If there is one thing the government have got right imo it's the vaccination programme. I think you've got the July vacc date incorrect. It's meant to be "All Adults should have been offered a first dose by July", so using that guide (for 12 weeks later) in theory all second doses should be offered by October. That'd be a nice early Christmas present.

People will be overjoyed when they get that jab and share it on social media. A quarter of "young people" have had jabs but a good deal of those, could be in key-worker roles like NHS, others may have been offered it due to expiring vaccine that HAS to be used up (so 9 times out of 10 this is offered at the Vaccine centre to people assisting vunerable or elderley or people visiting a hospital or centre for other reasons.)

For your holiday, it's likely you'd have had a second jab, so agree with other comment you should wait.

For me, my holiday is a family holiday booked in August for Greece. We won't have had second jab by then, and likely need to pay £120 each for a test. The first jab increases my (and everyone else who has it) chances of not having the virus at the point of test and allowing us a well-earned break!

no mate i don't mean that. I know a lot of people a lot younger than me claiming they are carers and they are not. They are playing the system.

You can't jump the system. Oh...can I have mine early? Do a bit of caring.

If they are carers then they will be Registered. I suspect you spend too much time on social media.
 
I'm just glad I binned my early summer holiday in February (booked originally Xmas 19 then moved from 2020 to 2021). I took the decision to lose my £100 deposit rather than pay it fully in March, have a load of money potentially tide up and/or move it again. £100 paid 18 months ago or have with addons £2K stuck in limbo.....no contest.

With the issues on paying for tests, not really knowing if you'd actually get there, chances of testing positive and being put in a 'cell', quarantine rules that could change in the drop of a hat etc I can do without all the stress. A holiday is supposed to be relaxing not pissing about sorting out tests for the return trip and everything than goes with it.

If I do get abroad this year which seems very unlikely it'll be very last minute, going to miss the sun & friends over there but it is what it is.
 
What is the latest information on travelling abroad or is it still unclear,if you’ve had the vaccine (both jabs) do you still have to have a test before you fly...

I'm afraid this isn't true.

My Sister-in-Law had her jab last week. She's 42. Went on the NHS website and stated that she was a carer for her Father. She isn't. She doesn't even live within 40 miles of her parents.

Still got the jab.
 
Anyone been to Rhodes in late September/early October time?

From what I can gather the weather stays pretty good and consistent throughout most of October, and hotel prices do start to drop off if we were to travel the the 2nd week of October vs the last week of September, but if anyone has any first hand pointers or experiences regarding the weather around this time that would be grand.

I was in Halkidiki 7th to 12th October last year and during the day it was nice and sunny, probably around early 20s on the temp and definitely shorts and t-shirt weather for chilling by the pool, but by evening it was jeans and jumper weather to remain comfortable. I imagine Rhodes will be similar but it is a fair bit further south.

We usually go to Rhodes May & October. Weather is great but can get a bit nippy at night I just stay in shorts but Mrs Moon will cover up in the evening. That side of the Island is quite breezy. Normally stay at a small hotel in Kremasti (more of a local village, sand not fantastic but still quiet and lovely) half way between the airport & Rhodes Town, 10-12 euros by taxi to the hotel/village. It's pleasant enough to explore the Old Town at that time of year, in the middle of summer it's crazy hot in there.

Take in a trip to Symi & the church while there and have a wander upto Filamos Cross as well.
 
You do know that the Autumn wave was mostly Spanish variant brought back from Spain in August/September?

Well it was, and anyone going abroad this summer should be tested within an inch of their lives on their return and quarantined.
Perhaps folks don't learn.

Apart from selfishness had she any other motive?
 
Was thinking of a few days in Gibraltar this summer

All fully vaxxed there so won't be any quarantine at either end.

Maybe Tenerife later in the year if all goes well with Spains roll out
