Grim press conference, grim headlines, grim leaks.

Been a lot of positivity recently regarding the reopening but that has been heavily tempered by all of that today.

Because not everyone will have had the vaccine. The people refusing are doing so at their own choice but are also affecting things like this for everyone else. Also other countries may still be struggling with Covid as they’ve had even greater refusal to have the vaccine.
But some people refusing it is never going to change. If some cock wazzle doesn’t take it now because he read some shite on Facebook about Bill gates and NWO and all that shite, that won’t change in a years time. We’re never gonna reach a point where everyone has taken the vaccine. On that basis we would have to have restrictions forever as there will always be those idiots that refuse it for non medical reasons. And I’m also appreciative of the fact that international restrictions will be needed for some time, that I can understand. But if the completion of the vaccine rollout doesn’t result in domestic normality then literally nothing will.

Correct and labour mps made a major error extending the emergency powers until October last week. They have zero say on the government rolling out ridiculous measures.

wonder if they did that on purpose to try and maximise vaccine uptake? Agree with you it was far less positive than I had hoped. This won’t be “over” for a year or two will it.

I saw a BBC news report earlier today from Manchester airport and the reporter said that 59 flights were leaving from there today. If each flight has a much lower than normal occupation, say 100 people (a complete guess) per flight, that’s nearly 6000 people today. Where are they going to in a pandemic? Is it all work related? I’ve never really understood why flights in and out of the country continue (albeit at a very much reduced rate) when the biggest danger to us now cases are so low, is that a variant of concern comes back and puts our progress back. What am I missing, can anybody on here shed any light on it?

its bollox it was all crying Matt Hancock saying vaccines are fantastic and this is our way out of it. It’s a huge moment

they are making a lot of people think what is the fucking point. Seriously what is the point of us all getting jabbed spending billions doing it and restrictions all need to stay in for the next two years, or more.

i appreciate it’s not 100% effective to prevent transmission but I thought AZ said it was 100% effective preventing serious illness. Surely that’s enough for people. Those who are jabbed are happy with that aren’t they ? Seems we have switched to a zero Covid strategy despite the seeming success of vaccines.

it’s interesting In the recent press conferences with numbers falling they downplay the success of vaccines and big up the lockdown restrictions.

they need to start selling the success and effectiveness of the vaccines so as people take the things . People won’t bother if you keep telling us get jabbed and restrictions will be with us for years.

he won’t be letting go of these emergency lockdown powers before October will he and I expect he will ask for another 6 months extension.

he said 21 June ALL Covid restrictions will be lifted. What he meant was Yeah but except .......

To your question in bold...
The point is people don’t want to be sharing their space with people who could be carrying a larger viral load or a new variant of Covid that could kill us or someone we love because they haven’t had the vaccine. So we’d rather they weren’t allowed to be around us. As would other countries. Do you think Taiwan would be welcoming to letting Brits into their country if we’ve not had the vaccine? No chance! They’ll quite rightly tell us to get fucked, get real and get the fucking vaccine!

Due to being vaccinated, your immune system doesn’t allow the virus to replicate in large numbers across numerous cells in your respiratory system. Therefore, your viral load will be much lower and your chances of spreading a large viral load to somebody else is greatly reduced.

A lower viral load in someone else gives them a greater chance to fight it off without getting ill. And greatly reduces their chances of becoming seriously ill or dying.

A lower viral load also reduces the risk of the virus mutating because it isn’t allowed to replicate and evolve into a new variant.

Multiply this across the population, and the risk of spread, illness, death and new variants is reduced.

To the rest of your post...
LOL
Only 47% of 65 to 74-year-olds and 26% of over-75s own a smartphone. They risk being discriminated against because they won’t have access to a potential digital vaccine passport. Doesn’t seem like a LOL really.

Goebbels as propagandist, not as Nazi. Other than that, I’m genuinely curious why you support showing your papers to take part in society?
Because the point of a society is to take part in what's best for the majority? Do you support socialised healthcare? Do you support charity?

These things require you to give a little and be unselfish to support others? What are you so afraid of? If you're so introspective and clever why can't you see it from the other side? I don't want to share society with people who belittle progress and advancement. People who perpetuate disease and suffering.

