Expectations - 2021/22

I agree but I happen to think that these players are ready - they are the standouts in a team that has strolled the U23 championship. You will note that I am talking about playing one per game with one as sub and I would like us to do it. There is something magical about bringing people through and these guys have serious quality, in my view.
The youth teams are a world away from the first team squad, Palmer looks special and I do think he could be the next one but the others will have to step up a hell of a lot to even remotely have a chance.

Of course, you are right, but give them a go, one per game. I have a feeling that it is going to happen, this year: the quality is too high to deny and it is also the fruition of the academy investment - 10 years since the investment in the Academy really started.

It does not work like that.

One game could be the difference from winning the title or losing it.

We have to be on our game from the very first whistle in the first game next season, it won't be the same as last season.

Last year we did not turn up until November and still won the title easily, not this coming season.

My hopes:

a full and loud Etihad
a competitive squad
if we win brilliant, if we lose its because we have been beaten by a better team, not because we failed to turn up.
a top striker to replace Sergio
Fern for another season
testimonials for Dave and Sergio.

thats it.

We both want success for the team, it's just that I want to see a couple of young 'uns given their head. Best wishes, Blue.

What is your expectations for next season?

We will battle for 5 silverwares next season. I think we MUST retain the premier league. Winning Community Shield is not a hard job. So winning that is another priority.
From the remaining 3 cups I think we have the capability to win 2 of them. But if we win 1 cup is enough for me.
In Uefa champions league, WE MUST reach semi-final at least.
I expect us to compete to our maximum in all competitions as usual.

However we don't have to 'MUST' win anything (especially the bloody Community Shield) or 'MUST' reach the CL semi. You sound like a journalist trying to set us up for a "City had a failure of a season" headline.

Just enjoy the ride.

I would really like us to properly phase in Palmer, Delap, Lavia, Doyle, and McAtee and accept that this is a season of change, where a key strategy is to create and solidify the role of the Academy. I think those players are strong enough to be played, one per game (plus one as sub) so that overall performance is relatively unaffected.
Not a chance of 1 playing per game but at least some of those named will be getting games. Everybody has to be as patient as they were with Foden. That didn't work out too bad did it?

I expect us to compete and at least come close in both the Premier League title race and the champions league.

If we win 1 of the domestic cups and compete in the other two I've mentioned whilst playing an attacking brand of football I'll still be very happy.
If we win either the Premier League or champions league it's a fantastic season. Just like the last one.

The covid crisis will have damaged the majority of clubs, widening the gulf between those struggling and those not. This will be like the early prem days when a couple of clubs plundered the sky bounty. I imagine a straight race between us and CFC, for domestic trophies, Europe will be without the two Spanish perennial giants, BM and AM will likely fill the gap, but again the gap will be wider between haves and have-nots. Over two legs we should make at least the semi's, and every chance of winning it. Given the quality of players likely to come on the market, the likely-hood of the EDS lads getting a chance seems bleak,
My crystal ball is full of clouds, so guessing is all that's left....

I expect a transition season. If rumours are to be believed, there could be quite a few ins and outs.

Think Chelsea will win the league.

Can see us winning the CL and probably the Carabao again.

What and why?

When and IF they are ready they will get their chance just like Foden.
If we buy in more players then their chance further recedes.

Imo, a youth player getting a game with the stars, will in general raise his game and will not hinder the first team in the slightest.

I will use Bellingham as an example, he would not have been promoted out of the EDS at 17yo and given a game for us this season, yet that same player really ran us off our feet in the quarter final of the chumps league and has now made his England debut.

If City do not show that there is a chance of progressing to the firsts then more and more of these potential future stars will leave us.

Maybe it is time to have 3 or 4 to start in the league cup and if they do happen to reach the final let them play in it.

Just an example

Steffan
Wilson-Esbrand/Walker/Cancello
THB if not sent out on loan again/Stones/Dias
Ake/Laporte
Mendy/Dionkou

Doyle/Lavia
Gundy/KDB
Foden/Silva

Sterling/Mahrez/Torres
Delap/Nmecha if not sold (I'd like to see him given a go tbh)/Torres
Palmer/Jesus

With the added effect of resting first-team players on rotation, don't get me wrong I love winning the league cup, I'm from an era that was desperate to see us lift anything and would gladly lift the LC every season, I just think we could tweak the team a little in favour of youth, not like LFC who throw their games but enough to remain competitive.

Definitely not. I would like to see it though, even if it begins with one plus one in each cup game only.

There is some uncertainty about the squad for next season. I'll set the expectations after our transfers are done.
