The Conservative Party

This is scandalous.
A woman could not get a face to face with her GP over her kid’s Crohn’s disease so she went private.
Who saw her at the local private hospital?
Her GP!

I don't think that many people understand what their GP is, they think that a GP is a government provided doctor sitting in a building funded by the NHS but this isn't true. GP's do not work for the NHS, they work for themselves or the private company that is contracted to deliver the GP service.

GP's are therefore actually no different to dentists. They are fundamentally a private enterprise with one contract to deliver GP services for the NHS. My GP is only in the surgery twice a week, I wonder why that is? As in this example, providing they are meeting their NHS contract, there's nothing to stop them providing private services elsewhere.

If we are to fundamentally improve services then they need to be nationalised again, brought under the NHS umbrella and GP's should work 5 days a week being a GP. However, the problem is how many will give up large six figure salaries to slog it 5-6 days per week on lower pay in the NHS grade system..?

So true. They get these 6 figure salaries by providing services to the same NHS that employs them. When I had my hip done my consultant said you can wait 9 months to have it done locally or you can get it done privately funded by the NHS in a couple of weeks and they would transport me there and back, in a taxi. No brainer really as I could hardly walk. The surgeon at the private hospital?? No prizes for guessing. This is where your NHS money is going.

I suppose I should have gritted my teeth and insisted on staying local. Difficult to do when you can hardly walk.

The thing is you shouldn't be put in that position, the couple of weeks wait option should be available to everyone if that appointment is available. This is really the US healthcare system except it's an even stupider version where we pay tax for a service and then later go on to buy the exact same service for more because the original one was crap.

In this situation it can be easy to blame the doctors for money grabbing but that's the system they're in and I think anyone would do the same. For example will dentists come to work as public dentists for the NHS which means less salaries and less opportunities to make money from selling floss and all that rubbish? It'd be like Grealish turning down city to play for Accrington.

Is it not amazing that the NHS doesn't have the money pot to afford yearly inflation matching payrises but private healthcare companies are able to feed from that exact same pot to make millions in profit every year?

The system is basically broken and I have no idea how we can fix it. This is probably why people just demand more and more money for it, because that's the only easy solution.

I just get sick of hearing how overworked GPs are when the two in my family do three days a week NHS work, then double their pay doing work privately, doing work for credit card companies, insurance companies, setting up several of their own businesses approving HGV drivers, etc..
When I was employed I was too bloody tired to go moonlighting.

I’d of done the same
but if something goes seriously wrong you end up in the NHS
where they are so short of doctors and nurses you may have a junior doctor doing the op.

That’s the risk you take pain makes us all pay and go private.
Hope your okay now
I learnt this early after getting my front teeth knocked out in a football match. At an early age I was left with the option of no front teeth or a pallet, or a bridge that would be done privately as long as i sign up to a £20 a month service. I couldn’t afford the 2 grand charge but luckily, as I earned a decent wage, £20 a month 25 years ago was easily affordable.

This is not new, it’s just that the government’s over time have not been able to push this through whole hog. And that’s where Johnson and his cronies comes in.

lamest and most incompetent cabinet in living memory - as well as Johnson not understanding his brief as PM you have Raab not understanding what is expected of a FS - Patel who is just evil - Shapps who just thinks drivers driving longer hours based on less training is the answer - Coffey who has no idea how UC works despite that being her brief - Dorries who is next to useless - I could go on but its a shit show

And the problem is that even a reshuffle wont help because the mp's waiting in the wings are as inept and / or as crooked and nasty as the current bunch.

Like they say ..... you cant polish a turd only sprinkle glitter on it.

Christ. I thought we had problems over here with the shower we have in Dáil Éireann, but I just happened upon Prime Minister’s question time and Wow. It’s genuinely like a pantomime. They were only just about short of shouting ‘oh no, he won’t/ oh yes he will’.
It really is getting like tribal chants at a football match. What the hell are you becoming?
