Coronavirus (2021) thread

Portugal now off the Green list. Does that mean covid rates rise in Manchester? Let's hope not, but it looks likely and at the least, possible.

Those of us who were anti-lockdown to begin with brought up the lack of clear defined exit strategy at the time as one of the big reasons you don’t make such a massive decision so rashly. 15 months down the line here we are still in limbo between various states of non-freedom. Said it before on here and think I was probably called Piers Corbyn at the time too but we will have to fight to get our freedoms back. Whether the tipping point is late this summer, autumn or maybe even winter when cases remain low, I’m not sure.

People have allowed this to consume their entire lives. Micro analysing of data, scaremongering. Who for? This is here now. It will never not be here. As the flu is and will return as well. That’s it. Time to open up and forget this ever happened.

Add to that, based on current confirmed case & death ratio (taking into account a 2 week lag) the survival rate is at least 99.65% that’s if we have recorded every single case. When we locked down numbers such as 96% and 97% were being suggested, we are a million miles away from this now.

Whilst I accept that every individual's idea of normal is different, there does seem to be an attitude on here of 'what is there now that you cant do?' Which really means, 'all things I want to do are back so I'm ok'.

I am curious about what people cannot do.

I have heard some laughable ones like three or more families cannot sit inside a restaurant together. Hardly a biggie.

People have also said they don't like booking tables at a boozer. Again, no biggie.

I can understand where business owners stand but not those not financially affected by the pandemic who are incandescent with rage that the date for the removal of restrictions could be moved back two or three weeks.

It’s never going away though.
True. Just seems like an idea to stop travel for a while and not this you can go, oh don't go, oh go, no, yes you can, but then again it might be bad, ok just go, it will be fine, oh wait a minute, no it's fine, oh shit, Lockdown..

Door to door PCR testing where I live today and tomorrow quite intimidating for the children when they turn up at your door , but it’s got to be done . Wish it would of been carried out a lot sooner to be honest.

I don't think people will be incandescent with rage if they say it is moving back 2 or 3 weeks and they guarantee that the threshold of vaccines will be hit at that point and that date is truly set in stone. You know as well as I do that won't be the case.

You clearly don't have an interest in holidays, attending football matches, going to the theatre, going to a nightclub, celebrating someone's birthday in a group or just being able to enjoy a day out somewhere without it being (let's be honest) pretty shit and that's fine for some. Anything you do at the moment, the enjoyment is sapped out of it, for example going to the pub. You can go in as long as there are 6 or less of you, but dare you stand up to talk to someone else or sing along to a tune, you will soon have your fun stopped.

Live music, gigs, festivals, football, nightclubs, parties which involve dancing (weddings/18th/21st), singing in a choir, singing in church. Now a lot of those may not seem important. But for my neighbour, who joined a choir after losing her husband, its something she is desperate to get back. I take my father to church. Its a soulless experience. Go in, wear mask, say a few prayers, leave the building. And families of more than 6 wanting to sit together is important if you want to celebrate. My daughters 18th meal, booked for 20 of us, March 2020, will obviously never happen. 2 of the grandparents have died in the meantime. And my daughter is now 19. But its a perfectly reasonable thing to want more than 6 people round a table.

Scotland

4 deaths - was 0 last week

835 cases - was 464 last week

2,8% positivity - was 1.8% last week

110 patients - down 4 on yesterday - up 17 on last week

8 ventilated - down 2 on yesterday - up 2 on last week

Might explain why some are arguing we might need to wait a week or two.

These numbers are rising fast and we have to be sure they will not explode over the edge out of control by fully opening up i 2 weeks as that could easily translate into NHS pressures even with the lower death rate vaccination will bring.

1% of 10,000 is 100 exactly the same as 10% of 1000.

The oddballs and loners in society have loved seeing everyone else as miserable as they are. And I know that’s the case because I work with one and asked him

You sound a proper covid gimp haha.

Bet you shit your pants if someone comes within a metre of you.
Not at all. Just don’t get down by thinking of the few things we can no longer do and focus on the things we can now do.

It‘s infinitely better than it was 3 months ago and not long now until all restrictions will be lifted.

I look after my 94 year old gran. I pride myself on keeping her safe from this virus. She now is able to go to my family’s other houses and meet with them indoors.

Been to the pub a few times in the past weeks and had some fun catching up with my mates properly.

There is absolutely no point about moaning about things. All it changes is your blood pressure.
