TODAY'S UPDATE

LESS GOOD NEWS TODAY

Predicted cases ARE UP for first day in a week. Only slightly

Today FROM 46, 607 TO 46, 613 TODAY - A rise of just 6 - but it was falling by increasing numbers daily all week.

It WAS 52, 049 last Monday.

Ongoing symptomatic cases did still FALL for eighth day running.

But by a smaller number

FROM 706, 485 TO 700, 377 TODAY - A fall of 6108 following falls of 9353, 7567, 6297 and 1720 in previous days.

IT WAS 738, 359 last Monday.

You would expect a lag to the change in ongoing cases after a rise or fall in daily case numbers.

TODAYS DATA

REGIONS:-

North West RISES for the first time in a while.

FROM 690 / 907 TO 729 / 952 - higher than any of the past 4 days

NW STILL FIFTH of the 12 regions.

Behind Scotland (still TOP) and Wales (second) - with Scotland out of the HIGHEST WATCH ZONE

North East third DOWN on 685 / 1072 FROM 693 / 1084.

Yorkshire and Humber are in fourth.

East Midlands has fallen into the lowest watch zone.

DOWN 613 / 851 FROM TO 642 /883.

South West (which has been plummeting day by day in the real cases all week - as the regional data each evening on here shows- is now the LOWEST region ahead of London

DOWN on 473 / 625 FROM 481 / 633

SOUTH WEST HAS BY FAR FALLEN THE MOST IN THE REAL CASES TOO

West Midlands though is UP on 525 / 750 FROM 510 / 730, South East (DOWN to 544 / 643 FROM 552 / 671) and East (UP to 523 / 684 FROM 514 / 673).

Scotland TOP is DOWN again on 817 / 1090 FROM 849 / 1124

WALES in second is DOWN on 752 / 1069 FROM 777 / 1098

Yorkshire third ahead of North West is UP on 731 / 992 FROM 716 / 973

N Ireland is no longer LOWEST watch zone or best in UK. South West's huge recent falls - in real life as well as Zoe - has put it as the best in the UK now

N Ireland today is UP on 256 / 952 FROM 208 / 852

There are only 3 boroughs in the UK now in either the 1K or 2 K club and NOBODY below 1000. This time last year some rural areas in places like Devon were sub 100 let alone 1000.

Now only the Orkney Islands and the Shetlands are below 3000.

In terms of big cities

Belfast 12, 128, Birmingham 13, 303, Bristol 12, 338. Cardiff 9622, Coventry 10, 470, Derby 11, 838, Glasgow 13, 016 , Hull 13, 485, Leeds 13, 534, Liverpool 14, 861, Manchester 15, 458, Newcastle 13, 873, Nottingham 14, 033, Oxford 10, 677, Preston 14, 841, Salford 15, 158, Sheffield, 12, 097, Stoke 12, 313, Sunderland 14, 097, Swansea 10, 458, York 9950

As you can see the twin cities of Manchester and Salford are the two highest in the UK.

The North West throughout the pandemic has been the epicentre.
~
Though also worth bearing in mind that Manchester and Salford have the two LOWEST vaccination rates in the 10 GM boroughs.
Often the case with things like this being the two most deprived districts.

I think I read, though am far from certain, that some of this is due to large student populations, and vaccines being administered away from these places, but populations recorded being within them, on top of the fact that vaccination rates are generally lower in younger demographics.

Could be wrong.

Chorley is UP again too on 17, 288 FROM 13, 554

As in the Lake District on 17, 936

Cheshire East - is still low but has gone UP again but tracking well under Stockport on 9575 FROM 9471.

Could be wrong.
They redistributed the student numbers this time last year after complaints they were not being correctly allocated - creating chaos in the numbers for a few weeks if you recall.

Manchester and Salford ended up with huge Pop Rises of over 1000 because of it.

Got the attached on our golf WhatsApp group last night, very sad.

ENGLAND HOSPITAL DEATHS NORTH WEST TRUSTS

Something odd was happening with that high NW number on Saturday as 15 of the 28 were in Liverpool,

That is an awful lot for one day.

Over the weekend 17 of the 38 NW deaths were in Liverpool (and 1 more in Alder Hey in the city)

Others:- Lancashire 5, St Helens 4, Manchester 3, Pennine Acute 3, Southport 2 & 1 each in Bolton, Morecambe & Tameside

new figures from the Office for National Statistics which showed Covid deaths among people who have been fully vaccinated are rare.

Out of more than 51,000 Covid deaths in England between January and July 2021, only 256 occurred after two doses - and these were mostly people at very high risk of illness from the virus.

Julie Stanborough, from the ONS, says: "Our new analysis shows that, sadly, there have been deaths of people involving Covid-19 despite them being fully vaccinated.

"However, we've also found that the risk of a death involving Covid-19 is much lower among people who are fully vaccinated than those who are unvaccinated."

SCOTLAND DATA

NB:- DATA ISSUES MEAN THIS NUMBER IS LOW AND THE MISSING DATA WILL BE ADDED TOMORROW THE REPORT SAYS

0 deaths - was 0 last week - always 0 on Mondays

4241 cases - was 7065 last week

11.3% positivity - was 14.5% last week - THIS DATA ALL IMPACED BY MISSING CASES

1048 patients - up 29 on yesterday - was 771 last week

90 ventilated icu - up 2 on yesterday - was 71 last week.

Yes, that was for case numbers.

I think the same may not apply to vaccinations.

Like I say, could be wrong.

NORTHERN IRELAND DATA

AT LEAST ZOE IS SPOT ON ABOUT HOW WELL NORTHERN IRELAND IS STILL DOING

EASILY THE BEST IN THE UK

8 deaths - was 9 last week

5.6% positivity - was 7.4% last week

120 CARE HOME OUTBREAKS - UP 1 SINCE FRIDAY - WAS 134 LAST WEEK

Rolling 7 day cases 10, 180 - Was 10, 475 Friday & 10, 024 last week

401 patients - was 461 Friday & 407 last week

32 ventilated - was 35 Friday & 36 last week

you must be gutted we now only have the 9th highest death rate in Europe and falling

This is a pretty bizarre comment.

On the facts, our death rate is currently above any comparable country in Europe, and about double the EU average.

Depending how you've counted European countries, the 8 above us are mainly the low vax rates of the likes of Romania and Bulgaria, or small population places like Bosnia. Here's recent death rates for a x section of European countries.

1631539352243.png

Why you think any of this is relevant to how well we're currently responding is mysterious. Are you suggesting Romania, Bulgaria and Bosnia is where we should set our bar for comparisons?

NORTHERN IRELAND SEVEN DAY CASES TOTAL BY AGE:

45.5% of the cases are 19 and Under. This just keeps going up.

This is now DOUBLE the 23.2% of the next biggest group (20 - 39)

Though 13.1% are over 60 - a number that happily has not been going up lately.

Just 2.6% of these are the most vulnerable over 80 - helped by the falls in Care Home outbreaks.

So with the caveats applied above:

The deaths with out of hospital England to add today are:- 45

Last week at this stage they were 39 - that became 45 on all settings later.

MONDAY IS ALWAYS LOW DUE TO LACK OF SUNDAY REGISTRATIONS
