Coronavirus (2021) thread

I feel with them already voicing concerns about new strains and the fact the government say a 3rd waves deaths and hospitalisations will be dominated by the vaccinated that we will be told we need to wait for a new vaccine that works on new strain and rinse and repeat for a long time
Like I say just my take on it
FWIW my take on it is this. By August every single adult will have been offered a vaccine, all vulnerable and over 50’s will have had both. Not one variant has so far be proven to reduce serious illness and death efficacy at all.
Cases have been at the relatively low level of 2-2500 for two months now after several steps in the roadmap including schools and retail even with SA, Brazil, Kent and now Indian variants. Even in India frontline vaccinated healthcare workers look protected.
Deaths now averaging very low double digit figures. No uptick in deaths even in Bolton.
By September we will have booster jabs including added protection against any variants (as we do with flu every year).
Now doesn’t that sound reasonable, not far fetched and a little bit sunnier?
I’d rather look forward to a brighter few months ahead, perhaps it’s just me.
Great game tonight too huh?

yes that does sound promising and hope it carries on that way

yep nice to get another record under our belts

My lads 19 and 21 are desperate to get back to proper gigs and football in Manchester (as am I, just not quite as desperate) and won't be pleased at a further delay.
Pretty sure all festivals are already sold out

Mine are 21 and 19 and they will be gutted at another wasted summer. And yes, for those who think ‘tough shit’, it does matter. You’re not 19 forever. These are crucial years.

Perhaps the rationale behind this decision?

Maybe the figures for vaccinations in other areas where the Indian variant has established itself but hasn't triggered such a rise in cases aren't worrying the government that much. Similar for hospitalisations in the infected areas.

45, early and loud advocate of all previous lockdowns and precautionary measures. Love the quiet life. Love home life. Love walking and nature.

I'm not even sure I fancy the chances of us, or me, escaping the rise of another variant without picking it up and presumably some more of those lingering problems.

But I've fucking had it. Knackered and bored out of my mind. I need places to be open this summer. Lots of them. All the places.

I'm not 45 forever!

Indeed, it's another possibility.

FWIW, my take from the data and the publications from PHE is that this thing likely is much more transmissible than the 'Kent' variant. My hope is (and it's a hope and not an expectation given my little knowledge on anything science) is that it's

1/ Up against a significantly vaccinated population
2/ Striking in spring/summer and not mid winter so climate could help us until we get the vaccines rolled out

In any case, although the vaccine rollout has been fantastic it seems like we need to hit the accelerator that bit harder if we want to avoid lockdowns/mass hospitalisations/both. It's why I wonder what our stock and supply levels are, this was something which was regularly talked about in government briefings from January- early April time but its all gone quiet in that front. We were regularly informed of dips in supply, orders etc by the media and government but very little of that I've heard lately.

I hope we can accelerate and go that bit quicker than we are now. Again I emphasise this isn't a criticism of what we've done so far, far from it, but we're now up against a new monster.

My take is I’m 50, I’ve had both jabs, and fuck restrictions now. I’ve had enough and need my life back. I’m not arsed about having packed boozers back but I’m not accepting lockdown any more.

edit.... and I should add I’ve had a load of red wine with my mates watching the game round one of their houses, all both jabbed.

It's certainly becoming soul destroying RB. Not sure how much more of this shite I can do either, and I mean that in the least disrespectful way possible but it's bloody hard. Every time we look like getting somewhere it's 2 steps back.

A good night and a good game to watch with your mates.

It was nice and civilised, 6 guys all over 50 having had both jabs. Takeaway curry before the game, few beers and then some nice wine. Felt close to normal. Thoroughly enjoyable game.

On the sombre side, Covid has destroyed our confidence in normality and that’s not right, or good. Watching this thread for news, watching Boris bumbling away. It’s shit and life just can’t be shit any more after such a miserable winter. Better weather hopefully on the way, got to have some joy.

I’m quite surprised at you rammy, we still have to be careful we’ve come along way and there is still uncertainty it’s like your saying I’ve had both my vaccines so fuck those that haven’t. You could still carry it and spread it from what I’ve heard

I’m 34 so not quite in line for my first jab yet let alone my second, but as soon as I’ve had them this will be my take as well.

I’ve had enough of all this shite now. I’ve played by all the rules but I’m not willing to give up my life any longer, they can fuck off as soon as I’ve had the vaccine.

I feel very sorry for people in 20s 30s etc should be having the time of their lives
I'm a miserable 45 yo so I can cope
