Good watch brands

I’ve not worn a watch for 40+ years, as I hate the feel of them on my wrist. As a consequence, I think spending more than ten quid on a watch is absolute insanity.
watchwankersoftheweb is worth a follow on Twitter.

Diver
- JLC (Polaris)
- Rolex (Submariner)
- Tudor (Pelagos/Black Bay)
- Omega (Planet Ocean/Seamaster)
- Breitling (Superocean Heritage)
- Muhle Glashutte (Sea Timer)
- Sinn (U1)

Chrono
- AP (Royal Oak)
- PP (Nautilus)

- Rolex (Daytona)
- Zenith (Chronomaster)
- IWC (Portuguese/Pilot)
- Omega (Speedy)
- TAG (Carrera/Monaco)

A few for you to google (I'm sure I've missed something obvious out), good luck in your choice.
I do love a Tag Carrera

So I am planning to buy a watch within a 10k budget. Looked at Patek Philippe and they are expensive as fuck.

Any suggestions?
Have a look on YouTube, loads of watch review accounts on there. The Urban Gentry is a good one, loads of recommendations at different price points and styles eg dress watches, divers etc and in different styles and unlike some, he is independent and isn’t affiliated to a particular dealer.
At the price point you are talking about I would be looking at an investment piece. Some watches can appreciate in value significantly, even pre-owned. The trick is guessing which ones

My advice is to go onto askmen and read the watch snob and learn about watches..so much depends on what you want..the size of your wrist, your interest in the mechanism, appearance, and need to retain value to name but a few. A submariner is a great all round buy.

My old Citizen threw in the towel, so I'm now wearing one of these.....

€60 on Ebay. Changed the horrible resin strap for a jetson one from Barton for around €20. Accurate to within a couple of seconds a month. Not particularly ugly, in my opinion. Even if I won the lottery, I just couldn't imagine shelling out serious money on a watch.

If you're going to spend ludicrous amounts for something that just tells the time you're not seriously thinking of wearing it anywhere?
An investment opportunity perhaps but why spend 10k on a watch,to go diving, who the fucks gonna see it,nemo?
And what if you damage it,diving, sailing, whatever.

Great watch. I was going to get one a few years back. No longer available last time I looked. There's so much bull talked about watches. I have my dad's 60's Seamaster and a Maurice Lacroix but my work watch is a Casio. If you like it, wear it.

Waste of money unless you buy one which you are going to keep for a long time and has some rarity. I have a fairly pricey watch and never wear it as I’m too frightened of it getting damaged or some scrote wanting to nick it. Buy yourself a Seiko, it will last forever and you can spend your money on something you will actually use.

A consummate professional plying her trade for the good of all mankind. One of my favourite flight videos stored to bookmark and a little overcooked but stay with it. Every time I see a pilot I bend of the knee and is it any wonder we all clap when they land. Articulate beyond belief and my dream job if ever I was clever enough.

I wonder why you have that video bookmarked?

I’d forget any Rolex models unless you want a bi metal date just as ALL gents stainless steel models (sorry ,’oystersteel’) are unavailable to walk in customers.
You’ll be waiting up to a year for a steel date just and without a significant (20k plus) purchase history from an AD you simply will not get a sports model (submariner, gmt II, air king etc).

Spend £4550 on an omega seamaster 300m (google it) and save the remaining 5k.
It’s a true wear anywhere watch, with probably the best movement of any watch below Patek.
You will not regret it not fair warning when you’ve had one you’ll find yourself wanting another in a year or two.
I’m lusting after a new planet ocean or aqua terra at the moment.
Trying very hard to resist.

I'm lusting after this Irish girl who's just walked past me and the thought of my missus cutting my bollocks off has made it dead easy to resist.

Think she had a swatch on, just to keep it on topic...

To be honest, the fact you need to ask what watch with a 10k budget means you don't need a 10k watch.
There are loads a reasons why people buy expensive watches, but spending that much without knowledge of why is a good reason not to waste your money...

The Casio Duro is a cult classic. Fantastic watch for the money.
