Covid and travel discussion

2 weeks in Crackpool it is then...

Nothing better than being sat on the Sea wall staring out at the black Sea eating Fish and Chip, fighting of psychotic Sea Guls, and the Kids saying Daddy what is that Man doing with a Syringe in his arm.

This latest offer appears reasonable from TUI.

The UK's largest holiday company TUI said it's Covid testing package - made up of a lateral flow test and PCR will be available to holiday makers for just £20. For amber countries it will be £50. Tui has partnered with Norwich-based testing firm Chronomics to offer the packages.

Not at all keen on Gib and not a big fan of Malta either although the people are tip top, so that could just leave a few long haul destinations were affordability is the stumbling block. Maybe Portugal can scrape to green at the last minute and that would be nice.

What will be interesting to know is that if you fail the test before coming home will TUI pay for your isolation and return travel. Also will they be including their free Covid cover again.

Not sure how this will work.

Currently you have to attend an appointment at a location. Sending through the post is open to abuse, getting someone already proven to be negative to take the tests for a family for example.

Also a heck of a lot of hoops to jump through.

I can see this postal system grinding to a halt with over subscription, people not getting results in time, missing flights, etc..

Think we will book last minute for September, if anything. We will see how things are then.
Bloody typical that I finally got over my fear of flying only 6 years ago and then THIS happens.

UK seems to be overdoing the whole “abundance of caution” thing, don’t you think?

Show proof of vaccine and you should be golden. If not vaccinated, should simply be restricted from flying. Simples.

I have no problem if the airlines want to force masks at airports or onboard, or even hotels requiring them indoors in public areas, but this whole test & quarantine nonsense doesn’t make sense for vaccinated people.

Is this another case of someone shits their pants and now everyone has to wear a nappy?!

No, it’s your total musinderstanding of why.

You can still catch it if vaccinated. You do know this don't you?

Last minute is gonna be the way forward this summer (or packages where you secure with a small deposit and don't have to pay the balance until close to departure date)

I'd hope that by September the 'green' options will be much more diverse than the slim pickings the government so kindly bestowed on us on Friday.

Obviously it can all change very quickly but the consensus seems to be Greek and Spanish islands will go green sooner rather than later, with Italy and Malta not far behind too.

It could be the back end of summer before we get Turkey and Cyprus though, as they both battle their respective waves and surges.

For those inclined to head further afield, Morocco, some Caribbean islands and possibly America might get the nod at various points over summer. Ditto Thailand.

UAE would likely be green were it not for it's strategic global position. Being such a global hub for all corners of the globe is usually such a good thing but it's really working against them now.

Iceland is now allowing anyone double vaccinated in despite their origin.

I just had a look at a trip to Iceland, just as a theoretical exercise, in July. I'm not double vaccinated so I need a PCR within 3 days of departure (££), a flight and so on, a test on arrival with mandatory quarantine as I'm not vaccinated (who are required to take rest and only wait for result) taking up half the holiday and a PCR (££) by day 2 on arrival back in the UK. Sounds like a lovely relaxing time.

Thanks for this, very informative. I know everything is incredibly hard to predict but I find your posts really useful. Cheers.

Cant think of a nicer place to kick off the 2021 holiday season than an overnighter in the Las Vegas of the North : /
Premier Inn Beach hotel on the 17th for £35 for two people with a double hypnotic bed, sleep guarantee pledge, free parking and a late checkout until midday. Travelodge my arse and we are on a roll !

It’s a wonder you can get out of bed every day! Risk everywhere, both significant and insignificant.

FYI
Will the vaccine protect you?

The COVID-19 vaccine that you have had has been shown to reduce the chance of you suffering from COVID-19 disease. Each vaccine has been tested in more than 20,000 people and many have also been used in many different countries.

It may take a few weeks for your body to build up some protection from the vaccine. Like all medicines, no vaccine is completely effective, so you should continue to take recommended precautions to avoid infection. Some people may still get COVID-19 despite having a vaccination, but this should be less severe.

It is death we are concerned with, right?

Not my worry. You guys enjoy your quarantine and stay safe!

Too bad you can’t all go on your hols to The Crucible, or maybe City can play Chelsea there?

After all, 980 people packed into an INDOOR ARENA for hours is so much safer than, say, 30-40-50% capacity OUTDOORS in a huge stadium, right?

BBC SPORT:

Snooker was the first sport to welcome back a capacity crowd last week as 980 fans attended the final day of the World Snooker Championship at the Crucible as part of the government's pilot scheme.

Very true. We have all been told the virus is easier to catch indoors and they allow a capacity crowd. I have no idea what tests were undergone by the spectators before they were allowed in but I would like to see the effect it had if any.

Three consecutive posts.
With no audience.
Ever felt you are howling at the wind?

Forgive me but I’ll take my advice from scientific experts not an internet no mark.

The fact this thread has had no comment since the announcement yesterday tells you everything you need to know about the announcement. No real change. Portugal and Malta and no where else that you would or could go.
Earliest for next batch is start of June.
Rumours (that have been right so far) is that end of June before usual European hot spots are green. 8 weeks’ to save your business all the travel companies.
Those people running hotels, restaurants, bars, boats, cleaners, cooks, waiters, guides are who I feel most for. Their livelihood depends on it and they have often had zero support from their governments.
Yep totally agree, the govt seem to be penalising people who want a break or completely misunderstanding travel & leisure.
Holidays aside their are people who need to travel to see relatives etc.
The vaccines were meant to give people some sort of freedom, if anything it's more restrictive in parts than last year.
