I am not sure on the date either but l do remember lots of posters on here and elsewhere saying how good he was and we should sign him. All because he was faster than Demichelis who was not far short of being twice his age.

More likely he told MU that it should be done in March so he'd recover for the Euros, or be after the Euros and he'd miss some of next season. They're the ones who pay him.

It's been known for months that he had a shoulder injury, so England would have known and judged him fit enough. It may also have fed into why he wasn't in a starting line-up.

Remember an Aussie saying that when Phelan was coaching down there he was the only one who wanted to sign Usain Bolt. The players thought it was a joke but he was deadly serious.

I don't see why not. Someone who can run very fast but can't kick the ball straight - there is a precedent.
