If we don’t sign a striker, I certainly owe a couple of people here an apology, since they made that bet months ago when I said it would happen 100% because the club would have to be stupid not to sign one. I still think that’s the case.

Not really. By the time Dortmund signed Lewandowski he'd scored 9 goals for Poland and 32 goals in 58 games for Poznan (Including 6 goals in 16 EUFA cup appearances). Dortmund signed him for 4.5m Euros.

Suarez had scored 10 goals in 27 appearances at Nacional, then scored 10 goals in 28 appearances at Groningen before Ajax bought him for 7.5m Euros.

My first argument against is that 4.5m and 7.5m Euros are nothing like the £60m+ that would be required to by this lad (even accounting for 'football inflation' - which is a crap metric). If we were gonna sign this lad for £20m I'd feel a bit better about it, but £60m get's you a Bernardo Silva in this market.

My second point is that we are in no way similar to Dortmund or Ajax. We are the best club in the world. We don't need to take risks on young players. We have the financial capability to buy established players who can guarantee goals. If we follow a Dortmund or Ajax type transfer policy, we stay at the top.
 
Didn't I read that a deal was already in place with him as a fall back option in case the Kane deal fell through?

I like you Gus, dont always agree with what you say, but i do like you. Keep on posting pal and you'll learn to develop a proper tin hat and stiff upper lip :-))
 
I'd much rather give Delap a shot than sign a 21 year old that isn't Haaland.

Ronaldo on a 2 year contract makes much more sense as a stop gap and gives us enough time to see if Delap is the real deal.

Feel like we will be pissing away £70m if we go for this guy, as good as he potentially is / will be.

Not a bad shout this, plus Delap would surely learn a bunch from Doo Doo Ron Ron ??
 
me too, I dont buy the hype around Vlahovic, total gamble imo. same as Luka Jovic who was great in Frankfurt then signed for Real, never got a chance, went back on loan to Germany, never performed any well now back at Real on bench again...
dont think Pep wants a young striker to build up, he wanted the finished article with Kane. we have Torres and Delap to build up if thats is needed.

big gamble and Italian owners we know how they are, they would drag us along for 60 days if window didnt finish in 6 days.

I think any decent striker can do well at City with the creative force behind them, but I prefer one who can make the difference in very tight CL games.Vlahovic never played a CL game, Lewa and CR played a lot of them and scored a lot of great goals in them.

It really all depends...everyone was saying we were pissing away 60+ mil last year on Dias...
