Irish Current Affairs

Schools back today which should quieten things down a bit

So many polls going about just now ahead of elections in Scotland (and Wales), and I don't usually pay much attention to them.

But I found the responses to two questions interesting, and probably slightly more relevant to recent themes on here than the Scotland thread.

Asked in all 4 nations, less than 25% thought the UK would still exist in the next 10 years. That by far exceeds any nationalist portion in any, really.

The other question was should Scotland get to hold a referendum in this term if a pro independence majority wins the May election. Over 50% said yes UK wide but the individual results are interesting. England and UK overall just over 50%, Scotland around 55%, wales just under 55. Northern Ireland however, a over 65%! I have to say I found that somewhat interesting.

Elections next year. Dup had to make a decision on Arlene. Far too much baggage and she lost touch with normal unionists.

I thought the DUP was formed to break away from them.
DUP doesn’t know what party it is anymore. Arlene had too much baggage at the end and was ousted. The scheming behind the scenes has been going on for weeks.

RHI scandal
Brexit Stance
Backward politics -Abortion Rights, LBGT Rights
Protocol mixed messages

The thing about their absolute right to be British and celebrating 100 years of the NI state, is that Brits in every other country of the empire at one stage or another probably felt the same.
Eventually the colonised country wanted it back and without the military might to enforce control across the world, it being quite expensive to quell dissent, all these countries were eventually given back.

We just happen to be handily close to the British mainland.
Blind unionism should bare in mind though that it may be an inevitability and they too should be planning ahead for representation of their people, where arguably they would have a far greater voice in government than they presently do in Westminster. Simply saying No Never is not responsible representation, in my opinion, but then again, what do I know about Unionism.

Other than it’s hard to leave a union.

What happened in 1367 that he laughs out loud at?
Wasn't that the year the British king tried eradicate Irish history?

Being a Brit I only get taught how wonderful the empire was and the whole world should be bloody grateful. Standard Tory bollocks.

Luckily I have friends who have guided me through a lot I was never taught about.

It hit home a couple of years ago when I went to Dublin with a friend and visited the wax museum which had a whole floor on Irish history. She spent afterwards googling it all.
