Crystal Palace (H) - Post-Match Thread

Pep and Tixi Messi obsession is to blame for us having no current striker.

We spent over 2 Seasons chasing him, only for him to end up at PSG in the end.

At least now we have to move on from him.
you silly sod
messi was long gone

it was fucking kane abd there obsession with him that has fukd us up this season

Laporte didn't slip. He tried one of his leg breaker cute passes that barely reach his team mate.

But it didn't reach today, like he's gotten away with many times before.

I'm glad he got sent off as Stones is way the better player even when he makes the odd gaffe!

In general, he's just more intelligent, defensively.
Your glad laporte got sent off ffs we can do without "supporters" like you, get to fuck

It wasn't a lack of effort, it was a lack of quality and too many having an off day at the same time

Grealish offers nothing
Cancelo was terrible
KDB was also awful
Laporte had another brain fart. Is that three times this season now he's been caught on the wrong side?

When teams set up like Palace what we need is overlapping clever full backs. Create the overload and the full back is free with the ball to pick out a man in the box. Zabba was brilliant at this
If we hit the ball to Grealish, he has no left foot so defenders show him down the line and because Cancelo is right footed he won't (or very rarely) overlaps

We also lack a keeper who can make a decent save
Actually we have one and he's second choice
Who exactly does the overlapping full back hit in the middle?

One of those days that happen when we don't play with a centre forward. The sending off cost us. I think we would have overcome them with 11.

i just think our best 11 is very good but the squad and little rotation is creeping in and our legs look very heavy
today down to 10 men for 45 minutes will make them feel ever worst tonight.

i just feel pep could use 2 or 3 more youth players in the home games to freshen up the team and give us more legs
cole palmer would and should be playing in the home games like today and rest KDB even the young left back Wilson-Esbrand looked great in the league cup game and where is liam delap for some minutes
I get what you mean, we need something different, more energy, against teams good enough to low block for a whole match and as pep always says the same players can’t play week in week out. For that reason I think - hope - the loss to West Ham will prove to be a blessing. Let’s see what next Saturday brings.

Pep doesn't seem that arsed about the result in his post match interview. Everything must be fine and dandy down at the training complex.

Our last three home results against teams we should beat out of sight have been underwhelming , and yet when we have played teams who are near our level we have dominated them , which leads me to believe we are becoming complacent against the lesser team. Palace,Burnley and Saints at home was nine points last season and a hatful of goals , this season three points and just two goals.
Its not helped that two of our stalwarts in Raheem & KDB are totally out of form , these two are the type of players that punish teams , ive no doubt we will raise our game against Bruges & the Rags , i am more worried about Everton at home the week after.

The Foden / Grealish dynamic is a concern for me.

Foden had the left wing position completely tied down last season, played brilliantly all season, was a real attacking threat and won a number of games on his own.

We then sign Grealish with money that could have been used on a proper striker, and so far we’ve hobbled him by asking to stick out wide and play a very distinct, disciplined role. This has meant Foden playing in the middle, where I think he’s a bit more inconsistent.

Early days but it doesn’t look quite right to me.
We are just not balanced upfront, or in defence!

Poor game today, it happens every now and then. Looking forward to see how it all pans out. Pretty sure we'll be in with a shout of winning the league again.

He's terrified of taking an actual shot or trying to knick it past a defender. The amount of times he will square up and then just settle for a smash into the defender's shins for a corner is appalling.
He also seems far too eager to go to ground to try and win free kicks than trying to go past a defender. Draws opposition players to him which on occasions is helpful as he can then release team mates into areas where they have space to exploit but too often slows the play down with too many touches allowing defences to regroup and get organised. Needs to vary his play more, take more risks and start affecting games where it matters.

Then we were toothless upfront against Chelsea in the CL final and toothless against Leicester in the CS. It was plane for all to see we needed a focal point in our attack. I like Grealish but to put another midfielder before a centre forward was not a wise move in my book. I could be proved wrong but I doubt it.
A cdm is what messed us up on the final. Midfield was way too open. Nothing to do with a lack of striker

Not good enough that.

We can’t just rely on Rodri and Bernardo to play well and win the game for us every week… Cancelo Laporte deBruyne Grealish Foden were simply nowhere near good enough, and the same ones who played against Burnley were all just as bad that day (Grealish didn’t play that one but has also been average as it gets in other games).

These midtable teams are far too good now to play so poorly and expect to win. We got away with it with Burnley but we were just as poor against them as we were Southampton and today.
