1970's MCFC

My fondest memories of following home and away were the 70's.

The old Kippax, the kit/scarf colours, transit vans and specials. Dog shit alley, windy corner, stinking bogs, infiltrating the away section and escorts, waiting at Piccadilly or the Brunswick.
All the old characters.

As I get older I find myself thinking about them a lot (blue tinted specs) Big fat football hooligan*, Trumans for steel, Freddie Pye, all the boozers.

Loads of youtube vids of matches I'm watching from then.

* Nowt to be proud of there.

I was going in the 70's and myself and the Lads I use to go with always said they were Pricks and ruined it for every other fan and to this day we still have the cunts festering the game ...

But apart from that, yeah great memories ...

thanks for that.

You do know it referred to "Helen is a big fat football hooligan" yeah?

If you went then you'd know that

I believe that Futcher (I think it's Paul but not 100% sure) is the uncle of that little Scouse apologist Danny Murphy.
tbh, wasn’t sure which Futcher it was, but couldn’t think of any other of those players who had died. Went through them one by one too.

It was a process, however flawed, of elimination.

My thought process was that Ron was only at City for a season or two, but that Paul stayed a while longer.
But it was over 40 years ago,so I may well be wrong.

Even with all the success and amazing football we are able to witness today, there is absolutely nothing like reminiscing and being able to look back on harder times and in particular what we have gone through as custodians and supporters of this great club.

My memories of city especially growing up as a teen through the 70’s is just so so special. Many on here may know me dad Vinny in his blue inva noddy three wheeler car going into the Platt Lane via the sliding door entrance on a match day with me and about another 3 kids or adults hidden under a blanket or coat, whom he had taken to the game in a vehicle only allowed to have the driver in!

In the late 60’s early 70’s he could park the noddy on pitch side and we used to sit in the noddy watching the match, with the ball occasionally hitting the invacar. Me dad took many kids off the streets to the game and they became lifelong blues, imagine him doing that now he’d be nicked for kidnapping! So many memories of me and me dad going to games, he passed in 2002, but he was with me at 93.20 in spirit and we all lived for that moment especially, but our making as blues had been kindled in us years before through those times mentioned here. Check out the photo below that shows the noddys next to the pitch!6467E8D2-DB34-49EA-849A-626AFD1BB957.jpeg

Yes, Transit Vans! Hours on end bouncing and sliding around in the back of a transit. Pissed, pissed wet, freezing, couldn’t hear a thing. Madness what we went through.
I got promoted to a seat later on. More like 80s for me. Happy days.

Fantastic photo (I think thats wyn davies in the background) & fantastic memories, I remember those little blue three wheelers & never thought much of it at the time but I bet it was like having the best view in the ground although I am guessing they didnt have heaters in them for the winter?

Can’t stand these hooligans like man city v Stoke that’s what turned me to watching synchronised swimming for years
Me too.
I also like the aggression at darts matches.
Throwing sharp pointy bits of steel at a piece of wood really satisfies my deepest Neanderthal urges.
One huundredd and eightyyy !!!!

That was my 2nd ever game aged 7, sat it he North Stand with my best mate from school and our dads.

Never forget League cup semi in 76 the atmosphere on the Kippax was the best I can ever remember. One down from the first , two up at half time, just got back in with a couple of pints after half time when we scored again, beer went everywhere whole place going f**king mental. Whatever we achieve now don't think we'll ever top the feeling of that four nil win over Boro. Mind you then I was young and crazy now I am old and dull, think my generation had the best of it.

Highlight of the week robbing service station goodies, only time I got fed growing up:)

Keeping my gob shut ….

Clothes anyone? Tills? Trainers? Serving ourselves in boozers when landlords ran off ? Mass robbing shopping centres? Jewellery shops?

Disgusting behaviour ….. ruined it for honest fans like me who were loaded and paid for everything including train fares!

No CCTV back then allowed these scum to do as they pleased
