He was no worse than the rest of our attackers last night, but it forced Foden to play centrally which turned out to be a big mistake. Foden would have a field day against Azpilicueta
 
He played because he's the only player in our squad with the instinct and timing to run in behind. We used to have multiple players who would run in behind, and two midfielders whose first instinct was to play through passes into that space.

Sterling and Sané (and Agüero over shorter distances) had the pace and timing to get in behind defenders even when the opposition dropped deep. Didn't matter if they were on their own 18-yard line, David Silva and De Bruyne's passing was so perfectly weighted and the runs so well-timed that we would routinely get to the byline and create chances.

Now we only have De Bruyne who plays the ball through, and only really Sterling who is a natural at making those runs. I think that makes us much easier to play against for a team willing to play a back five with two defensive midfielders in front.
 
If Sterling is holding out for £300k a week or similar to money to KDB then he isnt worth it , and hasnt been all season , i remember a day when players were paid for their contribution and achievements now clubs shit themselves when a player has a couple of years left on his contract and can threaten to run the contract down and move for nothing.
Would offer him same money with incenitives if he doesnt like it let him leave in a couple of years , hopefully a couple of home grown players like Palmer can progress or Torres can improve his consistency.
Loved having Raheem at the club and he has played a big part in our success , but time and players move on , he's a player with a business head there is zero loyalty like the majority of players , if he doesnt want re-sign he can leave with our best wishes because we are not like the Dippers , he will always recieve a warm welcome like most of our heroes from yesteryear.

Where is this £350,000 p/w figure coming from?

That depends though, i heard a rumour yesterday that if Pochettino goes to Madrid he wants Sterling, i think that would suit all parties!
 
Sterling is overpaid already and I'm tired of the club continually rewarding players with new contracts when they don't show a reason for it. He's fine for a backup on rotation, but he's not good enough to be a starter, and his salary should reflect this. If he doesn't like it, then he should be sold. But, believe me, we won't get anywhere near the numbers mentioned because his current salary is already far too high for most teams. We'd end up doing a Hart and giving the player 100% of the sale fee just to offset the drop of wages.

It will be like Rooney's last years at United if that happens, unless we go back to the '17-19 style of football, create 15 chances per game and lots of tap-in opportunities.
 
Only team he’d have a realistic shot of being transferred to is probably Arsenal. Can’t go back to Liverpool, too expensive for Leicester or Spurs, not good enough for Chelsea.
