Seems the Spanish papers are running with headlines like 'Messi's last day' and 'Tonight he is free'.

There is a subtext that the expectation is there that he will sign a new deal but still issues to resolve.

Some pretty big and bold headlines though. Might be a few twitchy cule-holes today.

Must be a good feeling for him to be a free man. So many options and possibilities he could stay, go. I don't think he is totally against testing himself somewhere else at the highest level, he will always have his Barca memories no matter what.

I still think it’s impossible for City to have been talking recently to Messi’s entourage without a single leak, rumour, even a left field one..

Messi probably wants to stay sign a new contract but Barcelona can’t sign him because of the money situation so Messi is waiting for Barcelona to sort out there Financing if they can? Could be a long wait for Messi..
He will be going without wages till it's signed

I think it is possible. Might not be likely, but I do think it is quite possible.

As does Bernardo Silva.

It is 3.20 in Barcelona, approaching Siesta time.

I think if this was close or actively being worked on, we would surely be hearing 'it is close' from within the club, or at least see some build-up and excitement around the club and fan base to make a bit of a PR meal of it all, as they like to do?

Tolmie seems to be excited about something big in the other thread, also there was talk on here a month ago about city being like Christmas with something big happening.

Messi in our team would be unfair 211 goals in 219 appearances under Pep at Barca. Imagine him here

They've already said though, that they're comfortable with his contract running out as they're still in talks.
