Unfortunately for Rodri he is suffering from what Jesus did on here. Being compared to a mythical version of a different player.Rodri did succeed in the PL, though. We had won the league by early March. You don't win 21 games in a row (15 in the PL) with many clean sheets in the process despite your DM. That's nonsense. Had the CL final been in February or even in April, Rodri would have started in it. Pep played him more than virtually all other players precisely because he was doing very well. But, arguably, Pep played him more minutes than necessary and he lost form. Even Bernie, who is tireless, lost a bit of form in the last month. It was a huge effort from the lads to go from 12th in November to 14 pts clear by March.
Rodri is the youngest of our midfielders not named Foden. We should replace Ferna and perhaps Gundo, not the players who are on the right side of 30.
The most important game last season and Pep did not trust him to perform. Due to his lack of pace, ability under pressure and his tendency to play back to the defence when we need him moving the ball forward.
You can't beat what doesn't existUnfortunately for Rodri he is suffering from what Jesus did on here. Being compared to a mythical version of a different player.
Rodri gets compared to Fernandinho, which is fair enough. And there are areas where Fernandinho is definitely better than Rodri, fair enough again. Unfortunately, Fernandinho is the best defensive player to ever play in DM. He's also the best attacker to play in DM. He's never missed a tackle, he's never missed an interception (he regularly tops world stats). He's the best at being a metronome, he's the best at long balls, he's the best at dribbling, he's the fastest, the strongest, and got the best leap. We've won every single game Fernandinho ever played, playing brilliantly every time. Every game he hasn't played this season we have noticeably struggled. His leadership is unmatchable. He's like Busquets, Kanté, Touré, Kompany, and Lampard all in one player.
And I mean none of that to knock Fernandinho, who is obviously a club legend. But as long as the mythical version of him exists Rodri doesn't stand a chance. Rodri gave the ball away in a meaningless game against Chelsea? Fernandinho would never do that in an important game (like Newcastle away 2019). Rodri passes sideways? Fernandinho would never be caught doing that (does it all the time).
The irony of all this is that the next time Fernandinho has a less than perfect game it's going to be the same people saying he's too old as the ones lazily critiquing Rodri.
Only if you believe the toothless grey skeletons begging for spice money in Piccadilly Gardens go home to a penthouse apartment in the Deansgate TowersSo is there any truth in these reports that Barca are trying to tap up half our squad?
If we had prime fern there is not a chance pep leaves him out. The normal system failed because we don’t have the right players to combat the Chelsea counter. The previous encounters with Chelsea put that little doubt in peps mind. He knew Rodri would be ambushed by kante and Jorginho. Not this nonsense again.
Its not about trust. Pep trusted him to play 50+ games last season.
He has literally spelled it out for you. He wanted another attacking player instead of a defensive midfielder.
It doesn't matter who our defensive midfielder was, Rodri, Fernandinho, whichever shiny new toy you want us to buy, whatever mythical legend of the game you think was the best DM ever.....he wanted another attacking player to break Chelsea down.
Its funny how no one making the stupid trust argument ever says, "pep doesn't trust fernandinho to play the most important game of the season, let him go".
Stop pretending its about trust when it was a tactical decision to go all out attack because our normal system had failed to break Chelsea down with 5 attacking players.
Yes, they should not answer the phone when the current UCL winner coach calls them. Very wise decision of a player planning for his future, who totally shouldn’t listen to everybody before making a decision. So Alfie is hawking Erling around Europe for the biggest pay day...shocked :)
Agents and Dortmund want a bidding war.
Rodri does not have the same weapons available as Fernandinho. The essential elements we need for a dm to succeed are: pace, power, positional awareness, passing ability, reading of the game, composure.Unfortunately for Rodri he is suffering from what Jesus did on here. Being compared to a mythical version of a different player.
