Just do I understand where we are, Sterling is world class, Player of the Tournament, the Second Coming of Jesus Christ himself in some circles and can do no wrong, BUT it would be heresy to suggest he should be a big boy and step up for a free shot on goal from 12 yards out, with just the keeper to beat?

And people wonder why some of us decry the “awesomeness” of “our Raz”?!

Err, OK. Carry on.
Messi the greatest to ever walk the planet, he misses from 12 yards plenty of times. It doesn't matter who you are.

No he shouldn’t have put ,Sako, and maybe Sancho, but I thought Sancho would score, ahead of him. Sterling still wouldn’t have made my 5 though, even without them 2.
I agree, but I'm thinking that Sako and possibly Sancho shouldn't have been in the top 5 regardless of whether Sterling was or not.

I think part of the problem is we're not teaching our players to be tough enough, the winning mentality etc. so they're nervous before they start. Tell them we're better than Italy, tell them we're going to score our penalties, sick of all this "oh it's going to be a tough match, they haven't lost for 100 years" shit.

I just felt all week that the longer the week went on the more we were bottling it as usual.

The strongest players crumble at times under the weight of a high pressure penalty. A 19 year old kid sometimes can be cooler than an old head. It's a lottery but once chosen be most have said be was fine with it. The big problem is the abuse the morons give those who miss. Stop that and players will relax more and probably score more too.
Unfortunately, morons will be morons. We‘ve had someone on here blame rags for losing us the tournament.

No player should be blamed for missing a penalty.

This scientic driven analysis would agree:

F knows if it is right or not

True, but there's something wrong for us to keep blowing it every time. The mentality has to change and Southall was never the one to do it.

There's always some excuse, but look at the last World Cup semi. It was Croatia FFS, population about the same as Greater Manchester. And that was another one where we took an early lead and didn't build on it if I remember correctly.

Just watched Granada Reports and they had a reporter at some venue showing the game.
One bloke they interviewed said he had a bit of Italian in him and the woman with him said "No you havent..."
The bloke was about to continue when the woman added "do you mean that pizza you had last night?"
Made me laugh

you are fucking clueless .

Hands up all those who had Maguire on their list of penalty takers!

Seeing none…

Hands up all those people who believe they saw a better penalty than that taken by Maguire in a Euro Final Penalty Shoot Out.

Seeing none…

Hands up all those who believe THE MANAGER should TELL players they’re taking a penalty, not the PLAYER volunteer to be one of the first 5 penalty takers.

Seeing none…

WTF was Southgate thinking?

Me too , they have issues

They hate Sterling no matter what he does and laughingly in this case for something he DIDN'T do. The hatred towards him borders on the Pathological. I something wonder if they actually support City at all, or go to the games. Nobody having watched the lad take penalties would think choosing him to take one was a good idea, nobody

We surely aren’t blaming Neville Southall now are we ;)

To be honest, this loss (for me anyway) was nowhere near as bad as the bleeding "hand of God" in 1986 or the semi final loss in Italia 90.
That England team in 1990 was class.

Maguire scored his penalty. The manager based his decision on seeing the players first hand, talking to them and assessing their mental strength and skill to do so, something he is privy too and we're not. You can guarantee that not one player took one against his will. Now why don't you give it up, you're fucking boring.
