The Battle of Boundary Park - Good (Bad) Friday 1984

According to that dreadful AI narration of the video just above, it lashed down.
I was at both games at Oldham being spoken about here, and I seem to remember the 'ladder game' with fighting in their end being a warm bright day .... the one where Melrose scored sticks in my mind as being dark and wet, we had about 6 inches of rain water on the bottom terrace steps of the open end ... but it's so long ago, it's hard to say for certain.

I think the only drenching I've had to rival that day at an away game came one Saturday afternoon in a goalless draw at Oxford, where we were in the open end and it rained constantly throughout a goalless draw.

I don't remember it being wet on the Friday game
I think our lot walked it all the way back to Ashton afterwards

The drenching was a 1-0 win when Megson scored
Correct but there was a bigger drenching as well but can't remember which one

I can remember the Megsin one I think being dark late in the game, the other one where it was biblical I walked back to Firewood Park in the daylight with my jeans stuck to my legs.

It’s funny I cant remember the score but I can remember which pair of boxers I had on!!!!

Like wise, had to strip down to my Union Jack boxers on the bus , I was drenched! Thought it ended 1-1????
I think that was the one when it absolutely pissed it down, proper biblical drenching. From memory the weather had been alright, and everyone had t-shirts on. It definitely wasn't the ladders game, or the Megson 1-0 game.

Just checked, and the 1-1 was played in August, so probably confirms that was the game with everyone in t-shirts.

The "battle" was a dry day round about Easter 1984. There was a major downpour in August 87 when we drew 1-1; squelched all the way back to the car. Megson's goal was in a 1-0 win in January 1989 but I don't recall the weather as we went in the main stand.

Went to the one where it started off bright sunshine and about half hour into the game it absolutely pissed down. Started off in Chaddy end in bottom left hand corner as you look out onto the pitch from that end. We scored very early and about 400 or so us started celebrating. We were then taken out of the ground with a promise to put us in away end behind the opposite goal. We were escorted round the ground where hundreds of blues unable to get in joined in the escort. Coppers on horses led the escort and the lead one said to the guy on the turnstile 'weve got 3 to 4 hundred city fans here who have already paid so let them in'. He then turned round to see the escort had grown considerably and said to the turnstile guy 'make that a thousand or so'.

Within minutes of getting back in the weather changed and i remember at ht blues doing slides in the back/top of the terrace.
