In the 7 days - Monday to Sunday - immediately prior to schools reopening 5 weeks ago on 8th March, 1480 deaths were reported, giving a 7 day average of 211 per day.

In the 7 days - Monday to Sunday - immediately prior to the big lifting of restrictions today, 251 deaths were reported, giving a 7 day average of 36 per day.

It's data like this that I find incredibly encouraging and makes me optimistic that the next planned big lifting of restrictions in 5 weeks time will see us at a point where single digit daily death figures are a regular occurrence and by then we may even have days where zero deaths are recorded.

Looks like the media are trying to shame people who dare go out shopping and want a bit of normality back in their lives.

I absolutely detest the media in this country.

To be fair they only report on what they know the public will lap up. For some reason the sight of people queuing to get in a shop (usually Primark for some reason) provokes a reaction in people. If people read/watch what they show then they will just continue to do it more.

This is exactly why wearing masks, washing/sanitising hands and surfaces, social distancing, lockdowns, isolating, vaccines, and public compliance to all of these things are so important.

The greater the spread of the virus, the greater the chances of mutation into new variants. The greater number of new variants, the greater risk of more violent strains or variants that break through vaccines.

It’s why I get so angry and rant at the people moaning about their freedoms being taken away or coming out with unfounded bollocks.

All this hard work we’ve done over the last year could easily be undone through the actions of non-complying Covidiots. And we’ve seen so many instances of non-compliance over the last year. Could you imagine switching on the news tomorrow and it saying “there appears to be a new strain of the virus in Britain that is more violent than previous ones and that is bypassing the vaccines that have been developed”?!

Anyone who thinks they know better than the science so don’t wear masks, don’t wash/sanitise hands and surfaces, don’t socially distance, don’t isolate when they should, have broken lockdown rules by gathering in groups or even crowds or even in their thousands at protests, have gathered at other peoples’ homes when they shouldn’t have, thought that going abroad in the last year was a good idea, and anti-vaxxers; all increase the risk of these new variants popping up.

Over the coming months, we all need to be sensible and comply with the rules that are in place. As Jonathan Van-Tam said a few weeks back “Do not wreck this now”!

Research from journey showing residents of a care home died of Covid after 1 dose of Pfizer. The main finding seems to be that both doses are required for high protection from serious infections

MEN on Twitter showing people queuing at Primark

Some of them not social distancing but all have masks on yet they still moan.
Good.

This isn’t over yet just because the numbers are low, the vaccine rollout is good and a few shops are open.

I’d be happy for any **** not doing what they should to have their face in the media. If it was me and I saw myself on the tele doing something I shouldn’t I’d take it as a life lesson.

Social distancing is still a thing.

Not great and I've got no inclination to go shopping in town today but some of those people could be in their own bubbles, most appear to be wearing masks, and it's nowhere near as bad as some of the scenes we saw in parks, Castlefield, etc, when we had that spell of nice weather the other week.

This could be a genuine game changer.

yeah this was been reported around 6 months ago that it was in the works! If all that is reported is true and they probably need a bigger pool of people to get a more accurate output. You be using it for when you fly go to the pub or all places where your inside with lots of people.. one thing though the company will make an absolute fortune from it..

Just my pessimistic side coming out here but the first thing I see on that story is the date. It was released on 15th March. Surely if it was a genuine game changer it would have exploded in terms of its coverage by now?

You'd think, but who knows. Either way, emergency authorisation has been applied for I think.

Wales data:

Compared with last Monday (which was TWO day data) and the last normal Monday 2 wks ago

0 deaths - was 8 (2 days) last week and 1 two wks ago

50 cases - was 189 (2 days) last week and 125 two wks ago

9 in Cardiff and 6 in Flintshire the most.

0.6% positivity - was 0.8%last week and 1.8% two wks ago

50 cases and zero deaths is Sunday data remember so always low.

But this is the lowest I ever recall whilst tracking. And positivity rating falling shows not due to low testing.

Zoe App update:

Predicts 1711 UK cases - down 21 on yesterday

37, 071 symptomatic ongoing cases in UK reported - down 1969 in the day and 16, 316 in the past week

North West up slightly to 16 - 88 still in third place and dark pink on the 4 colour infective zone.

North East and Yorkshire top and the only one in the red zone at 32 to 156.

Most places little change either way from yesterday.

Wales vaccination update:

1, 587, 851 first doses given - 15, 099 today - was 16, 436 yesterday & 7171 last week

528, 199 second doses given - 3022 - was 15, 699 yesterday & 1565 last week

So that is good week to week but not much over half yesterday and a very large fall in second doses.

Which is slightly being hid by claims on line to be the first UK nation to have vaccinated 50% of its population.

But that population is 3.247 million.

So they can only mean 50% of the adult population. As 1.587 is jut below 50% of the total population.

And other nations are over 50% of adult population and have been for a short while.

England is around 56.3 million in total population and has done around 27.2 million of that number so is just under a million short (probably will get there in the next week) but is over 60% of the adult population>

And given that no children anywhere as yet are being part of the vaccination programme that is the only true measure right now.

Uhhh, apparently, you have to leave details when you sit anywhere like the coffee shop outdoor area.

Day 1: They aren't taking any details.

Hmmm.

England hospital deaths - Sunday Data so always the low point.

11 with 2 from North West

Last week was 15 with 2 from North West.
