Another urban myth I'm afraid.

The media outlets have lost all perspective when it comes to the rags. The reality is they (the media) will do just fine financially without having to resort to blowing smoke up the rags arse.

They've been at it for so long they don't even question it anymore. They just assume that their profits are interlinked and entwined with the rags.

We've seen similar superstitious thinking with the FA and the premier league. They too are convinced that a "strong" rags team is essential for a successful product.

The reality is most people couldn't give a flying fuck about the rags succeeding, they've had their time in the sun.

Personally I think the rags and Arsenal fighting it out between them for a top ten finish would be far more news worthy than this artificial bullshit we get drip fed by the media about how wonderful they are.
Fighting for 17th & 18th next season sounds more news worthy, hell Ild even take an interest

I am enjoying the fact that a) they have to play Ronaldo and b) they have to win something. Otherwise, our media will have to do some serious back-pedalling.
If the they end the season mid-table and have been eliminated from every cup competition at the first hurdle, the media in this country still would not dare to criticise them.

Woe betide any journalist or tv reporter who displeases the despotic Pisscan during his second reign.