The people refusing on 'civil liberty' grounds are not taking part in society to begin with. They are taking FROM society and only interested in their own selves.

These are my own opinions based on observation and don't include people refusing for medical reasons.

well what about all the millions who have had Covid Or been vaccinated? I don’t see those who have been vaccinated being given the green light to get on with their lives.

doing things for Society by getting jabbed doesn’t seem to give any degree of advantage “papers, or no papers”

my Thoughts following the last two conferences is these restrictions on our liberties are with us for years to come. Vaccine or no vaccine, papers or no papers unfortunately.

A bit flat after that government update Think I'll go to the zoo though..see it they can put me up..

We have a road map to a way out of this, that's what the vaccination is achieving. We have to wait for the whole country to be finished and then the rest of the world.

Why the doom and gloom ? Didn’t he announce we’re all systems go for the current roadmap out of lockdown ?
which seemed unrealistic a couple months ago.
That’s the way I saw it. He defiantly gave the impression that the May easing of restrictions (as well as next Monday’s) should go ahead.

I am not too fussed about the June restrictions. Wearing a mask in a supermarket or getting beer delivered to your table in a Pub / restaurant is not great hardship.

GM Weekly Pop Scores after today:~

Borough / Score Today / Score 7 days ago / up or down wk to wk/ Testing is % of local population who have tested positive for Covid over past year.

As ever with Pop scores going up is bad, going down good - the higher the number the better or worse depending on direction moving. The Pop Score is total cases in past week versus 100,000 POPulation to even out the comparison versus size and expected cases based on numbers living there.

Tameside 77 / 105 / Down 28 Testing positive 8.0%

Rochdale 73 / 99 / Down 26 Testing positive 9.5%

Manchester 70 / 98 / Down 28 Testing positive 9.5%

Bolton 70 / 106 / Down 32 Testing positive 8.9%

Oldham 69 / 115 Down 46 Testing positive 9.6%

Wigan 56 / 88 / Down 32 Testing positive 8.8%

Stockport 56 / 67 / Down 11 Testing positive 7.1%

Salford 55 / 77 / Down 22 Testing positive 8.9%

Bury 54 / 71 / Down 17 Testing positive 9.0%

Trafford 52 / 71/ Down 19 Testing positive 6.9%

As you see everywhere now falling and the gap between top and bottom is as narrow as I ever recall with every borough well below 100 for the first time in 9 months.

Bury loses lead as lowest weekly Pop back to Trafford but with just 4 separating the top 5 low scores - which in weekly pop terms is easily changed in just a day then this lead could now change hands often. And matters less than the fact all GM is doing remarkably similarly and well.

Trafford completes its recent turnaround and the race is back on for all the best of GM records.

Weekly cases:- Bury is up 1 but still leads on 102. Whilst - at 124 Trafford stays second. Salford in third now on 141. Rochdale next on 162 with Oldham 1 behind on 163 and Stockport trailing some way back now on 165. Tameside not far behind on 174. And Wigan sub 200 now on 181.

Outside for now is Bolton but now just on 202 and Manchester who are unlikely to manage sub 200 any time soon given its population but also falling fast at just 385. Which when you remember it was over 3000 in the early autumn shows how far it has fallen to its lowest weekly total since July.

Indeed Manchester was clocking up 385 - its current weekly total - every DAY during autumn/early winter.

defo it’s good , I was and am happy with the lockdown time table unlocking and speed we are going.

however there is a little undercurrent in these conferences recently about ongoing restrictions emphasising the lack of efficacy with the jabs ( as opposed to the success) the need for restrictions, i think they are applying the lube for further lockdowns and restrictions down the line. Obviously I hope I am wrong and as Boris stated 21 June ALL Covid restrictions are lifted and the coming out of lockdown is irreversible.

that would be amazing. However I am not so sure.

I thought the presser was extremely disappointing tonight.
Been looking forward to it for a few days and it was a damp squib with Whitty and Vallance miserable as usual.
So despite the excellent vaccination programme the facts are we will have vaccine passports rammed down our throats and now twice weekly tests may need to be done.
And SAGE now insisting that social distancing and masks could be in place for another year
Call this freedom, it suggests to me that we are in for another few months of shit.
