Dortmund (H) - CL QF | Post-Match Thread

If you think Bellingham fouled ederson you’ve never played football in your life. Absolutely

Can you imagine this place if Foden had ‘scored’ their disallowed goal? Fuck me, @Ric would need a new server. UEFA FIFA FA the lot would be blamed in one massive conspiracy. Corruption!!!! All the usual suspects very quiet on that front. Tonight showed we get just as many shit decisions going our way as anyone else.
It's over move on, think we were due a decision.

Good grief, some here are clearly never happier than when they are given licence to lay the boot in on our own players. All the usual suspects giving it large tonight, over one decision that's gone our way. The same ones who write a player or the manager off early, get proven wrong(twice in Pep's case) and have to choke on their humble pie until they have an off game for their "I told you so" moment. Sad really.

But you suggested he didn't have his studs up. Clearly he did. Anything else is a different argument.
Anyone who lifts their foot off the ground has their studs up...

That "phrasing" is to imply being reckless or intent not simply kicking the ball.

His were "up" as much as Jesus' when he scored the second part Gladbach

We got away with it, no denying it, but fuck 'em. We get shafted every year.

Just don't act like it wasn't a shit decision.

Tired team tonight. Apart from Kev/Foden the players looked mentally exhausted. Internationals and Leicester and no rest since September caught up with us tonight. Same team for next week and we will win by 2 goals.

Far too many players had an off game. Rest them up on sat and go for the kill next Wednesday.
Dortmund were cautious and played a good game. 2nd half we were very close to getting that crucial 2nd goal. Was a bit nervy and tactical. A typical 1st leg.

We won. Advantage now City because they have to come out and have a go.

FFS (not you Mahrez), we won 2-1 against a quality team, probably one of the toughest we will face in the CL, despite not firing on all cylinders and then get to play them away in a ground with no fans......yet.......

....on here's it's like the matchday thread, so much doom and gloom, it's fucking depressing.

We're 2-1 up in the QF of the Champions League, not 4-0 down and next week we'll hopefully reach the Semi's. In Pep we trust.

Remember learning to handle anything is more difficult the first time. Leading after the first leg of a CL 1/4 final is a new sensation for all of us.

I know some people will be annoyed at the away goal, but the way I see it, if we lose on away goals then we deserve to lose, we shouldn't rely on that for extra time or something.

I expect to win or atleast draw them the next game anyways, I don't see Dortmund stopping us from scoring atleast 1 goal when you consider today we could have easily scored 3 or 4 in what was apparentlly not a great performance.

Could of done having a bit of more a cushion but still a decent return on balance of the game. As for the ref it was a rare occurance that we had a decision go in our favour (although it was borderline). Least said about the non penalty (would of been a soft decsion but would of been given domestically to certain teams)

It wasn't the right decision but clearly that example isn't like for like. The player hasn't ended up booting the bottom of Jesus foot because Jesus' foot has come down on top of his.

I'm just surprised some of "the usuals" didn't claim Ederson was a cheat for claiming it hurt because that was what prompted the ref to blow the whistle. He should have waited and referred it to VAR and it would have stood in my opinion.

I’m in 100% agreement with the first part of your post, we would be mounting an insurrection if we’d had that goal disallowed. But, can’t say the second part of your post is accurate.

On second thought I'd actually prefer us playing an English team in these CL knockout games. At least we played our normal style against Liverpool and Spurs. Dortmund would struggle massively to remain in top 8 in PL and we'd brush them aside in that competition but in CL they somehow look like the equal of us and worst we play tactics and lineups we don't normally play 90%. They are not close to us in quality, far from it. Let's just get through the next match and get a decent result. A decent result will see us through. I'm quitely confident will play much better in SF and Finals if we reach there.

Not job done yet but if we can get an all important away goal I can't see us conceding twice.

Great result.

Don't care about their away goal.

We are going to score one at Dortmund anyways, so it makes no difference to me.

Phil unhappy after his goal because he knew he should have scored more, warrior mentality.
Not correct. They win 2-1 means extra time rather than win on away goals

Plenty of people saying they have to come out and go at us in the Second Leg don’t seem to understand European two-legged football!

They need ONE GOAL to advance. They could have scored more than a couple tonight!

I think the return fixture will be a tight game. We need to stop them scoring, whilst trying to score ourselves, while their priority for the first half, possible 60 minutes, is DON’T LET CITY SCORE!

We see this all the time against lower clubs in the PL. They come to the Etihad, play 10-1 and don’t even come out of their shell if we score! Why? Because they know it’s only a 1 goal game and they still have to stop us from scoring for an hour BEFORE THEY CAN TRY TO NICK A GOAL!

It’s a similar set-up here. They know the keys to a victory are two simple things:

1) Stop us from scoring, and
2) Score one goal anytime in the game.

They’re simply looking for a 1-0 or better. WE are the ones who will feel like we need a goal, to even out the away goals and THAT WILL FORCE THEM TO COME OUT in an attempt to get at least two.

If we concede in the first half, they can play 4-5-1 to their hearts content, and we saw how difficult they were to break down.

Grabbing the first goal in the first half is required for a much better chance of getting through.
