Pens in a football stadium!

Supporters treated like livestock; a fucking disgusting way to manage human beings!
But football fans behaved like animals, I was at Luton v City, iirc we relegated them and at the end they swarmed the pitch to attack us. Rag's 74 and what about Wigan in the cup 2 seasons ago, why the dibble thought it sensible to face instead of dealing with the 6 fingered pie eaters I don't know. Aguero could have been seriously injured that night.

Absolutely. Imagine even considering that now. I think the agenda in the mid 80s was that football fans were scum to be herded to and from stadia. The agenda of Hillsborough was an easy one to portray in those days, and though they would deny it the images from heysel earlier helped with the demonising and blaming of fans re Hillsborough.

I am frequently astounded and indeed impressed at the inquisitorial capacity of BMooners and the refusal to accept findings, especially what could be suspected as politically motivated.
Oh well.
The Guildford 4, the Birmingham 6, Colin Lattimore, Ronnie Leighton, and Ahmet Salih like this post. ;)

If you behave like animals you get treated like them. A small minority of football fans are fucking dickheads and cannot be trusted to behave in comparison to rugby fans of both codes and pretty much every other sport

Yes, and Cameron will be found to be innocent, Blair was right about about weapons of mass destruction, and the Bloody Sunday inquiry was sound..FFS

And therein lies the fundamental difference between the two red-shirted clubs and their followers.
Rags and dippers believe it’s their right to be successful: probably think it was part of the Magna Carta that they would always be permitted to lord it up over everyone else. That somehow they will always be at the top of the tree, sneering down at everybody else.
As is well documented we (City) went up and down the tables quite regularly long before the Sheik appeared. We know too well the pain and suffering involved in seeing your club relegated, dropping down a league, feeling the real depths of utter despair when you realise that when you see your club‘s fixtures for the next season you’ll be looking up directions to find where the fuck they’re playing. It’s not good.
We were like yourselves, starved of success for so long it seemed that failure was embedded in our DNA, and all the while our loathsome neighbours were picking up trophies, gloating and taking the piss every chance they got.

But the only thing the redshirts do not have is humility, something our two clubs (and many more, it has to be said) do have - in abundance.

Success is nice, but loving the club you support through thick and thin is something that cannot be bought.
Also Everton were denied the opportunity to compete in Europe as a direct result of Heysel.

The steau shout more than anything sums them up. You would think after heysel they would have shown some humility and learned a valuable lesson in that. But no let's take the piss out of Everton by mocking the deaths of another teams fans. I remember being at goodison and they were chanting 2-0 to the murderers. If they do it it's banter - anyone else and they want the book thrown at them.
That banner was fucking disgusting. I know why they're doing it, to take the piss out of us being mad about not qualifying that season, but imagine if Everton fans brought a banner mocking Hillsborough.

'Always the victims' is not about Hillsborough either. Was it us or City fans who started that chant? I can never remember.

What happened at Hillsborough was a tragedy, I don't subscribe to the point of view that Liverpool fans are are entirely innocent. The poor buggers that died probably are, but i've no doubt there was an element of fans outside that arrived late, or didn't have tickets or dare i say have a few cans on the coaches over the Pennines that added to the chaos at the turnstiles outside. The fans amassing at those turnstiles were already creating a dangerous crush, I've read that there were traffic jams getting to the ground and the turnstiles probably were not designed to get people through at speed. Once kick off time gets close the panic to get in increases amongst most crowds . On this day the chaos and threat of crushing outside led to the fateful decision to open the gates. A simple act of closing off the centre pens would have directed the fans to the outer pens but as we all know , this wasn't done. The sheer force of the crowd propelled most down the central tunnel and into the centre pens. Survivors have spoken at length how they were swept away. The actions by the police and authorities afterwards were shameful.
It was common practice in those days to blag your way into a match, either by bribery, climbing over fences or forcing gates open. Liverpool fans are not alone in this, but because they have always had the numbers, it happened more than most. My parents were on the embankment at Burnden Park when a similar crush occurred and i've been in several scary crushes at football grounds, Rugby Internationals and pop concerts. Before all seater stadiums, surging forward after a goal used to be common place, the Kop at Liverpool was one of the most celebrated for it but you had to keep your wits about you. Stadium design, secure entry systems and a much better understanding of crowd flows and behaviour have made things safer for all of us.
You would think after Heysel and Hillsborough, Liverpool would have learnt some lessons, sadly i don't think they have and i don't think the club have gone anywhere near far enough in trying to curb the 'enthusiasm' of their fan base.
I'm claustrophobic. I could never have gone to a match in the olden days because I would have just had panic attacks all the way through. Hillsborough is pure nightmare fuel for me.

I reckon United started that chant.

Took my daughter and son to Oasis at Heaton park a few years ago. We were right at the front. Had to get security to lift them and their respective partners out of the crowd, I'm a fairly big bloke so was able to hold my own in the crowd but they were getting scared. I got out as soon as i could, It doesn't take many people to cause a crush that can kill

I nearly got asphyxiated at a Rammstein gig. I think that's where my phobia comes from. I hate crowds. (If people are wondering how I cope at matches, the answer is 'barely'.)

A banner that should have been taken down by the stewards. It was a massive banner you could see from the Anny Road. They have a committee of such that dictates what banners are allowed ( possibly reclaim the kop). Had we done similar they would have screamed murder( do they use murder in their vocabulary?).
As someone said the victims song was arguably sung by United first. They are the only club that believes it refers to Hillsborough. It was after the evra/suarez incidents and as usual they twisted it to suit their narrative. Same as when city sung the Kiev song and they said it was disrespectful to Sean Cox.

Absolutely excellent post.

Turning a blind eye, is a commonly used phrase at that club.

The club itself is wholly to blame. Look at the coach attack the other night and what happened to our coach a few seasons again.,,these things have a habit of escalating but the club will....turn a blind eye.

Got no issue with that. The journalist writing the piece will be paid, the newspaper publishing the interview will make money so why cant Neal also benefit from it? He says it himself, they want to make money by interviewing me for free

Wrong outlet to try it on with though,
The Guardian/Observer isn't a newspaper known for chequebook journalism and they were consistent loss makers pre-covid.

If he wants to cash in on it then he should go to the red tops. Although there is only one he could realistically sell it to without a huge backlash for obvious reasons.

The club & players had been silent, insincere, denied all responsibility & in fact blamed innocent parties for the deaths of 39 innocent fans. You sort of lose your right to the fee at that moment.
