IMO we're just not that good in the transfer market. We can pick up a prospect sure, but when it comes to getting big players over the line without a release clause, its 3 months of fannying about before not getting it done and then asking the manager to pull a rabbit. Kane, Messi, Maguire, Van Dijk, Koulibaly, Jorginho. Last of A targets missed since 2017 is getting silly. Even if some of our backups have been great its still poor from a negotiating POV and something that doesn't happen to Chelsea, PSG, Bayern or even United anywhere near as often. In the grander scheme of things, we could win the league anyway and then nobody cares but these days the safe bet is city missing their main target every summer.
But add up the cost of the players you mentioned, the club is wealthy, but that doesn’t mean they will operate like an X Box gamer

A waste of a Pep season. I just watched him speak live at an event here in Brazil. He literally said seven years is a lot, he’s thinking of a break at the end of his time left and then move on to a national team. There’s no other way of spinning it: if at the end of the window, we haven’t signed a forward, we have failed.

Ting Ting.

Your alarm clock is ringing.

Wakey wakey

Surely there is no way we haven't learned anything from a few years ago when we failed to replace Kompany. If we are serious about competing this season then we desperately need a striker, even if it a stopgap for one year. I see people pointing to how well we did last season, but they're ignoring how poor the other teams were and how much those sides have strengthened. We have too many holes at present (striker, cdm, leftback) and Chelsea have about as strong a squad as there has ever been.
We learned it's better to wait and find the right player than panic buy the wrong one.
We signed Dias a year later and won the title and got to our first CL final.

If we hadn't stuck to our guns we'd have horribly overpaid for Maguire and wouldn't have Dias.

The false 9 system took a lot of the better teams by surprise and the lesser teams didn't have a clue how to deal with it. There were signs towards the end of the season that its effectiveness was waning

It won't work this season

I think he's quoting Pep.

Quotes from Pep about playing Torres centrally and Jesus on the wing at Norwich:

“I had the feeling,” Guardiola said, explaining his decision. “I spoke with Gabriel and he likes to play sometimes more in wider positions than the central one, and Ferran has a big sense for the goal, I would say a little bit higher than Gabriel when he plays in central positions.”

“(Torres’) movements are more towards the goal, Gabriel comes more to associate (link up), to drop a little bit, and Ferran makes movements more to the goal. With our lack of goals lately, we need a guy who can make a movement there.”
Bloody hell. I have said on here before that I really rate Ferran as a developing superstar, or at least someone with terrific potential.

Obviously this may not be the case but there a tiny possibility that I might know something about this beautiful game of ours.

Cue catastrophic career failure but I live in hope.

And if people think one player can't determine the outcome of a season, take a look at what happened in 2012/13. The Rags won the title because we cried off signing RVP and they snatched him up. His goals for Utd absolutely made the difference back then.

Yep but it left them with an ageing squad on big money.

They haven't won a league title since...

And what have they done since , fuck all, buying past it players, at stupid money.

Not really a great example.

I think that's a realistic enough theory. Pep could turn him into an out and out striker. He certainly has an eye for goal.

The Rags won the title because City fucked it. We had Agüero, Tevez, Džeko and Balotelli already, absolutely no need for Van Persie at all. We should have walked the league in 12/13

In my opinion if we sell Bernardo now , this window will be a complete disaster. We are just not good at transfer market and negotiations.
Those who have the opinion "we have a world class team and will win everything this season" that's fine and that's your opinion.
Selling Bernardo now, and not signing a striker, and these clowns in charge of transfers would have managed to spend £100m and made our team worse

Agreed. Waste of Kevin prime years too.
