Covid and travel discussion

Government should just cancel all holiday flights so people can get their money and say no holidays abroad this year least we know where we all stand, stop fucking about with this traffic light system.
Or they could just admit that they haven’t a clue what they are doing, that their measures are not effective and let people go about their business.

Given that everybody has to have a test to get back in, what exactly are they worried about (other than they havent thought ahead and got enough staff to man our borders?)

A list as long as your arm of countries where UK citizens are not allowed in by the host country including France Germany USA Canada Sweden Argentina etc etc it’s not just a case of the clowns in charge of this country giving the green light , regardless of what Johnson and co say we are not welcome in countries right across the globe .

Feel for you guys that are far away and haven't seen family for a long time.

We cancelled a stag to Majorca today with pretty much a collective shrug of the shoulders from all involved, which speaks volumes of the importance of a trip like that relative to the situation to some people.

It won't be long, folks. Keep the faith.

Not enough infrastructure to test before or on return. Look at the chaos a few football fans experienced going to the chumps league final.
The chaos at the border it will cause
The lack of follow up to ensure quarantine

It’s a poor show - you’d think that we were a third world country.
I distinctly remember the head of border force appearing in one of the press conferences saying that they were standing ready to do whatever was necessary.

I guess we can add that to the pack of lies that this crowd have spouted for the past 12 months.

If they can’t cope then they should simplify the system, or maybe focus on areas that need better protection, you know, like people waltzing in from India.

It’s like the scene from Airplane where people are walking through with rocket launchers whilst the police are hassling a granny, Except it doesn’t feel so funny now it’s coming true.

EDIT - and given that airlines will be checking that passengers have the correct test results before boarding, you would think that it shouldn’t really be that much of a problem. Except joined-up thinking does seem to be an issue for this government.

Shafted big time..you might be abroad for while, that's where the work will be
I realised a long time ago that this is how it’s going to have to be. I’ve no faith in the UK govt to sort this out
Can't do it, although I get your drift.
I'm one of those people who tends to "stick to the rules."
Lilly doesn't really know me, and is quite shy (hence not liking any face time).
However, when I do get over to see them both we will have a big party ;-) That's something to look forward to, although yes I know it's nowhere near the same as having built that relationship in her first 3 years.
Thanks for your reply, much appreciated x
definately stick to the rules, their is a maximum 10k fine and a 10 year jail term if anyone gets caught telling porkies

I’ve just seen the green list, whoever came up with that that must’ve been rolling around the floor laughing their heads off!!

Falkland Islands, St Helena, south sandwich island haha. I think that’s taking the Mickey to be honest.

You know what pisses me off mostly.
Turkey is a red list country to some countries but not all.
I have Spanish colleagues who can travel backwards and forwards with minimum fuss providing a PCR has come back negative.
Neither of these 2 see each other as red.

The UK has 75% vaccinated it’s adult population but it has Turkey on its red list even though the numbers have dropped again. The numbers were also low after Ramadan a few week ago and Was comparatively less than some countries on amber.

Problem with Turkey is that Istanbul is a major transit hub for flights from all corners of the globe.
This is the same problem facing Dubai and the UAE and the reason why they will likely remain 'red' for the foreseeable future (it's not their rates keeping them in the red zone)

Not that any of it really makes much sense....Malta have a case rate of 5 per 100k, yet remain amber.

Go figure?

It's better than last year when one of the only 5 countries you could arrive from was San Marino.
Trouble is you can't get from San Marino to the UK without setting foot in Italy. And you couldn't come in the UK if you'd been to Italy

There’s loads of choice of Amber countries to go to if you are able to afford to go abroad / have all the tests / self isolate on return.
Makes you wonder what so many folk are moaning about lol - get a grip.

Jet 2 have pushed their reopening of holidays back by a week to 1 July and Turkey to 22 July.

I think Jet2 are being pretty responsible about it all and aren't just jetting off to selected amber destinations like TUI continue to do (thus putting the customer in a potentially tricky scenario).

In truth amber is fucking pointless and just no need for it, causes unnecessary ambiguity and confusion.
Just have green and red.

The government can't even get a simple traffic light system right. Shapps is beyond useless and has a smug face you'd never tire of slapping.

That's the fucking point; the vast majority can't afford all the additional costs for testing and then isolate at home on return.

Grant Piss Flaps is about as useful as a chocolate tea pot - the last time I saw him on the telly he was sat in his house in the middle of 2 Union Jack flags spouting his usual shite and no doubt getting paid over the odds for it.......

Honestly though, how would you get to ( never heard of it before ) South sandwich island?!?!

my guess you would either have to fly to Argentina and get to falklands from there, then maybe a boat down to your holiday destination. It is just an absolute piss take to even mention it

Yes you can.
It’s amber.
