(unless someone has a link), can we at least agree those that do strip off before confronting the police(and there have been examples), might be doing so for the reason I stated? It does look bad, no matter what happened leading up to it and people are very aware of that(the press included). I didn't just make those comments based on this incident and I'm not saying everyone's at it either.

edit: So was it a man or a woman then?

I was going by the shape of the backside and build but seen the press refer to her as a woman. Managed to find her twitter page but won't post on here to protect her privacy, I'm pretty sure she is a transwoman (at start of transition/ without estrogen HRT) especially as she claims to have been getting abuse from TERFs.

Well that was all besides the point I guess, just wondered why nobody could agree. You've got a keen eye btw. :)

Not seen anyone describe it as “horrific abuse” tbh. Don’t know the full context, but it did look a bit heavy handed from the police imo.

True, but they often are unprovoked twattings for no reason.

The Police watchdog have come out today and said that the Police were politely asking these protesters to move on for over an hour in some instances, with officers reporting they were being shouted at with words like “I hope you get murdered” and to female officers “I hope you get raped”.

Something of course the British Police would never do. Perish the thought.

Incidentally, the inspectors report on the Clapham vigil, inbetween saying British bobbies are wonderful and the best in the world, did say "a more conciliatory response [to the vigil] might have served the force’s interests better." @FT

No shit, you think?
