Erling Haaland

They outbid clubs often when they want to. For javi garcia, hernandez etc. But generally they find clever ways of tapping up players to get them at the ends of contracts, or come up with odd loan arrangements.

Javi Martinez and Hernandez were bought via their clauses.

There is no way for tapping up players at the end of contracts - nothing that is a secret of Bayern. There is some players in Germany that are either available by clause or let their contracts run down as nobody the year before wanted to pay the transfer sums called for them (or they wanted to have better deals either going to better clubs or getting hand money and higher wages). It is not just Bayern that takes the chance - other Bundesliga clubs and even EPL clubs or PSG took this road in the past. Usually it is players that are prospects you do not know how capable they are - either bench warmers and in best case they will make a jump ahead. Goretzka did not come as the midfielder he is today - actually I rated Tolisso far higher 3 years ago. But he e.g. made that step last season to a class player. Others like e.g. Rode or Rudy did not. People only see the success stories.

The odd loan arrangements actually are the result of not getting the targets the club wanted - and they are odd as they usually are totally overpriced. Perisic actually was a success story - the one that at the beginning of the fans was seen as worst idea - whereas Coutinho was burning money.

The deal for next season for Haaland is

£65m buyout
120m wages over five years(Aprox)
40m father/agent

overall deal> £225m

Worth it?!

If we get Haaland then we will say bye bye to Delap. Shouldn't we give Delap a chance first? Otherwise why do we have an academy?

We lost Sancho and Braaf, regardless the reasons but I am not ready to lose Delap unless he is really not on the level of Foden and how he broke through to the first team.

So I would go for an older Striker like Kane who can help with the progress of Delap

This is my opinion

Kane ‘if’ he signs would be number one striker for at least 3-4 years, not sure there is any difference at all between Haaland and Kane with regards Delap getting his chance.
He’ll be joining the first team squad next season so he either proves himself or he doesn’t and doubt it’ll make any difference who the player is he’s replacing on the pitch.
‘If’ he’s good enough I doubt he’s gonna hang around for 4 years+ and wait for Kane to retire.
‘If’ Delap ends up being the real deal we’d end up losing out on either Haaland, Kane or Delap cos none of them are gonna want to sit on the bench.

We will only say goodbye to delap if he is not good enough....or he doesnt have the patience to stick around

If either of those are the case then it doesnt matter..

The same could be said with Kane coming as if he does he will be our main striker for the next 4-5 seasons

Depends on your perspective i suppose. The 40m bit feels problematic to me, if these sort of fee's for agents become common place i think it will lead football down a very dodgy path. I think it will encourage the agents to impose their own will more on transfers, rather than be an advisor in a passive manor they will be pushing their own agenda fuelled by personal greed.
If club x told me as an agent id get 40m my previous objective of helping get what my player wants changes instantly to what i want. It is a bad dynamic which these fee's would enable and fuel i think.

I would be happy to have him here but not with that 40m for agents.

Delap simply isn't ready to lead the line for us, we can't continue without a ready made striker I'm afraid. If it is Kane then Delap will stay and learn from him I'd hope while getting game time.

I agree, but if we don't pay insane wages then another club will because the lad has exceptional talent for his age. We need show other clubs who's boss when financial muscles are getting flexed.
And then after his deal expires he will be asking for higher wages, we will just be bullied by riaola, not worth it. If he had a different agent maybe

Saying goodbye to what? a young kid with potential nothing more at this time.

Daily Fail stating Dortmund want 200m Euros for Haaland. I think it’s time to leave this circus and let some other team spunk all their transfer kitty. Transfers are getting insane. I’m hoping our club doesn’t allow itself to get completely mugged off.

He'll be asking before his deal expires, just like every other player. Do you think KdB, Foden, Dias go into a contract extension discussion saying "to be honest, I can't spend what you pay me anyway, so just give me 90% of it"? His agent is a twat, but so are most agents, that's why they're agents making a fortune, as they're good at extracting every last penny. No idea who Kane or Grealish's agent is, but you can guarantee they won't be down a food bank after one of them moves.

I don't like the role agents now have in football and if the clubs want to save money, it should be easy for them all to agree a deal which prevents payments to agents from buying or selling clubs, keeping any transfer money within football for use by the selling club how they see fit. That's a different discussion though and one that can't be done by a single club without missing out on all the top players.
