Chairman's Interview

It was the morning after the game. Feelings about the game would still have been raw.

I have often heard 'weak mindset' being linked to our players over the last decade. Yet we have been the most successful English team during that period and won three very tight PL races. I just cannot buy into that narrative.
Good because I’m not selling it. In general I can’t argue with the trophies won but in certain games like the final if pep has not set us up perfect, the players can at times look fragile. The coming back from 1 goal down stat will to some extent back this up.

We looked inferior as if we don’t belong in a champions league final. The narrative that we don’t have any experience and should be privileged to have finally reached said final Is nonsense.

The club has positioned itself as a juggernaut over the last 10 years but mentally fragile in term if historical European achievements. Pep needs to stop giving the players an excuse not to perform. I said it before- pep is our strongest and weakest link. We needed leaders and fighters on that pitch. I did not see us lay a glove on Chelsea.

The occasion got to them and they could not handle the pressure.

If Khaldoon treated Pep like many fans treat him on here, he wouldn't have stayed beyond the 1st season (16/17). There are some brainless clowns on here.

Absolutely. I’m a big Pep supporter, always have been but he got it wrong against Lyon, he got it wrong against Chelsea. No one’s perfect and I’d rather have Pep than anyone but that doesn’t mean he gets everything right always.

very clever by city tv to hold it in parts again ? money for transfer targets and names being put forward ? maybe on hold until we he somebody in line and done in the pipe line ?

i have a good feeling that city have something BIG happening in the back ground right now and its close
so hold back the 2nd part and keep everybody guessing
every year khaldoons end of season videos are in 3 parts
spread out over a few days

It’s all very samey corporate speak ev

“he’s a great human”

“Some of our best moments were our lowest moments”

Genuinely interested to hear what he has to say about the ESL though

No, no DM was potentially the reason. First time in 60 games he didn’t play with Dinho or Rodri. And it’s in the biggest club match on the planet.

Sterling taking Foden’s space didn’t help though.
Knock on effects - No DM meaning Gundogan pulled out of his more attacking position. Sterling in Foden's position. Why pep would have ever considered anything but the team that beat PSG, Lord only knows?

The tactical mistake that much is being made of by all the football geniuses around the world who write for a living rather than play or manage a football team was only significant in one moment. Even then there were other factors. If we did have a DM like Rodri of Fernandinho they would not have had the pace to track Werners run which opened up the space, Eddy was in no mans land such was the quality of the pass, 2 yards harder Eddy sweeps it up two yards slower the chance never occurs.

You can only pick 11 players, it was decided to play high and wide, unfortunately we came up against two full backs who had brilliant games, Kante snuffed out Kev, Foden was barely in it so the service never materialised. A DM would have made no difference to our attacking. We were up against a side with the best defensive record in the CL and we couldnt create a chance, that was the problem. Yet it could all have been different if Fodens shot was not blocked so brilliantly by Rudiger. It was exceptional defending.

Would playing a DM have given us more control, possibly, but controlling the game without creating does not win you games. It was always going to be tight as both teams defensive records show, Chelsea took their chance our main chance was blocked by Rudiger. That was the difference.

Tuchel has made Chelsea very hard to beat, they are as good a defensive side as you will see, they also have pace on the counter. A DM could have passed the ball all night in triangles with our CBs but it still would not have created anything.
I agree with most of what you say, but I think Fernandhino does set us on the attack much more than he's given credit for by City fans, he picks some passes better than KdB for me, also it would have given Kante some competition, and more to think about.

For all the blame being thrown at Pep, hardly any of our players turned up, whether through nerves, mental fatigue, or even the tactics, we'll never know.

Here's a team with 11 of our best players...do you think it would win?

Foden
Ederson Mahrez Bernardo De Bruyne
Zinchenko Stones Walker
Gundogan DIas Fernandinho
Don't remember Pep putting Foden in goal...

(btw are you seriously suggesting Gündogan playing in a holding role is the same as that nonsense??)

Obviously an exaggeration but the simplistic view of saying only putting in sterling shouldnt upset our team is just as daft. Anyhow, should probably be in the CL post match thread. I'll leave it

Quarters vs Dortmund and semi vs PSG!
