Afghanistan

Alexander the Great conquered Afghanistan in the 4thC B.C. He was the last to achieve that feat. When UK invaded in 19thC, the British army was all but wiped out.
A small British army - mostly Indian soldiers. The Afghans got enough of a kicking trying to raid the British Raj it should be pointed out.

On the plus side if your an opium junkey the prices will be coming down soon. For the rest of us more drug addiction and all the social problems it causes.

Its in todays papers if you care to read them.
Wait, did he announced his plan today, or is it being reported that he had a plan which he'd previously announced because I don't recall one?

Unless it's one of his 'super smart' plans that only he knew about and he been waiting until now to reveal it so that it had maximum negative impact on Biden...

You would have thought the "Free World" would have learned from their mistakes in Korea and Vietnam, but they haven't.
But they have learnt... that's actually what they "the Free World" wanted... for the US that was never an objective they don't want to win they never ever have post WWII and care little for doing so, it's all about the military-industrial complex creating big fat contracts, multiple billion to trillion dollar contracts as far as the eye can see, all to fund the economy and more importantly the greedy fatcats who churn out weapons in the war factories, to the dealings of those bureaucrats in Congress and of course show how mightily strong the good ol' USofA are.

If it was for anything else they'd have sorted Somalia out years ago but they thought fuck that! More trouble than it's worth If they cared they'd have gone to Congo during the civil war or Eritrea or other majorly fucked up places in the past... They chose easy places small countries sparsely populated areas that won't actually really cost them much to quickly overrun, where they can easily set up shop and hand out those nice and tasty trillion dollar military contracts.
The ones who were in power during the Vietnam war (which was actually created by a false flag attack in the gulf of Tonkin) it was all about the military-industrial complex, that and the Korean war which both the US and Soviet leaders split for an ego drive against one another, just like the space race there was loads of dick waving involved by the big powerful countries... The military-industrial complex is dick waving but mainly all about one thing the money! If for one moment anyone thinks otherwise and that these wars are entered with the kindness their hearts being in the right place, then they need give their head a shake and realise those in power in America couldn't give a toss about their own soldiers or civilians loss of life during these conflicts.

More wars means bigger military budgets in America which means more money they can print and tax the people for, they hide it behind fake pride and fighting for what's right but they genuinely couldn't give a shit about us normies or the places they invade... They'll be happy the Taliban are back deep down as it was getting harder to drill up support for those billion dollar contracts, the Taliban know their place now and they're happy to strangle only Afghanistan and farm opium and America couldn't care less.

Oh and Korea is seen as a minor success with how South Korea has grown with American backing, then looking at how much of a shithole North Korea has become with Soviet backing... They don't care about Nam as it earned those in power lots of money behind the scenes.

Nearly every war in the modern ages are fought not for glory or righteous reasons nor against the tyranny of oppression but for actual means of making money or other resources, give it a decade or just a few years if that and the good ol' USofA will be invading another place they know they can't or aren't willing to take over properly... If there's any natural resources in the background too like Iraq and Afghanistan or Libya they'll try and take them as well.

Whether or not we think it's right or wrong there's far worse things happening in the world than what's happening in Afghanistan, and the Yanks steer well clear from those conflicts as it's not worth it in the military-industrial complex like Iraq and Afghanistan has been for them.

One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter and the Taliban will somehow and sadly have plenty of sympathy from every day Afghans, the types who won't have welcomed us or the yanks interfering with their every day lives will see us as the oppressor's.

I feel sorry for the Afghan people who hoped of change and the women too, who's rights will be immediately taken back regardless of what the Talitubbies promise in being more progressive, it should make us all thankful we're in a better country one without stone age ideas... Where we live might not be perfect but don't ever take your freedom and rights for granted cos the powers that be they'll take them if you aren't careful.

Do you think the Taliban were interested in compromise?

Yes, that is a matter of record and 2 decades of reporting. The Taliban repeatedly tried to come to a negotiated surrender, beginning with their offer to turn over Bin Laden before the invasion in 2001, but the US insisted on total defeat. This isn't a matter of opinion, it's a matter of record. Sorry.

Just one example on this, from Spencer Ackerman, who is an American national security journalist who has won the Pulitzer Prize. https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-a...een-had-many-years-and-thousands-of-lives-ago

No need to be insulting, I am smoking nothing.

I as are many people, am simply struggling to understand the reasoning behind the chaotic military pull out.

So i am assuming rightly ,or possibly wrongly there is more going on here geopolitically than meets the Eye.

"100% certain" your first post said.

Now "possibly wrongly".

There is a need to be insulting when someone's being an absolute fantasist about something really serious.

IMO diatribes like this fall flat when you start sentence one with an exaggeration like "trillion dollar contracts", don't appear to know how much of the military's annual budget is for procurement vs. things like healthcare for soldiers or military housing, don't seem to understand that a majority of Americans want to cut back overseas defense exposure, or appear to have much understanding as to why the US was in Afghanistan to begin with. I'm not saying there isn't an element of greed here too, and I certainly have sympathy/empathy for the Afghani people, but to boil vastly complex geopolitical issues down to simplistic sloganeering isn't very helpful to understanding the issues at hand.

No idea what the real US objective is here.

I am 100% certain that this pull out is actually by design though.

Just struggling to come up with the reason.

Tensions between US/UK and China have been simmering for a while.

Afghanistan was actually a gate way to China.

Could it have something to do with Iran ?

Is there potential for limited Nuclear exchanges when it eventually goes off between Iran/US/Israel; ?

Struggling to think of any other reasons. Other than maybe the Chinese has dirt on the Bidens. Particularly Hunter.

Crazy World at the moment. Honestly if Aliens landed i wouldn't be shocked.
Re: Hunter Biden and China.

no, that’s the GOP stripping any references to Trump instigating the pullout originally and then thrashing around for something to blame and deflect on Biden.

you could say the same about trump , Russia and Syria (and almost anything that trump did to undermine US interests)

the US messed up its withdrawal at the end, undoubtedly, and it occurred on Biden watch. But it was trump that did the pull out, it was bush that started war on terror and it was Reagan that armed the mujaheden (bin laden/Taliban etc).

blaming Biden or even Obama for Afghanistan is a complete load of bollox

The post by Kinky's Crazy contained the deathless phrase:
"One mans terrorist is another man's freedom fighter".
I don't know who originally coined it, but it is the stupidest comment on this type of affair ever given breath.
