Messi is the definition of splashing the cash

Huge wages + singing on fee + agent fee. Its not gonna happen either.
I mean we did miss mr piano man but taking gospel off pep’s presser he said maybe we won’t sign a sticker but he never said false no 9.
So it’s happening

I'd love Haaland to come to City but not at any price. It's no coincidence that the clubs that are in the deepest financial shit are the ones that are the most active in the buying frenzy around the latest "generational" talent. It's as though they'll pay any price to prove that they're the most attractive club. Which would be fine if they were also the most successful but they aren't.

We're the best English team of the last decade without paying ridiculously inflated fees for the likes of Di Maria, Martial, Lukaku, Pogba, Maguire, Allison, Van Dyke, Pepe, Kepa, Havertz etc. Barca spend like sailors on shore-leave but aren't better than us. They may get Haaland, but long-term the shit just gets deeper.
I’m going to hazard a guess that Pep is fuming about the Mino/Laporta circus yesterday. I’m certain he still loves that club and will be concerned about the situation there. To be honest, they came across as a bunch of amateurs, very sad what a once great club has been reduced to.

So to sum up basically pep intimated that we wouldn’t be paying 150m for a striker and everyone is in a flap that we are definitely not signing no body and are getting relegated next season. Sounds legit :)
By the way, pep also stated a couple of weeks ago that we were not going to rotate any more this season and promptly made 6,7,8 changes in each of the next 3 games haha

So agent and pops visit all the potential buyers to check out the options. They show what they are doing to create a little extra pressure for all interested parties. Well, big deal. It is just their job ffs. City play down the interest via Pep to counteract the move from the Haaland camp. Well, also big deal. I think it is all just posing. There is a ling time to go until the transfer window opens.

imagine txiki working his ass off and finally brings everyone on the table around 100 mill and pep says “ I don’t want this striker coz blue moon righteous cunts will kill me for saying we don’t money”

Mate, we are the best run football club on the planet. Post COVID many elite level clubs are screwed financially and there’s no way we’re inflating the market by flashing our cash around like some immoral loadsamoney character. If selling clubs are demanding precovid prices for players we’ll walk away and wish them luck. This isn’t a negotiating position, this is a major player in the transfer market laying down a marker and calling for some realism. This is leadership, both moral and practical, and if some other club wants to pay silly money for a striker let them. We have a brilliant manager who has already solved the no Sergio conundrum, Jesus can play there, KDB, Sterling, Foden, and we may even have a certain Argentinian who has played there many times. So chill out, relax, crack open a beer, and celebrate the fact that our club couldn’t be in better hands. In a few weeks we might be winning 1, 2, 3,4 trophies who knows, and we go into next season stronger than ever regardless of any transfer activity.
People need to read this post a few times. The truth is NOBODY except for City can afford 150 mil + 40 mil in wages.
If we pay that in midst of a fucking pandemic where millions of lives and pounds have been lost, there will be questions asked about it. The thing is, when Dortmund say they want that much, they are clearly ONLY talking with City because they are not stupid enough not to know that no club except City has that kind of liquidity. When Raiola goes whoring about looking for a club for Haaland, it's clearly to get into a bidding war with us so he gets paid by both Dortmund and City for his "expert services". When Pep says that they can't afford a striker for the ridiculous sums being linked, he's CLEARLY talking about Haaland (He even mentioned the exact sum (150 mil) afterwards while clarifying with Romano).

Dortmund hold zero cards here, if Haaland says he wants to play for City, they will immediately have to accept the price we are offering for him, else that club will just wait for the release clause (As Pep said when he mentioned that they can easily do with Jesus, Torres and Sterling there. In fact I believe he gave a special mention to Delap before in the conference on purpose ;-) Then they can get Haaland for that release clause the next season). If Haaland says the same thing for another club, we immediately move on to the next target.

With all said and done, I think that the final price for him will be "80-90 mil now + Sancho clause waived + future bonuses". Maybe even less.

Something less direct like ‘maybe we’ll sign someone, maybe we won’t, let’s just see what happens this summer’.

I thought he was already being indirect. If he was direct, he could have just said "Fuck off Dortmund. You're desperate for money and you know it. And Mino can fuck off as well.".

Amazes me these figures flying around when certain clubs in certain countries are still in the grip of a pandemic, who’s to say if they don’t get on top of it they may have to continue without fans another season. Who’s paying for these huge stars then, their debt will only get worse, changes to ffp will benefit us more than anyone. If we don’t get Haaland I’m sure there’s a plan B

Won’t mind if we stick with false 9.

£100m for Haaland includes the bragging rights price.

Haaland is likely a generational talent, 6’4” with strength, pace and sometimes silky moves. Not many player I can think of in the last decade that has all these and a goalscoring record like his.

We’re also not big on tall strikers. We had Edin who in Pep’s new system will be scoring left right and centre.

What we want is a clinical finisher. And we had Tevez, Aguero, a bit of Robinho, that has semblance of that.

Still on two minds if Haaland is worth the £100m and if it is a significant upgrade with what we already have going. Jesus is a good player but he hasn’t been the same since his injury.

I would take the punt with Haaland on £100+m. If it doesn’t work out at least (1) he wont be strengthening a rival team, (2) he can still be sold to the next team who wants him.

We dodged a bullet with Pogba by not going above £56m that was reported of when we walked away. So I have faith in Pep and Txiki to make the best long-term decisions.

One thing I was wary of as soon as it was announced Sergio was leaving was the fact that clubs know we need a striker now and could hold us to ransom. Doesn't mean we will give in or overpay by any means but just might be a stumbling block for us.

Really? We read or hear every other week that utd are signing sancho for 100m and buying someone else for 90m.
No questions from sky or the media if they can afford it, just backslapping and aren't they great the cocks in the tabloids.

Too many reliable people on here (Tolmie, Ahsan, Oli) talking about a big summer to take Pep too literally.
He's being cute and playing the game. Should be interesting.
have a read what you wrote, too many reliable people on bluemoon to believe possible pep the manager of manchester city ? .
we hear about a big summer every season, never really happens.

people go way over the top believing what they want to believe ,

i said on the ferran torres thread i thought maybe he would take the forward role, only my opinion, only a hunch but i saw something in him, a well respected poster @Rascal said he had been told from a relieable person that we werent going to get a cf ,

i hope we get the best man for the job, mbappe, haaland, ings doesnt matter to me , as long as pep is happy with what we start the season with then im happy.

We're City. People need something to get on us.

does he not look stupid though with the whole we can’t afford it comment if the club then spend £100m on a striker? No issue with saying we might not get one but mentioning we couldn’t afford it will seem foolish if/when the club record spend on one?
Yes, I’m sure this will be keeping Pep awake at night
