It's Quiet Thread 15 - Txiki Blinders

Let Messi go twice, pursue an unavailable player all summer on the word of a player so dumb he signed a long term contract with spurs in his prime. Get utterly played by Ronaldo, and ultimately sign nobody and say it was the plan all along

I was sort of ok about missing out on Kane, but these past few days have been a shit show.

Ronaldo was always planned to go to Utd. All this merry go round nonsense was all planned to make City look fools. Complete dick waving contest and we went along with it.

Our aim to replace Kun has been an absolute car crash.

Im sure well be fine however this is a bitter pill to swallow.

I walked away from the board shortly after the press were briefed we'd pulled out ...and within about 30 seconds, I'd traced my footsteps back to me being dragged into that thread yesterday, about an hour before the Mendy news dropped.

See this all the time in PR Crisis / news management. Saw Trump do it more than anyone else, ever. So I'm very familiar with the method. 1. Distract the public. Change the topic. 2. Displace the news reports with something else.

Seriously, that's my bet. The whole thing was like walking into your wife talking to your daughter (who has serious reason to believe you've been having an affair), and revealing... you'd bought a puppy home! OMG! WOW! PUPPY? NO WAY! I thought you hated them and said we could never have one! IS SO CUUUUTE!

All evening the whole family is enraptured by it's presence. It falls asleep with your daughter, in her lap. You carefully lift it from her, and carry her to bed. The puppy is returned to it's original owner the next day for a full refund. You tell your family something along the lines of the damned thing bit the baby when they were all asleep.

Hopefully we come up with a better, more healthy response to the situation sometime in the future - because it implies cynicism, cowardice, inadequacy.
I spent all day yesterday thinking we were lucky to have some good news to outweigh the bad. Your version makes much more sense.

according to sources close to us, we were offered him and we said no so it all depends on the sources that you believe but those sources come from mainstream media close to the club........but the twatteraty were going on that it was a done deal, they were mentioning salary figures, they were mentioning two year deals, that personal terms were agreed etc etc etc......it looks like we didnt even get that far.....

99% of stuff on twitter is KFA's but if you want to keep reading it you go ahead......ill just carry on ignoring it for what it is....shit!

what sources close to us are saying that

all the main locals were saying we were pushing to sign him

so were the reliable broadsheet journalists, and the Athletic

As far as it goes, I'm glad Utd got him. He doesn't offer much more than Cavani, and I doubt he will dovetail particularly with Sancho or the others. I didn't want him at PSG. Them scrabbling about to get a Mbappe replacement should be as painful and expensive as possible, and possibly shake out other opportunities for us.

like i said in an earlier post, top strikers are hard to come across and it was always known this would be difficult. am i annoyed we spent so much time pursuing kane? of course. but it is what it is. not everything is going to work in our favour, just a fact of life.
Maybe but we don't seemed to care when it comes to other positions. We tend to pay the money elsewhere and if it doesn't work move on and look at someone else

would you have expected us to be linked to ronaldo two days ago? and for him to be signed back as a united player today? i think it’s highly doubtful you would’ve guessed that. would rather be optimistic than doom and gloom.
I like your optimism but who is out there that is available? We'll go with what we have. Will we win the league? In my opinion no, but I'd rather that than panic buy and maybe still not win it. I don't think he will but I just hope Delap gets a fair go at it.

I reckon there is a strong possibility (assuming we are still competing for prem and champions league) that we will try and get haaland in January.

Dortmund will likely be miles off Munich and they realistically aren’t gonna win champions league so can see us offering £100 million to try and get the run on other clubs. we must sign him next summer

Surely the second point negates the first.
That will be decided at the end of this season.

We were signing shite strikers hand over fist when we had Sergio and got away with it, we now have nobody. The false 9 worked last year but it won't have the same effect this year imo.

Not a flapper by any means but when you look at other teams business in this window we could be in for a bumpy enough season

They may be hard to come by but Khaldoon himself is on record saying it was a priority

We have missed out on/refused to by way or another on:

Messi - no idea what happened.....is it cause we spunked 100m on Grealish literally days before? or were we blind sided and didnt think he would leave?
Ronaldo - we have turned him down (from what it sounds like)
Kane -it was clear from very early on that Levy held all the cards and wasnt going to even countenance selling Kane
Haaland - put in an offer and if its the right offer then it will be accepted (but we consider it too much)
Mbappe - looks like he could be off to RM....
Ings ( dont know if he even was considered but he would put the ball in the net better than anyone we have at present)
