Running thread

Sure, will give that a try.

Its going to be trail/over road run aswell.

Just hope i haven't commited to something il regret.

Only race i have come across so far where they won't allow headphones

I love my headphones, but for a race - they're a hindrance, you'll do better without them.

take it easy. you'll be fine.

I suppose I subscribe towards the practices of Richard Askwith. I never listen to music whilst running or have used a heart rate monitor. I only got a smart phone about a year ago and joined strava for the first time a bit later.

I don't do bare foot running though.

he's crazy

Hard going with the running atm. Always been a 7am runner doing at least 5k and 10k seperate runs a week), but during pandemic and WFH, I've gone for afternoon runs and the temp differnence is killing me. Stopped at 6k in 23C heat last week as I felt unwell. Glad I've experienced that rather than pick a Manchester 10k event and get a nasty surprise. I love the cold temps and upto 15c, then I'm not a fan.

I
that’s a quick pace

Id recommended your first 5 miles to go between 9:30/10 pace.
Then hit 9 pace for a few miles.
Then see what you got left in the tank
I aim for 8’s then see whether I can push the final 5k in 7:30’s PB OF 1:37 was tough that day but drizzled all the race so was pleasant and didn’t over heat.

Blackpool music run this Sunday, 10k, just hoping to be under 48 minutes this time, would love 45 but Achilles and calf have been trouble lately so not really going to push it.

I've had this a few times. It always coincides with a new pair of footy boots. If I go back to using my old ones again, it disappears quite quickly. This also confirms it was the new boots causing the problem.

For this reason, I always stick with Nike football boots. Anything other - especially Adidas - gives me achilles tendonitis again.

I've never had this after a change in running shoes - maybe because the heel cushioning is better.
Just had a new pair of Nike Astro trainers delivered ahead of coming out of isolation and playing for first time in a couple of weeks tomorrow evening, let’s hope they do the trick! Couldn’t not see if it’s the cure after your post.

Good luck with it. Hopefully everything will work out for you.

I've just seen this, it anyone fancies it.

Hi,
I am a research assistant working on behalf of Dr George Ampat an orthopaedic consultant surgeon based in Ainsdale, Southport.
We are conducting a clinical research study specifically around Runners and the use of orthotics and the effects they have. The research we are conducting aims to look at the use of orthotics (insoles) and how they can be used to cushion the feet from the harsh forces they are exposed to when running.
The research will identify whether orthotics can be beneficial to runners and have an impact on running related injuries
To qualify and participate in this study we are looking for:
- Runners aged 18 or over who have experience of running at least 5k in the last year.
- Not currently using prescription orthotics.
You cannot participate in the study if any of the following apply to you:
1. Are currently using prescription Orthotics.
2. Have any ongoing pain or deformity in the foot.
3. Suffer from a serious health condition which has led to a doctor advising you not to exercise.
4. Have undergone any surgery in the last 6 months.
5. Have ever undergone any surgery on a foot.
Participation in the study will last 8-weeks during which you will be required to provide data at least 10 times by filling in a short survey after every run you do, either on paper or online. Once a week we will also ask you to report any injuries that you might have sustained as a result of running.
For your participation, You will also receive a token of our appreciation to reimburse you for your time and effort after completing the full study.
If you have any members in the running club who would like to take part in this clinical trial then could you please email any of the following.
adam@ampat.co.uk
ellie@ampat.co.uk
We appreciate your time for reading this and we hope to have a few of your runners on board for the clinical trial.
Thank you.
