Honestly don't think that matters all that much, the fact of the matter is Dortmund is a selling club, and they're not going to seriously stand there and keep him for one extra year at the expense of leaving 40-50 million on the table for a generational talent.

I anticipate these rumors will begin to pick up steam in the next couple of weeks.

They get a guaranteed €40m in tv money. Money that they budget to have every year and would leave a big hole in their budget if they didn't have it.

That changes things.

Which they would then try reclaim in the sale and be really really stubborn.

Like this, they'l just be really stubborn.

If the clause is real, then I wouldn't be surprised if he sits tight for a year. Score a shitload more goals in the Bundesliga and Champions League, make yourself even more valuable. Then get an incredible deal from the club of your choice.

This summer, it's only really us and Chelsea who can afford him. Wait a year for the clause to kick in and suddenly Bayern, Juve, PSG, Inter, Barca, Real, Liverpool, United are all in play.

If he really wants us though, it'll probably have to be this summer. I don't see us in a holding pattern for 12 months waiting on a promise.
What promise

What promise
We only go after players who want to sign for us. In the scenario where he waits a year, I don't see us entering a bidding war, so the only way we sign him is if he only wants us and tells us that. But even in that unlikely scenario, I don't see us risking it and not signing a forward this summer.

Don't get this at all. Sancho leaves and Haaland is like "Yeah, that's cool, I'll stay here another year at this club with limited ambition whilst my best teammates jump ship."

Nah. It's still posturing or bullshit.

Watzke’s word, as has been said multiple times on this thread, means nothing

It's this summer or never imo. If he waits a year to choose from a list of clubs then it's because he doesn't want to come to us imo.

I think if he wants out Dortmund will allow him providing there's a decent offer.

BTW this is based on zero knowledge. Just typing shit cos I'm too tired to make it 20 steps to my bed.

I agree, it will be this summer or never.

It is clear by his actions, he has an affection for us, if we do manage to land the Champs League, who else would he really want to join?

I think unlike most players, his old man has had a clear path that follows an upward progression for him to take, so why not join one of the most successful teams in Europe.

with his agent? whoever is paying the biggest cut!
This is a big misunderstanding about Raiola. People think he just wants to keep switching players from club to club to get the biggest transfer fee, hence the term “bidding war” being thrown around so much. What is at stake here is the player’s brand. The agents know that a player being a winner only enhances the brand and that’s when they make more money — but also the club makes more money. Being a prolific goalscorer at Dortmund can only do so much for him. Him taking that to a team that will win a bigger league and potentially the Champions League, that’s when it will take him to the money-making stardom. Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo and Mbappe are arguably the top 4 superstars in football. They all have top stats and score goals nearly every match. The first three have won the UCL and the last one has won the World Cup as a teenager. Haaland coming to City, becoming our number one goalscorer and titles still coming, given how good our team is, he will join those four easily. Now let’s assume Barcelona can take a miraculous loan to pay for him more than the other clubs. Is it a good deal for him to go there? He will be making a lot of money from wages, sure, but if the club, unable to improve the rest of the team, keeps stuck not winning La Liga and being pathetically eliminated from the UCL year after year, that will have an effect on his brand and, long term, on how much money he will make for himself... and his agent. That is also why Raiola knows the player can’t afford to waste another year stuck at Dortmund, not winning the Bundesliga, not winning the UCL, having limited exposure. But here’s the trick: we also know that. We know we are perhaps the best opportunity for him. So this won’t be a one-sided negotiation

I actually think that it is him and his Dad making the call on where he will go, Raiola is the man to sort out the contract side of things.

He is an advisor. Which rounds up my points above

Is anybody actually genuinely confident we'll get him this Summer?

If you are, why? I need some positivity and optimism for this guy!
